Better to have them all, then just log out in an area to charge up a dayjob accolade of your choosing.

No, my angle is pertinent to my distaste with the badge, and not something you can argue around. I HATE that, in order to make progress on a badge, you have to NOT be logged in. No other badge rewards you for being logged out of a toon like that. It's a design breaker. Even the "farmable" badges have a natural path in the progression of the game to achieve them.

Whether I stay logged out for 21 days to get it before you do, or if I take six months lolly gagging around saying it doesn't matter, the fact that you get rewarded for being logged out is dumber than a sack of hammers.

So yeah, I agree with the OP.

I dont really like the day job badges. Bad idea to make badges for not playing your favorite characters however because of it i probably have 15 more 50s then i would have so i guess i see what they were doin.

I wont miss "needing" to log out in a certain spot. And i wont be pissed when i log back in to realize i just was in the wrong spot and i missed 5 days. That was frustating.

please NO MORE day jobs in future issues!!!!!
Congratulations!

I finished all of my DJ badges last week, and your OP hit the nail right on the head!

I'll agree with this. I hope that they never make another day job because of it.

I was pretty suprised praetoria didnt offer any new day jobs, maybe the devs actually got the hint that the day jobs were a terrible idea?

I was relieved that Praetoria didn't offer new Day Jobs. However as I look at all the dayjobs and the locations they correspond to, I'm not sure there are any spots left for new dayjobs. The only places I can think of would be the Storm Palace and the Chantry but we already have a DJ for the shard so that would be kind of redundant.

Monster Island? The Hive? The Abyss? Doesn't seem like they would be suitable for a DJ either.

So unless some new zones are added I can't see any new Day Jobs being brought in.

Looking forward to logging my now former redside badge hunter and watching the 6th and final Blueside only DJ ding. Then that alt can truly be said to have every dayjob, a beautiful feeling knowing that now I can log him out at a location of my choice to charge up certain day job accolades that I like to have charged up for him. He would have had the last DJ sooner but he had to walk the path of the Incarnate first.

Did get all the day jobs on my main badger a couple of days ago. Thank goodness. Now I can actually play my character. No longer do I have to be obsessed with where I park her etc.

I hope there will be NO more day job badges.

since i have a lot of alts i basically just left my main to sit in the same dayjob spot until he got the badge, it was also fairly convenient that a large amount of the remaining badges he could get was day jobs anyway so not exactly too much i could have done with him at that point

once i am done the day jobs however, i will be moving my main back to redside permanently unless there are more hero only badges out there (and i still need the badges from the new redside arc anyway)

Yeah I made sure that my two badge hunters only need to work the dayjobs except for any new badges that were added over time. As they are both frankenslotted I think I'll keep them on the fence as it were as vigilante or else make them both blueside.

I just don't get why people focus their day jobs hate on the fact that you need to be logged out to get them. You must log out eventually! All you need to do is stand somewhere and you get an extra badge for the time when you can't play anyway. I don't think that day jobs are the most amazing addition to the game ever, but I do enjoy a few of the powers they provide, and I've been happy to get a few extra badges. If you're refusing to log in because you might be a couple weeks late on your year-long quest to get them all, you're doing it wrong.

Sorry, I can understand not liking them, I can understand thinking they're a poorly designed mistake, but that specific line of reasoning just baffles me.

The hate stems through the "Get it now" mentality that many of us got (atleast it does for me). After all I've made certain that a lot of day job badges have been gained through 21 days of being logged off that char.
In other words, 21 days non stop of not playing the char that you love X amount of day job badges.

It sometimes is a hassle moving a character to the "right" location (I'm looking at you Crey Building) and the last thing I feel like doing is going to the pit of Nerva if I just finished a Shard TF for instance.

The whole idea of being rewarded for NOT playing bugs the heck out of me. It gives the people that say "you just wanted to be handed badges" ammo.

The fact remains that the ONLY thing you can do to speed up progression on the day job badges is by NOT PLAYING YOUR CHARACTER. It doesn't matter if you have to log off (and that actually works against some badges like healing/damage). A lot of players like their badge collecting characters, but the players are goal oriented. This means the goal conflicts with their desire to play a character they love. That is a bad idea.

I still don't get it. It's not like totally avoiding playing your character speeds it up more than a tiny bit in the long term. I want my badges too, and I like playing my characters. And it doesn't piss me off. Like I said, from my point of view, I'm going to be not playing my characters at some points anyway, so it's not that I'm getting rewarded for not playing, but I'm getting a little reward for going to a certain spot when I need to stop playing.

I can agree with it being annoying trying to remember where to log out, and going to that place... I decided that if I was going to work on Day Jobs on some characters, I might as well work on it on all of them... and I have over 100. All but the recently made ones and a handful of others have all the day job badges for their level and alignment, and it was a relief to not have to worry about where I logged out again (although it's started up somewhat again with some of my characters switching sides...) Getting there involved a lot of running around high level zones on level 5 characters.

I dunno. I can see the reasoning for most of the hate, even agree with some of it, but it just doesn't make me angry. And I guess I just don't have the same attitude in regards to the 'being rewarded for being logged off' situation. The fact that I have a crazy number of alts and most of them spend lots of time logged off probably helps!

Anyway. After working through that, there's something I realize that I should have said a while ago to the OP:

Congrats!

My issue with the DJ's isn't the concept of the DJ's.....it's the 21 days needed to get it. Seems a bit lengthy to me. 14 days would be more palatable, imo.

10 days to charge up a Day Job accolade...no big deal.

It is more than a "tiny bit" though. If a character is "working" on their healing or damage taken badges, that "tiny bit" could be over a month without playing. Is having to spend 200+ hours trying to get a damage badge going to be conflicting with a day job badge? Definitely.

After 2-5 day jobs acquired, there sets in a "This is a stupid way to get a badge, how much longer?" attitude. At which point players that want to play their character has to make the choice of "get the day jobs out of the way as fast as possible" or "I might cancel my subscription before I collect all the day jobs". That was exactly what I was feeling. Yes, it bugged me that much.

I have a handful of characters I love to play. My badge collector is at the top of the list. I've been put into the situation for the last two years of choosing to either play my favourite character or potentially fail to get all the day job badges.

This is a choice I never should have been faced with. I totally blame the developers for this mechanic, and it is one of the things that has lessened my love of this game.

I think the day jobs are perfectly fine as they are, the problems with them lie entirely within perception of people that think they have to have badges and not earn badges.

They're optional badges that really have no effect on the game itself. If you feel you have to get these badges, that's your problem and not the developer's.

Sewers / Abandoned Sewers? Terra Volta?

Thought it would be funny to have a Plumber (Sewers and/or Sewer entrance) and an Electrician (Terra Volta or the TPS in Cap) day jobs, with an Accolade named Union Man.

But yes, DJ badges are tedious. I left the game right before day jobs came out, and came back right before Going Rogue. As a result, I've been slowly working through the DJ badges...

I find your lack of signature disturbing.

They can actually have an affect on the game, but it is a good effect. They do give bonuses to prestige, experience, etc. These are good effects, IMO.

The argument is about their design and implementation, which is contrary to how all other badges are designed.

While you may have no desire to collect badges, please do not discount that there is a community within CoH who are avid badge hunters, who will analyze any badges that come out. It's not a problem; it's a different point of view.

I hate to do the day job badges primarily because it interferes with where you log. Sometimes I might jist log due to being afk or in a hurry and if you log in rarely that can be multiple days of credit that you lose. There's also the travel involved to get to increasingly obscure locations after you get the low hanging fruit.

A game is not supposed to be some kind of... place where people enjoy themselves!

To put this into perspective..
- I actually play my main badge toons regardless if I'm waiting on a dayjob badge or not. I just make sure to log off in the correct locations.
- I had all the day jobs before side switching started (as did many other people, so that creates an even playing field for this comparison).
- Some people have finished the 6 "new" dayjobs already, but my main character still has 325 hours to go (13½ days).

13 days is a long time to be behind, and that's if I don't actually play that character for the next two weeks. That is unlikely. Even if I play that toon for only 2 hours a day, that will set him back another full day or so... but I usually run TFs and Raids that will probably put him online much longer than that.

I'm not saying I'm upset about it taking longer or anything. I'm simply adding data to the argument.

I'm a few days away from finishing my hero. I really wish it would just hurry up already, since I want to go back to Blueside and then take her to Vigilante where she belongs. There are more badges I don't have yet and can't EARN until the stupid day job is done. I want to badge with her. Instead, she's sitting around waiting on a day job.
