Fantastic Four to die!

Not surprised it would be the Human Torch. Besides if they need the Fantastic Four to reunite, the original Android Human Torch was revived the other year and is still online.

Also, only Captain Mar-Vell stays dead.

Translation: YES! He'll be back. Death in a comic book only lasts slightly longer than the common cold and should be treated with the same level of seriousness.

Clicking on the linked image above will take you off the City of Heroes site. However, the guides will be linked back here.

While I will never discount that a character can come back from the dead, because it is one of the staples of comic book storytelling, I'm not going to tell you if he will, or when he will and if he does, how he will, but I can assure you that it's going to be very, very interesting and not what anyone expects.

Haven't read the lead up to Johnny's death, but I think it would be more of a matter of how he died and how they brought him back.

Basically, was it well written?

These are established and popular characters, and in the american comic medium, it just doesn't seem likely they'll stay dead and usually for the reason that, people don't want them to.

How many Human Torch fans want him to stay dead? He's been around a long time. It's not like he's a new hero who's become popular and then killed off. He's been around for 50 years.

So Johnny will become the new Phoenix which is unfortunate because once he has boobs you'll never get him out of his bunk.

As a safety precaution, Reed downloaded everyone's memories... without anyone knowing about, including the readers. Or the writers. He'll forget he's done this until 12 issues from now, when he'll repair a damaged android Torch -- who has conveniently suffered massive head trauma and is therefore without operating system or memory -- and will upload Johnny's slightly-out-of-date memories into it, creating Human Torch 2.0. Send out press release.

Not bad, except that for all the times the Android Torch has been blown apart his operating system always remains intact, even if it at times his reboot time is a bit slow...

Also I snicker at the articles that state the MU will never again hear the cry of "Flame On" when the Android Torch is the one that coined that saying......

Even though you're stealing plot from Star Trek Nemesis, its still better than finding out Johnny was a clone who thought he was the real Torch, or Sue Richards making a deal with Mephisto.

But is it better than not really dying at all, but being misplaced in time and having to fight your way back, while some of your allies fight to take over your role?

I'll be honest: I think these people keep forgetting that they are stewards of these properties, and not their owners. As a writer, you have to balance respect for the past with forging your own course, because you can't just be stuck in the past when you are taking over the legacy of other writers.

But for me, it comes down to this: if you want to shake up Spider-Man by killing Gwen Stacy, you're a genius. If you want to shake up Spider-Man by killing Spider-Man you're an idiot. If you can't figure out how to make the Fantastic Four work, that says something about you: go do something else. Destroying the title for the good of the title is ludicrous. Why write about characters you don't want to write about. Make up your own and go kill them off. If the problem is that people won't care about your characters as much as these more established ones, well that's the point isn't it. More people care about the Fantastic Four than care about the Fantastic Four writing team. Nobody cares about their writers block.

In any case, the chances of any good coming of this are something between zero, and negative zero.

That's ridiculous. What's REALLY going to happen is that Johnny will die in battle and then several months later, four Human torches will appear, all of them claiming to be Johnny Storm. Three of the four will eventually be revealed to be a creation of Reed Richards, while the fourth was sent out by Doctor Doom to make Reed look bad.

And of course the real John Storm will come out of nowhere to save everybody and be rocking one kickin' mullet.

Now I haven't followed them in decades but what stops Franklin from wishing Uncle Johnny back? Did he get mental blocks back in place or what?

Nope, Franklin's quasi-infinite-Deus Ex Machina-cosmic rewriteable-already saved everyone from dying in the onslaught-and later revived Galactus powers and WOULD HAVE BEEN BETTER THEN MEPHISTO powers are back online.

Reed keeps the mutant known as Leech near Franklin to dampen his powers.
