Only ones to ever use the second build were a couple who used it as a level 10 respec without wasting an actual respec.
I think the agenda behind these threads seems borderline spamming, but I'm curious to see the answers to these two questions, so I'll throw mine in too.
I currently have seventeen characters in my rotation. One of which has a second build.
Including all the extra character slots used up, I have a little over 80 characters.
One uses the second build, and that's because he's the character I use to roleplay.
I've got about 15 characters now, and none of them use the second build system. I personally never liked it when it was implemented (I didn't see the need for it), and I still maintain that it's not needed for how I play.
24 level 50s, a few used second builds as a freespec.

I have a 50 in every AT, but Scrappers and Dominators are my favorites.
Yes the OP's tried that argument in at least one of his other three threads and it failed miserably.

LOL
Thanks for that. Yes, we're not scrapping the system. We were actually very happy with the beta test of the Alpha slot, as well as acquiring the powers for it. What we DO want you to have is something to do with it! Since Incarnate stuff doesn't exemplar down (by design), we needed to make sure that getting the Alpha slot and abilities wasn't considered "useless".
Oh, and I will take this opportunity to clear up some confusion. There are currently 10 slots for the Incarnate system. These will likely not all be in one single issue, but doled out over several. And for those who were not in beta: one of the last things we did before the slot was pulled was give you a third build upon unlocking the Alpha slot, so if you wanted an "End-Game Incarnate" build separate from your "exemplaring" build and your "soloing" build, you will have access to it. |

27 characters, no real dual builds. There are a few characters where I used the dual build option instead of a respec, but none where I use it to switch back and forth as intended.
Having Vengeance and Fallout slotted for recharge means never having to say you're sorry.

i make stuff...
Over 35 characters, none use dual builds. Which...I also never use respecs...

Got some 20+ characters, most located on Virtue and only TWO of them use the dual/second build option.
Of those two, one's a Widow and the other is SoA so using dual builds makes certain sense, as who'd want to level a Widow and Fortunata separately when they don't have to?
I've got about 12 characters I actively play every now and then
1 uses the dual build actively, my Fort/Widow.
Some of the others used it at 22 as a freespec and then left the old build to rot as they don't use it any more or have need of it.
16 characters.
Only my tank uses his second build and only because it's easier to farm -2/x8 freakshow with fireball, hasten, and buildup.
Where to now?

Making rough guesses at what "-ish" and "handful" mean, I come up with 72/1317. Less than 5.5% of characters. Among "Toons", the figure is higher.
Since some people only mentioned thier L50's, figures may be lower.
Among non-forumites, i.e., most of the playerbase, figures are likely lower.
It's hard to say. On the one hand I have 135 characters though 33 charactersare 30+. Ten are 30-32, seven are 35-38, two are 41-44, one is 47 and 13 are 50.
I have one with a second build.
total kick to the gut
This is like having Ra's Al Ghul show up at your birthday party.
About 28 toons. Tried it on two - my widow and bane so for the other VEATs. That is it.
I have a lot of characters. I'm not going to bother counting.
My Widow has two builds, one Widow and one Fortunata. I have pretty much lost interest in the Widow build though.
My main has a second high-defense build that I pretty much gave up on after the BotZ nerf. I'm probably going to just pull the enhancements out of it.
My Brute from the early days of CoV is actually using her second build, since the first one is the SOd level 30-something build I was running when inventions came out. I wanted to keep her playable while I was tricking her out with IOs, so I used the second build. The first build is completely unneccessary now.
My Scrapper has a second base editing build with Hover, since I respecced it out on my main build. I haven't bothered training it up past level 10 or so, vastly confusing my SG mates who see that my second 50 is constantly sitting at level 10.
None of my characters need more respecs. Most of them have never even taken the respec reward on the respec trial or used up all their vetspecs. Mids is my friend.

Personally I use the second build all the time to test out powers I'm not sure about for my primary build and also on new characters I'll usually run up to 20 on one build then switch over to the second build so I can have endurance. At lower level extra powers are more valuable then swift or hurdle so a jury-rigged respect at 20 is always helpful.
Only 2 or 3 of my characters really swtich between two builds making active use of them and in in both cases it is for solo vs group builds on things like corruptors where that little bit of difference counts for a lot in solo. Mostly it is too much bother to have to maintain two sets of enhancements otherwise I might take advantage of the second build more.
Well it looks like thew OP has decided to turn one of his other threads on this topic into a flamewar because people aren't agreeing with him.

Edit: Looks like the mods locked it on him.
Nonetheless, it's an interesting question.
24 characters, 1 has a second build for RP purposes (group fly and some other showy powers I'd never otherwise give a character, it isn't slotted at all).
I am thinking of giving Shadowguardinal (my first 50) a second build so I can slowly start filling it with IO sets. That and having a solo vs group build are the only things I can think of ever using the second build for.
I have about 22 actively played characters.
I honestly don't remember if I ever used the second build on any of them, so lets just call that "none"
Doesn't look like this thread is having the desired result. Since very few people seem to actually use the second build, what is the justification for handing out freespecs for it?
I mean, they ALREADY hand out freespecs to characters that are completely unaffected by any changes that may have been made. If Fireball gets changed, your Energy/Energy blaster gets a freespec, even though the change has no effect on him at all. They could datamine and only give freespecs to characters impacted by any changes.
Be glad they don't.

Oh, and what about all those times they give out two freespecs an issue because they didn't give enough notice, or they gave it out early and all the new characters made with the issue's new powersets didn't get one, or everybody complained for some other reason?
Besides, free respecs don't stack, so they could hand out ten at a time and you'd still only be able to use one, HA!

30 active characters.
Only my widow makes use of the second build. Which is to say, she has one, but I almost never swap to it. I like the Fortunata better for unique play, and I already have a Claws scrapper.
Mids is my friend, and I don't think I've ever used up the vet specs on a single character. Usually when I find the need to respec, there's a freespec waiting.
ok, out of curiosity, it was previously stated that optical is the alt account of the guy who published that paper on coh pvp a while ago, con anyone confirm or deny this.
