PBAoE melee character?

Difficulty: not Spines.

What is there? Looking for something with at least two or three moderate+ damage PBAoE attacks, and a couple of strong single-target attacks. AT isn't important, although a good defense is.

Not a huge amount of difference to be honest. Most melee sets have a 8ft PBAoE attack and a cone attack of some description. The only exceptions I can recall are Energy Melee (no cone), Super Strength (no cone but a 15ft range on the PBAoE), Claws (has a knockback cone as well), Electrical Melee (has a 90second recharge but more powerful PBAoE) and Spines.

If you want good AoE damage without Spines an Electrical/Shield Scrapper might suit you. You can almost alternate Lightning Rod and Shield Charge on spawns and use other attacks to mop up.

Really no question to the answer:

Elec melee Stalker Brute or scrapper.

All very good, though people may not team with you on a stalker. Beware.


When something good happens to me, I can never enjoy it....

In that case Spines and Dual Blades are the best options with on PBAoE and two medium cones (compared to the PBAoE, one wide cone and one narrow cone in most other sets). Melee sets all have relatively limited AoE damage, it's part of what balances them against Blast sets. Blast sets get better AoE but it tends not to be PBAoE since characters with Blast sets don't like PBAoE. And of course except for a few Defenders/Corruptors (like Traps) who have high defense most Blast set ATs are a bit squishy.

SS/Shield Brute might only have two PBAOEs, but it's going to be getting the among the most effective AoE damage. KO Blow and Gloom give you nice ST damage, too.

Fire/Rad controller with perma-hasten/perma-AM. Choking Cloud locks everything down for nearly complete safety. Hot Feet/Imps/APP attack for AOE. Potential massive single target damage when combined with the rad debuffs.

Only melee I can think of (barely functioning at this late hour) fitting the description is a scrapper Martial Arts/Shield.

MA has Dragon's Tail: PBAoE, Moderate DMG(Smash), Foe Knockdown. I tend to slot this for a rapid recharge.

MA also has a pair of strong, single-target kicks (which you wanted) in eagle's claw and crane kick.

Shield has the awesome Shield Charge: PBAoE, Superior DMG(Smash), Foe Knockdown, Self Teleport. I find teams use me to tank alot using an opening salvo of a strong shield charge, and repeating the strike with a fast recharge.

Shield's defense is great too.

On my MA/Sh, I took the Epic powers of Body Mastery, with Conserve Power, Focused Accuracy, and Physical Perfection all contributing to the powers I've previously listed.

Shield/Fire for tankers would give you 3, 1 from Shield and 2 from Fire. Shield Charge, Fire Sword Circle and Combustion just for kicks. Also has Breath of Fire if you want to shoot flaming snot on your foes.

Shield/Fire Tank is a good option. You could also go Willpower/Fire Tank with the Pyre APP.

Tanker Fiery Melee has 2 PBAOE attacks, Combustion and Fire Sword Circle. Take Shield Defense and you have a third from Shield Charge, and even if that's on the chopping board, it would take a nerf beyond previous dreams of nerfdom to make Shield Charge an actually bad power. Tanker Fiery Melee isn't too bad single target either, with Incinerate and Greater Fire Sword.

If you *REALLY* want PBAOE attacks, take Fiery Aura. I don't recommend it with the current state of the set, but it does offer a few more PBAOE options. Put together they still don't add up to Shield Charge, though.

I would throw in a recommendation for either Fire/Fire/Fire tank, Shield/Electric/Fire tank or Shield/Fire/Fire tank. Although Fireball isn't actually PBAoE it can be used as one.

I would also throw in a recommendation for the alternative Rad/Fire blaster combo - the Electric/Fire blaster. By level 10 you get 3 PBAoE attacks and one ranged AoE attack (which can be used as PBAoE, just aim close!). You then also get Blazing Aura and Hot Feat later on for more damage. You could also take Repulsion Bomb from the epics for anothere ranged AoE for even more fun.

It does lack a bit of defence and is a little fragile solo but I have enjoyed playing it on teams because you just rip through stuff!

Another way to go is Dominator. Fire Control has Hot Feet. Options for PBAoEs in the secondary are Earth (Tremor, Mud Pots), Energy (Whirling Hands), Fiery (Combustion, Consume), Ice (Ice Sword Circle, Chilling Embrace), Psionic (Drain Psyche, Psychic Shockwave), and Thorny (Thorn Burst). Power Sink from Mu Mastery and Dark Consumption and Soul Drain from Soul Mastery are also PBAoE.

Granted, several of those don't do damage, so they may not be what you're looking for.

War Mace is what you want. War Mace/Shield, War Mace/Invuln, War Mace/WP, War Mace/SR Brutes are all solid choices.

Electric Melee provides you with 2 PBAoEs (Lightning Rod and Thunderstrike)

1 pseudo-AoE in Chain induction.

1 Cone

Adding in /Shield provides another PBAoE.

And Epics can get you a Targeted AoE.

Claws + any secondary with a damage aura, simply because Spin has such an awesome recharge time. The damage aura's damage could be upped with Follow Up as well.

...ok, so much for Elec/Fire blaster. I think Scarlet-Letter is the most dead I've ever gotten on a single character, and that's including ones that took me 500 hours to level to 50.

If you've got force fields on the team or something, you can build an entire attack chain out of PBAOE and still skip some of the bad ones.

Definitely Rad/Fire Blaster. You get 9 AoE's, including the 2 damage auras. It's been a fun ride for me, so much so that I made a thread on this very subject in the Blasters' forums.

Only thing is, you'll grab a ton of aggro so make sure you can find a good Tanker to team with as well as support toons like Defenders and Controllers.
