I'll have one "Odontophobia" pill, please. That's fear of dentists, by the way. Seriously, if I could cure that with a pill, I'd buy that cure in a heartbeat.

Yes, let's remove possibly the number one thing that stops a lot of people (though not all obviously) from doing a lot of very stupid things.....

Goodbye. Not to the game, but the players. Goodbye. Everyone, remember to have fun. That's all I can say.
so what happens when extremist cells get ahold of this?
I am an ebil markeeter and will steal your moneiz ...correction stole your moneiz. I support keeping the poor down because it is impossible to make moneiz in this game.
And here i thought that the whole mind reading thing (which we can do like 90% accurately) would scare people...not the thing that makes people not scared... especially since being scared of it is proof they haven't used it on you.
The philosophical, therapeutic, and moral implications of this research are immense.
From a therapy standpoint, wiping such traumatic memories may be the only way to help some people get better.
From a philosophical standpoint, some may think that all memories are important and should be preserved regardless of their traumatic nature as "Those who forget the past are condemned to repeat it".
From a moral standpoint, some may think this is a new method of brainwashing. I know of a few conspiracy oriented relatives that would freak out and go on their rants if they read about this.
For me personally, fear is not an emotion that I feel these days thanks to some traumatic events of the past few years. Whether it is a temporary repression of the biochemical processes that generate the emotion, or something more permanent is something that neither the Doctors nor myself are able to confirm. I guess it doesn't really matter though. Memories are intact, other emotions still function.
Doesn't matter, though.

I can do without the red and orange rings though.
When people have surgery and are given anesthesia, there are two components. One deadens the brain enough to 'sleep' and the other is essentially a memory-blocker so that when (not if) someone wakes up on the table with their guts in parts, they may panic or whatever, but they simply won't remember it.
I don't know how close this is to that effect though.
I just think it's a darn shame that people even WANT to remove fear - memories? Yes. Taking actually *emotionally traumatic* moments I can see (I've got a few). But fear? Fear and pain are far better teachers than parroting and 'book learnin'. If we want to evolve ourselves into a species of ... I dunno, idiots who perpetually claim "hold my beer, I'm gonna show you something" ... oi. People SHOULD be afraid. We are NOT at the top of the food chain, we just happened to have killed enough of the rest of the food chain off that we LOOK like we are.
I'm not even a conspiracy theorist in any way, but MAN this idea bugs me.
Stupidity should be painful. Pain should trigger fear. Fear should make you learn not to do stupid things. *shrug*

"You don't lose levels. You don't have equipment to wear out, repair, or lose, or that anyone can steal from you. About the only thing lighter than debt they could do is have an NPC walk by, point and laugh before you can go to the hospital or base." -Memphis_Bill
We will honor the past, and fight to the last, it will be a good way to die...
While I would want to help people who have suffered trauma, this isn't the way to approach it.
Seems like just a first step towards this
I accept my fears and bad memories. I've learned too many hard lessons to erase them. We feel the things we do for a reason.

Beware:NERDS ARE THE WORST FANS!!
It's true.
We're hardwired to do this. I don't think we're ready as a species to just drop the whole thing, since we're still not really able to empathize with each other or the environment well enough to NOT completely damage everything around us in addition to ourselves.

On second thought, perhaps the hastening of our own self destruction would be a course of action that should be taken.
If I'm not afraid of it or the consequences, I can completely rip it to shreds. Afterall, it's not our fear of what we're capable of, but rather our fear of the consequences for what we do that keeps most of us in check. Take away that fear and you can do your worst upon society.
"What about the horrific trauma you would cause?"
"Well, give them the same miracle treatment and you don't have to worry about it, now do you?"
I wouldn't mind forgetting that I saw/did/said certain things since they have no real outcome that would effect my life in any way.
Full story here.
Short version: It's a very specific type of chemical that is formed in the brain that comprises the fear reaction. We can remove that chemical, which would cause someone to both not be afraid of something and forget the memories that caused them to be afraid in the first place.
I've seen references to Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Men in Black, The Haitian, and more...
... I'm gonna go with the COBRA Soldiers of the G.I. Joe movie.
