Day Jobs Over.
I sometimes manage my salvage/recipes/builds/alphas/jobs/badges via a spreadsheet. It would be awesome if the Devs had an export feature for the game that would give you all kinds of useful information about your characters, to include things like badges and day jobs, but other things too like prestige, inf, sg, server, enhancement inventory, builds, etc.
|
It will keep track of your Character's information (Global name, server, badges, xp, inf, biography, level, origin, archetype, alignment, primary/secondary/epic powersets) on their website. It also has a DayJob calculator and an option to Export your build to Mid's Hero Designer as well. Somebody has mentioned inventory management (enhancements, salvage, recipes) being a possibility for future release as well.. maybe.
I have all the day job badges on lots of alts and am 1 or 2 away on many more (locked out due to level constraints.)
I can see how they'd be annoying if you don't play many alts, but for me, I luvs 'em! I esp like the accolade temp powers like Frag Gendade, Tear Gas, Sleep Gas, Heal, Rez, Rune of Purification, Beguile, etc.
My main collected all his Day Jobs ages ago and still makes sure to log off in appropriate areas to recharge temps!

I don't know about anybody else, but I wouldn't really call that "ages ago".
Unless of course you don't have GR, then all I can say is "Gratz!" on getting all the ones available to you.

My two mains just wrapped the 6 alignment specific Day Jobs now. Feels good to literally have them all.
My badge villain just got his last one on Saturday, and my hero should have his last one about two hours before I get up for work tomorrow morning.
Main Hero: Chad Gulzow-Man (Victory) 50, 1396 Badges
Main Villain: Evil Gulzow-Man (Victory) 50, 1193 Badges
Mission Architect arcs: Doctor Brainstorm's An Experiment Gone Awry, Arc ID 2093

As of today, I have now finished ALL Day Jobs.

Triumph: White Succubus: 50 Ill/Emp/PF Snow Globe: 50 Ice/FF/Ice Strobe: 50 PB Shi Otomi: 50 Ninja/Ninjistu/GW Stalker My other characters
I can't help but point out that based on when GR was released, the absolute earliest that anybody could have completed them all would have been about 2½ weeks ago.

Yeah, haven't bothered to do that yet as my main badger is pure hero and won't be switching, ever. Either way, still love Day Jobs and the temps that come with 'em

As of today new years eve. I am finnaly done the day jobs on blue and now red side. It stunk and was not fun. But i can now play my badger more So thats good.
I dont really like the day job badges. Bad idea to make badges for not playing your favorite characters however because of it i probably have 15 more 50s then i would have so i guess i see what they were doin. I wont miss "needing" to log out in a certain spot. And i wont be pissed when i log back in to realize i just was in the wrong spot and i missed 5 days. That was frustating. please NO MORE day jobs in future issues!!!!! |
@Turbo_Starr
Totally forgot about this thread.
Not going to directly quote, because it'd be too long and I'm lazy...
"The problem with that reasoning is that being offline is not an activity."(pg3)
I still think that it's fine, but again, I see what you mean. And I agree that I'd like different content rather than a retooling of the way day jobs work/more of them as well, but I wouldn't be terribly upset if the opposite happened.
"No, I meant exactly what I said"(pg3)
That's my mistake, and I apologize for the misunderstanding. I also apologize for my use of the word 'entirely' instead of 'mostly' before... I know that not everyone has the 'gimme now' personality regarding badges, and it does suck that others suffer due to that.
I think it was brought up but can't find the post, I also agree that the mechanic of 'day jobs' and earning Patrol XP at the same time doesn't seem to make much sense. Are you working or are you patrolling?
"14 days to get a day job would allow a new player to get 1 accolade during their initial 30 day play period.
By limiting the credit to 16 hours / day I wouldn't feel that there is a choice between playing and getting day job credit."
The first part of this makes me think that *some* day jobs could probably be decreased in requirements for that reason, it is a good point. I wouldn't want all of them to be, however. I disagree with the second half though, because I don't feel that there should be a choice between playing and getting day job credit either - but for a different reason. Badges are not the most important content in the game for me, and I don't feel that it should be for others either... but that's selfish of me to say that, and I recognize that. I'm just saying that badges should be treated more as an 'addition' to the game and not the end goal. I'm not saying that's what you're talking about either, it just feels that a lot of people... I'm going to stop there, because I can't put it into words and I have to run. I'll try to come back and word it properly with an edit.
Edit: Apparently the drill goes like this: She asks if I'm ready to go, then waits until I am, and THEN she starts to get ready herself. Frickin' hell.
Anyway, I also wanted to say that I'd be open to modifications to the Day Job system. For instance, something akin to the Police Radio/Newspaper missions, but accessible via a bulletin or job board at the particular site. Do a mission, get 20 minutes credit towards the badge, that sort of thing.

If the Devs were ever going to tinker around with this they would have done it like 18 months ago.
Doing anything about it now would be a waste of Dev effort.

I believe that a character should be online to earn the rewards. While I'm playing Character A, I don't think Characters B, C, D, E, F, G, or H should be getting a benefit. If I want Character B to earn something, I'd switch toons. I don't necessarily care if it might make the badges harder to get on multiple toons at once. That's not the point. |
If you have multiple toons you want to earn DJs on, it might be a little complicated. (I have mine on a table to keep track of who's earned what and when to move little-played toons).
If you think it's tedious, that's your perogative but frankly it's a LOT less time-consuming that earning Invention badges and less boring (to me anyway) than Irradiated / Siren's Song, etc. As others have pointed out, you have to log out at some point. Earning badges for next-to-no-effort? Thanks, devs!

Biggest Troll on the forums? I'll give you a hint:
I finished mine yesterday as well, finally. And finally transferred back to hero side to do Cooling's arc in Ouro and get those 2 badges, bringing me up to 1172. Time for some damage farming and Mo's...
I find your lack of signature disturbing.
I sorta like the idea of more day job locations added over time. I keep a spreadsheet so it's not too hard to figure out if I earned them or not.
What I don't like is that you can't ALSO be rewarded for online time in those locations. Sure, it would most likely be miniscule, but at least it would be nice to be in the hospital and get a few minutes of credit a month.
Also, I think the game has no method of assisting for Day Job accolade bonuses. It would be nice if the game would assist you with which Day Job accolades you could be earning, or something like that. Or an easier way to view your Day Job and Accolade power progress, preferably offline.
