Scientists find a way to remove bad memories and fear
Well this has the potential to be one of those transformative innovations that has the potential to be both very beneficial and very harmful to society at the same time. Kind of like the automobile - it has offered unparalleled travel freedom for millions but it has also probably killed millions since it was invented.
Hopefully this kind of thing will prove to be beneficial enough to society to overcome the downsides.

True, it has potential for good and bad. The potential for use as a brainwashing drug needs to be considered. It's not a question of if it will be used like this, of course it will. All medicine has a misuse facto to consider. But if this is a cure for PTSD, then I'm all for it. Plus the phobia-be-gone aspect of it appeals to me a lot. Got a couple of nasty ones that I'd really like to see vanish in a puff of logic.

It's an interesting invention, to say the least, and I can't help but wonder what's next. A cure for stupid? Unlikely, but useful, I'd think.

"Bubble up for safety!"
Seems like a good idea in my book. Have to thin the herd somehow and letting people get on with it themselves by hurling themselves off a cliff in a dustbin or whatever is as good a way as any.
As John Locke (the Lost character, not the actual philosopher) once said: "I needed that pain to get where I am now."
"Ben is short for Frank."

How you get repeat customers. People who use pills to cope with everything in life. As Calisto on Xena said, "I like to live life in it's full agonizing glory." Otherwise just seems you'd end up dependent on emotional painkillers.

+1 Which is why I have little respect for alcoholics, chain smokers (or any form of tobacco addict), and drug addicts.

Anyone smell the Eugenics Wars coming? Maybe about 20-30 years late, but still with all this talk about using science and medicine to genetically "enhance" humanity lately....

Well this is all traumatic memory. Not all memories. However, I would think you could just as easily get the fear back with a new traumatic experience.
