    Awesome Victory

Thank you all for the kind words. It is no wonder why I only played on Victory.

    Awesome Victory

    Howdy Victory,

Just a little note that I will be hanging it up after I hit the 84 month mark in a couple of weeks. Taken the last month off and finding I don't miss the blasting and punching or rezzing Voo after every fight like I thought I would.

The game was great and an awesome way to de-stress after quite a number of long days. But after 7 years, my boys have grown and doing more with them as well as work. Of course, I do not like the direction this game is heading. It is not the game that got me hooked so long ago.

Murphland and Iggylove - without you two, I would have left this game probably over 5 years ago. You two have been so great to me over the years and all the times we had. I don't know what else to say. I will miss you so much.

Voodoo - I definitely will miss you. You do a lot for Victory IMO. I loved the regular groups and all the events you set up. I am happy you got that badge finally.

So many more I will miss: Mental Giant (keep on Voo!), Blitz Auggen (one of the best in my book), SHamster (yeah really), Masque ( <3 forever), McMackie, Elegost & Ryxx (you both are awesome on what you know about this game), Death Conquerer (was there anything that could beat you?). And yet still more (Viv, MP/fMP, Labattam, Polaris, and all the rest on Victory).

Thanks all again. I may pop a few times on before I cancel, for another TF or jump around the city beating up a few grays.

And no, you can't have my stuff.

That's a good part of it. I quit my previous MMO over a similar change. Another is RL has changed over the years. The game was fun because it had some challenge, now it is just easy mode. Within in no time, the new content will be picked apart and completed as fast as possible so you can cram your merit runs in for the night.

Again, I will watch and see the changes first so to be informed and not make some rash judgement. Besides, I think Voo will hunt me down if I leave before he gets his MLRSF badge.
  5. Well, not sure what to make of it. Initial feeling is my faith in the devs dropped further. Since I20, I find it harder and harder to log in with the direction this game is heading. Heck, I was free last night but decided to watch idol instead with the family.

Oh well, I am just grumpy and will see what the rest of release is like. Although I could see myself hanging up the cape when I ding 7 years soon.

Oh please, inside banks makes how much of this game? You're exaggerating here. But whatever, disagreeing is obviously a bad thing on the forums nowadays.
  7. Welcome back! Remember to join the global channels for Victory. Always something going on.

    Civilians

/unsigned for the reasons brought up previously in threads about this topic.

I like having them and adds a little challenge to an already easy game.
  9. Did the Rapture take Tuesday TF's? :O

    Baby!

Congratulations on the new joy! It is a wonderful experience and forever cherish.

TBH, it's okay Adeon. I don't think we are going to convince each other to the other side unless the devs gives us more clues as to whether buffs would be changed via nerf, end, rech, etc. or not at all. Changing them to AOE's would ruin game play for some and improve for others. And really, not much more to say on that.

    1. Select team mate
    2. Cast first shield
    3. Cast second shield
    4. GOTO 1
Which is different how from say my scrapper on teams:
    1. Select target
    2. punch, punch
    3. punch, punch, target dies
    4. GOTO 1

    Or my blaster:
    1. Select target
    2. pew,pew,pew
    3. pew,pew,pew, target dies
    4. GOTO 1

    Or my MM:
    1. BG mode
    2. AF tank
    3. Take nap
    4. GOTO 1 j/k

Anyhow, IME, there is no real difference from toons in actions - we just click powers on targets, be it buffs or be it damage or be it whatever, with the exception of some AOEs.

With every other non-toggle/pet power in the game there are critical choices to be made regarding when to use the power and who to use it on. To me this is what constitutes engaging gameplay, having to make decisions about how to use the power. The short recharge buffs fail that test. There might, under certain circumstances, be a decision to not use the powers at all but for the most part endurance and casting time are readily available enough that the core gameplay for those powers comes down to: maintain them on all teammates.
And the crux of our difference. Buffs to me are strategic game play. Should I use that CM now or wait, in which case I could be mezzed or killed and then missed my chance to use my buff. I have never seen a case where all buffs are needed all the time. I find it hard to believe that you don't think there is anything wrong with a team with a cold, therm, FF, and emp for example and buffs were AOE based - all those buffs on all team mates, practically non-stop unless things like end and rech are not affected. Imagine a league now with multiple buffing toons all hitting AOE buffs. That would be insanely overpowered IMO.

This is one of the things that bugs me whenever this topic comes up. People seem to take it for granted that changing the buffs to AoE would require a nerf to end/recharge/something and I just do not buy it. The only one I see that would need nerfing in that situation is Speed Boost but that's only because I think that the current version of Speed Boost should be nerfed anyway (which is a completely different and even more controversial topic).

Suppose you took the current powers (lets say for Force Field) and changed it from a single target buff to an AoE team buff that doesn't affect the caster (yes, I said team, more on this later) without changing anything else. Would it break the game? From the point of view of your teammates nothing changes, they still have the shields up with the same power level and need to come back to you every 4 minutes to refresh them. From your point if view what changes is that you now spend 4.14 seconds and 15.6 endurance every 4 minutes refreshing the shields instead of 28.98 seconds and 109.2 endurance. Yes, it does seem like a significant amount but can you really tell me, with a straight face that the game is so tightly balanced that this change to, essentially, activation time and endurance cost of a power you cast every four minutes will really break the balance?

Similarly for recharge there is no benefit to casting the power multiple times on the same character, it just refreshes the duration. Since you can't effectively cast the power more than once every four minutes anyway does it matter if the power recharges quickly?

To me the balance objective of these powers should be:
If you are teamed with a person who has the power and are located in the same general area as them you should get the benefit, if you leave the team or move to far away from the power owner for to long the benefit expires.

The current powers meet that objective and changing them to a team based non-caster affecting AoE would not change the balance with regards to that objective. Now, this is costing the powers some flexibility in a league based environment but I do not think that is necessarily a bad thing. There is a line drawn between team buffs and league buffs and adding these to the team buff side encourages more care with how different characters are distributed through the league (i.e. don't but all of your bubblers on the same team).

Now there are two specific types of other buff to consider: Mez Protection Buffs and Speed Boost

Mez protection buffs I think are ok as is. The design intent for them seems to be reactive use to break a mez on an ally and they seem well balanced for that. Changing them to AoE would probably not be to bad (especially considering the existence of Clarion) but it is probably not needed.

Speed Boost is a special case. I suspect the design intent was to use it re-actively to help a friend who got hit by a heavy debuff but the problem is it is way to good for what it does. Personally I'd do the following:
    1. Make it a non-caster AoE and increase duration to 4 minutes (for the reasons discussed above)
    2. Remove the movement increase (I like the movement boost but it causes problems for a lot of people)
    3. Decrease the recharge bonus to +25%

I'd honestly advocate doing number 3 even if the first 2 items were not done. I really feel that Speed Boost is to good for it's recharge/duration ratio.
Okay, taking this in one large chunk. In short, how can you not see rech/end or nerf if the powers affect 7 others instead of 1? And I mentioned aboved, imagine leagues now with all those AOEs going off. I am in the camp that the devs would balance the AOEs as AOEs rather than single target powers. I guess we will just differ on that unless there are changes that show differently.

And a minor note on the current iTrials in that I agree that buffing toons seem to be in danger there. But so far, toons like my emp def or cold corr have no issues joining. Maybe on some servers, this is not the case. But the balance is that these are iTrials and the incarnate powers are not working at low levels, which buffing powers do. I still believe that players will play what they want and that buffing toons are not for everyone.

Not everyone who plays support likes the same playstyle that you do.
    Or your style too.

If a happy middle position could be found that doesn't lead to nerfing buffs or increase rech/end/etc., then it should be explored. Based on the dev's history for game balance, I don't see them just making AOE buffs out the single target ones as an option.

Why do they need shields? If they're taking zero damage now, shielding them wouldn't make them take less damage. However, the Tanker who is getting pounded on? Sure, shield him.

However, if the power was changed, then you'd have to shield all-or-none (or at least, whoever was in range), and would be charged endurance to match the possibility that it would be all. Or the recharge would be increased such that you'd have to account for recharge slotting in the powers so that they could be up permanently.

All you'd really be doing is changing strategic buffing for non-strategic buffing, but that doesn't necessarily mean that it'd be less stressful on everyone. Some people hate the "gather for AM"-type buffs, and they have sets that allow them to avoid that.
Well said Aett. I would be one of those more stressed out by changes to the buffs mentioned. I love my support toons - they are my favorite to play.

And I agree that not every player needs to be buffed all the time. It is not hard to figure out who needs a buff and who doesn't. I would hate to see my buffs nerfed or end usage greatly increased because players are being lazy in learning strategic buffing.

And to that third point mentioned above:

Buffing toons are not for everyone. Players will roll what they want, including melee and buffing toons. And would you like to back up with real numbers here on "City of Brutes"? Or are you just exaggerating since that is not my experience with this game.

The walls in the room with my computer are covered in all of Voo's post...
  17. Good run. Was nice to do something else besides an iTrial.

Should be around for next week's (get the word out now for a MLRSF, these incarnates will blow though it).

The question I has was not to insult the Dev's or make a demand, it was to simple know if new powers are coming out or any plans of new powers coming out. I'm new to the forums, it was a harmless question. I thought I was polite thoughout this forum, considering the people trying to insult me and I guess stick up to the very hard working dev's? that they themselves have never talked to 1on1 or work'd with.
More and more of this lately in that if you don't like what the OP says, you are mean and insulting. The forums have been more positive than negative.

Thanks DMystic for pointing out that new powers have been put in the game and there is a stickied thread for power suggestions.

As for future plans, I will challenge you to show where in the world of any industry where future plans are laid out for all to see. Do car makers show what is up for 2013? Do computer companies reveal their devices for the next few years so that all their competitors can see and plan around that? This game is no different.

The devs have shown a history of introducing new powers to the game, and I have zero doubt they have more up their collective sleeves. Let me ask you this, if they said they were going to have polearms out as a set, but then ran into problems, and months become years. Will the players be oh-so-nicely quiet while the devs try to get them to work or screaming "hey, you said you were going to give us polearms!!!!!!! Where are they???!!!??!" One step further in the devs say "well, since we said we will give you polearms, we will hold off on new content until we get them done." Any guess the reply from the player base? The devs have their reasons for witholding information.

And the devs do communicate. I know I have PM'd them before (like my Rikti O suggestion and gotten a reply). They are at conventions and even did that video the other day. Try those.
