I've played this game since 2005 and always thought it was spelled "Quarterfield." I just looked on paragonwiki to double check, and sure enough...Quaterfield. How do you even pronounce that?
-
You two are going to make me cry! I'm so happy this game brought us all together; we have some amazing friends. I was fortunate enough to end up going to Florida in January of last year, and got to meet up with Hellcat and SecretLover, the only two CoH friends I ever got to meet. I think I have a pretty adorable picture somewhere (with Mark sticking his tongue out, of course).
Love you guys! No matter what happens to City of Heroes, we'll still all be best friends -
I'm not incredibly active on the forums, and most of you have probably never even heard of me, but I've been playing on Liberty since the end of 2005. I was only 12 when I started playing CoH, so I can really say that I've grown up with this game. I've actually surprised myself at how emotional I'm feeling about today's news; it feels like a part of my childhood is disappearing, and in a way, it sort of is.
As much fun as I've had with the game's content, nothing compares to the community here. Just a warning: this is about to get personal. As I said, I spent pretty much all of my teen years on CoH. Up until this past year, when I got to college, I had been very shy and awkward. But in CoH, probably because of the anonymity behind the screen, I'd found that I had been much more able to socialize and communicate and make wonderful friends. In short, the in-game community was an incredible support system for getting through those tough teen years. You could say that I almost leaned on this game as too much of a support system and maybe spent a little too much time around here, but it helped me out so much mentally. I actually came out of the closet to my in-game friends before quite a few of my real life friends, which may seem...strange, but having the opportunity to use this sort of auxiliary community to become more comfortable with myself was a massive benefit.
Anyway, I really just want to thank everyone for putting together this community because that's what this game really had going for itself; the people. I really can't put into words the way I feel this game and the whole community effected my life. 7 years is about half of my life that I can actually remember; it's pretty crazy. -
As Zwill said, Twitter is a great way for devs to interact with the community. I've learned a lot from it because I check Twitter multiple times a day, as well as Facebook, but only read the forums maybe once or twice per week at most. If you're the opposite, then maybe Twitter isn't the preferred social media platform for you.
As a social service, Twitter works to connect companies and celebrities with fans, clients, users, etc.; whatever term applies to the situation. Having Twitter open up a dialogue in the way that it does is huge for PR, and one of the main reasons that the website even exists. As others have said, it's not just for news. It's a two-way street, a way of sharing information, comments, concerns, and questions. -
Although they haven't been very active lately, I'm sure a lot of you have seen @Hellcat and @Secret Lover around at some point. I'm happy to say that, after meeting in-game a couple of years ago, the two are finally getting married today! It's so funny thinking back to all of our CoH shenanigans finally leading up to this amazing day.
So lots of love and best of luck to my amazing friends @Secret Lover and @Hellcat; enjoy your wedding, your lives, and everything to come! -
30 minutes? I remember the days of 15 minute Eden runs =P
But still, same story with any speed runs. Do what the team wants...everyone has their own preference. Even if it is speed, it's not like it's hurting you by going faster. Plus some people have other things to do than play video games -
The devs said that you won't stop getting the veteran badges, they're staying. And you don't have to buy them with points
-
Zwill just said on today's ustream that you will NOT buy veteran rewards with paragon points, they are free. Although they will work in a "different fashion."
-
Quote:Actually you would drop to Premium, not free to play...and according to the Side-by-Side comparison, Premium can still be in SGs, and you can use paragon points to unlock the ability to use chat channels. If you go F2P, you won't be able to stay in any SGs, chat channels, AEs, limited content.
The whole reaction to having free players has been incredibly over-exaggerated, IMO. I've seen so many posts about people wanting a way to move everything to the VIP server, but why not just stay on the server you've always been on? If a few free players are enough to drive you away from your own server, you have some sensitivity issues. Plus Liberty has dealt with me for like 5 and a half years now...if you can do that, you can deal with a few free players. -
LB is the largest, that's probably your best bet. SisterhoodFriends is also a pretty popular one.
-
We've probably met, but my memory is terrible.
But we can still be friends! Hi! -
Are you just accepting everyone who requests, or can you tell by our profile pics that we're from LB?
-
I was pretty surprised to see next week as a release, but I'm happy about that
I know what I'm doing for spring break...
Also, first time a red name has posted in my thread! Although flirting with Ocho until he ran away probably ruined my dev communication chances. -
Quote:The one I mentioned in the second sentence of my post? Yeah =PYou realize there's a six hour server maintenance scheduled for tomorrow, right?
The problem with that is that it's on a Thursday, and while, yes, we have had what is it...2 Thursday releases for Issues? I still think we're more likely for a Tuesday. Also, haven't we had long maintenances before without it being an Issue release? Could be some kind of preparation, or something totally unrelated. -
It's been in beta for some time now, and the release must be coming soon...so any speculation as to a date? I know some have guessed the maintenance coming tomorrow may be it, but this seems to soon to me, personally.
I'm going to guess April 19th. The Weekly Strike Target thread was recently updated with April targets, and ends at the 18th. Maybe they didn't want to tell us yet that the ones after that will be the new i20 TF/SF? -

To be honest, even if the leader announces a plan at the beginning and people don't follow it, you can't completely blame them if the leader doesn't say or do anything to stop it. Sure, they didn't listen in the beginning, but this is the Internet...people are stupid. Wel, people are stupid outside of the Internet, but you know what I mean.
I also want to point something out from Wendy's post which I am too lazy to quote and cut out sections. It's not just the "Tanks/Brutes/Scrappers/etc" that can speed, and it's not just "smart" squishies that sit at the door. I have played and seen many Defenders and Controllers and the like through speed runs without issue...squishies huddling at the door to avoid deaths during speeds is a harsh generalization.
In the end, my opinion is that it really doesn't matter. So I get 26 merits and some kills in 30 minutes, or 26 merits and a bunch of kills in 40-50 minutes. Who cares? I'm still getting shards, merits, xp, etc. If taking 20-30 extra minutes for a few more shards is really the most important thing you have to do that day, you probably have bigger things to worry about. Although I'm probably not one to talk, CoH is most of my day.... -
Finally working on a respec for my Dark/Ice and could use some advice. I was mostly going for Defense and Recharge...will be mostly used for TFs.
Also, any ideas on an Alpha would be good...I'm thinking Cardiac or Spiritual?

Quote:This may be going a little far, in my opinion. Just because there's an event doesn't mean everyone on the server should be going there; there's nothing wrong with having multiple things going on at a time, especially when an MSR has 50 players and a TF only has 8. Plus, there are plenty of people who don't enjoy MSR's. Although I do agree that having 2 large events, like a CoP and a Hami, at the same time may cause a problem.Unity, in my opinion, is more about respect for the entire server's player base. For example, if I know there's an MSR happening this Friday night, being one who is in a union with the community, I don't try to start a CoP, Hami Raid, or even an ITF during the MSR. I head to RWZ and help. How many times have I seen an announcement on one of the global channels for a server event like Hami or MSR and the next line seen a comment that someone is looking for 4 more players for a task force. All on the same channel!

I finished mine yesterday as well, finally. And finally transferred back to hero side to do Cooling's arc in Ouro and get those 2 badges, bringing me up to 1172. Time for some damage farming and Mo's...
-
-
Looking forward to it...not nearly enough Hami raiding going on the past couple months =P
-
You would've gotten it on the same run, but we were too awesome and halfway killed Bobcat while we were fighting Neuron
-
If you switch sides, you will still be in the VG, but can not use the base or earn prestige until you switch back.
Also, if you can go to the zone, you can do the mission. Rogues, Villains, and Vigilantes can do red side missions, while Rogues, Heroes, and Vigilantes can do blue side missions. Although tourists can not get mission from a contact; but they can get newspaper/radio and safeguard/mayhems.
