Transformers Prime!

I was surprised by a lack of a thread for this, so I figured I would make one now.

So anyways, Transformers Prime just wrapped up the first five episodes about a week or so ago, and so far the outlook is pretty dang positive all things considered. Now granted, like the rest of the Transformers franchise your mileage may vary from series to series, but I implore even the most curmudgeonly G1 fan to check this one out. The action was well done, the characters were (mostly) given depth far beyond what you would normally expect in a Transformers series, and the animation was very good for a CGI TV show (though not at the level of The Clone Wars but what TV show is?). But really, all my yapping about this series isn't going to do it justice, so just go watch it for yourself. Thankfully, all five episodes are currently online!

Part 1:

Part 2:

Part 3:

Part 4:

Part 5:

Enjoy!

How I wish Frank Welker could have done Megatron in the movies.... He gets that perfect balance of psychotic yet calculating down pat for Megatron.

I thought they were nicely done and interesting enough for me to give the full series a shot.

My wife, on the other hand, took one look at the first episode and at the moment where Optimus's face-shield slid back revealing a moving mouth/face she said "No. Just No." and walked away...

Sometimes, she gets hung up on the strangest things. (Which is OK I guess. After all she married me, and I'm one of those strangest things)

I'm gonna have to go with your wife. Did that come out wrong?

I, too, hate how Optimus doesn't have his mouth plate on all the time. It bugs me to no end.

I should be clear, though: the rest of the show also bugs.

Interesting, Susan Blu is the voice director, but she's not reprising her role as Arcee.

I love this Megatron so damn much. He's like Galvatron but just as nutty, five times as effective, and a hundred times as scary. Beast Wars Megatron is still my personal fave, but these two are so different that theres plenty of room for me to like them both.

Useless page. Not available outside the US. Some day publishes will realize that the internet is global and region blocks only say "We have something you might want, AND YOU CAN'T HAVE IT!" to those interested in the shows. I suppose they think people won't try to find alternate ways to see the show... Have they not heard of Google?

Maybe the Hub network isn't available outside the US? I don't know. But like you said, there are bound to be alternate ways to see it. I'm sure someone has no doubt uploaded the episodes to YouTube, somewhere...

I liked it. I've come to grips with the idea that Prime has a mouth behind his faceplate (after all, I lived through the Beast Wars era when the idea was first introduced) and the character designs by and large seem to be a decent mix of the Bayformer and Animated styles, though I do think they need to practice making the characters' mouth movements look a little better. I also think Starscream looks a little too wimpy or scrawny for my tastes. Yes, the human characters are kind of ridiculous, especially Miko's apparently complete disregard for her own safety for the sake of "cool" and Raf's plot device hacking skills. But thankfully the show keeps the focus squarely on the robots, for the most part, and the kids give a sense of scale to the Autobots and their battles, which is something that the Bay movies will hopefully have learned by the time Transformers 3 is complete.

Count me in for the rest of the series, when it starts!

There are indeed episodes on YouTube, as well as high quality rips available over Bittorrent.

I wish they'd leave Optimus Primes faceplate on.

Could do without Raff.

And why...why...does Bumblebee not speak?

Also, Arcee gotta be my favorite.

Well, yes, obviously. There always is. Which is why I think region locks on online content is silly, since there's always another way to get it. The first hit on Google is the official release, the next 100? Not so much. I don't get why companies are so eager to hand over the online business to the pirates, though.

It always has, and it hasn't stopped yet. Some people just haven't noticed.

Blows Bay outta the water. And, even though I grew up on the G1 series, I find I like Starscream's voice *alot* more here than the original. And of course, Prime's VO at the end gave me chills. Was I the only one caught off guard by Cliffjumper?

I was not expecting him to die!

Though zombie Cliffjumper was pretty awesome!

I mostly dislike the character designs. I dislike the kids. I'm not fond of the Dark Energon.

Dark Energon predades this show...it's a major plot element in the latest game, war for Cybertron, which was great game.

Having grown up on G1 Transformers and received my first lesson in true loss from G1 Optimus Prime's death, I feel some people need to let go of their G1 expectations. It's time to stop yelling at the kids to get off your lawn and get over the fact that not every Transformers update is going to look exactly like the original.

Styles change. New generations come along. What's important is that the spirit of the show stays the same, even if the look doesn't. I'm 2 episodes in, and so far it seems to have kept the quality of the characters true. Personally, I dig the new stylization and the moving mouths don't bother me. Yes, there's some obvious plot holes. What responsible parent doesn't become alarmed long before 10pm when their kid hasn't called or showed up at home? But it's a kids show, so little things like that are to be expected.

Overall, it's a pretty darn good job. The texture qualities are way beyond what I was expecting after having seen Beast Wars and Beast Machines. If they go for a full series, I hope they keep the quality up.

@Rylas

Kill 'em all. Let XP sort 'em out.

I agree with Rylas, we should all just be happy with the fact Transformers is still around and going strong like it is. Afterall.. it COULD'VE gone the way of Thundercats, Visionaries, and all the other great cartoons from the 80's. Show me ONE BRAND NEW episode of Thundercats, oh.. and brand new to ME not you.. I've seen the entire 80's series.

Let me help.. you wont' find one. Accept the fact that your favorite things might change over time, but as long as they keep the core concept the same...its ok right? Prime is still the same Prime he was back then.. he just looks a bit different, the same with all the transformers.

I didn't blame its existence on this show, I simply don't like it. Didn't care for it in the game, either, though the game otherwise was worth a playthrough.

The designs largely look bad to me (Bulkhead and Cliffjumper being the only two exceptions I can cite offhand). It has nothing to do with expecting it to look exactly like the original: after all, I didn't mind the Beast Wars robot designs overall. And I liked Transformers Animated.
