Can't wait. I think GR and i18 will bring new life to CoX.

Hint: Any chance for free Character transfers before or at launch of GR. Sure would be nice to be able to clean up some room for new goodies. Willing to send cookies if this helps.

Bug fixes aren't features.

If that's how you're counting it, fourteen.

Plus its 10 bucks less then CoV was.. so I'm thinking the bang for your buck, is still there.
ATs are being proliferated; no new ones.

Apparently, I play "City of Shakespeare"
*Arc #95278-Gathering the Four Winds -3 step arc; challenging - 5 Ratings/3 Stars (still working out the kinks)
*Arc #177826-Lights, Camera, Scream! - 3 step arc, camp horror; try out in 1st person POV - 35 Ratings/4 Stars

I am seeing a lot positives and a negative with Issue 18 and GR coming out. But to be honest with all the positives the sole negative of CoP now being a trial with no Item of Power, is really relatively minor. As for the PvP issues, sorry folks, I'm just not a PvPer, never have been and probably never will be, so I really have a hard time sympathizing with you. All in all, I can't wait for the release on August 17th.

GoRo will also.

GoRo introduces NO new Archetypes.

CoV gave us a big bunch of new power sets.
(Please read "new power set" to include the "proliferated" powers from hero ATs.)
GoRo will give us 4 new powersets; one available for each AT.

So ... like I said ...
I was just hoping for more.

It just seems like the money spent on Cov netted more "Bang for your buck," as it were.
CoV was a stand-alone game - and it cost more too.

Fourteen? You mean the four EATs? I doubt they'll be SoAs in Praetoria, for storyline reasons. Same thing with Khelds.

Although, it would be nice to have and official word on this.

You're correct that only the ten base ATs will be able to start in Praetoria, but Arbegla was talking about playing villainous ATs on the hero side and vice versa.

I think I'll touch on a few of these in my typical fashion...

Quote:
One Auction House for All

Players of all alignments, whether they are Heroes, Villains, Vigilantes, or Rogues, can now use any Wentworth's Consignment House or Black Market venue.
Good work, Paragon! Now, everyone can pay way too much for salvage, recipes, and, well, everything they weren't already. Plus the best part is by combining them, we have one whole collapsing market. I never thought I'd see the day....

Quote:
Trading Between Alignments

Heroes and Villains can now trade Inspirations in co-op zones. Players can even mail certain items to their own characters using the global email system.
Another solid, Paragon. Someone ought to call up M5 and get them cracking on the saying, "Better late than never", because I think we've Busted it!

Quote:
Cathedral of Pain

Issue 18: Shades of Gray reintroduces the long-awaited Cathedral of Pain Trial. The Cathedral of Pain is the name of one of the strongholds of Ruularu the Ravager, a cosmic entity with unimaginable powers. Inside the heavily defended Cathedral of Pain, Ruularu is attempting to pierce the barrier between his realm and our reality. If he succeeds, Ruularu gains ultimate power, and our dimension will be obliterated.

Only you and your allies can stop Ruularu.

The Cathedral of Pain is one of the most challenging trials in City of Heroes. Up to 24 Level 35 to 50 characters can work together to take down the Soldiers of Ruularu, Psionic Resonators, and ultimately an aspect of Ruularu himself. You have only one hour to complete your mission.

If your group manages to stop Rularuu's insane scheme, your courage will be rewarded! You can earn Merit Rewards, or even earn a rare badge to celebrate this epic victory. But be on guard--Ruularu will return.
Boo-Yah! Content we stopped caring about 3 years ago!

Well. Done. Paragon.

Someone needs to get on the line with the Peace Prize Committee, because this is the greatest recycling effort we might ever see in our lifetime.

---

This game is going places, I'm not afraid to say it. You guys really know how to soar right at the sun, and never stop. Critics are always saying, "Paragon you're mad! This will never work!" but you just shrug your shoulders and stay the course, because this game can only go up, and can only get hotter.

Just like The Hindenburg.

I wish I could say I was excited about a new Issue or Update, but after the last one nearly forced me out of the game entirely due to the new system requirements, I can only look at each new Issue and Update with dread. I have to wonder "Is this going to be the one that finally ends six years of gaming with CoX?".

Odd... I didn't think the minimum requirements to run the game changed a bit. Can't one simply turn off the new settings in Ultra?

Unfortunately, no. The graphics engine and game code itself were changed to incorporate the code needed for Ultra mode and associated audio upgrades, and that upped the requirements. Even with all Ultra Mode options set to zero, I had to lower my graphics settings to almost minimal just to get a fps that would allow me marginal play.

I'm going to be completely blunt here, if you're only barely playable post-I17 graphics upgrades, you must be running a POS computer. I say this because my laptop with on-board graphics (ATI Radeon Mobility. It's not a real card, it is onboard, it's just ATI instead of Intel.) hasn't taken a performance hit from I17.

Also, you do realize that they aren't going to be doing a graphics upgrade for a good long while now, right? You know when the last graphics/engine upgrade was? I6/CoV. I17 was essentially the GR/I18 graphics upgrade, rolled out earlier.

Could also try lookin up and updating your drivers. Yes, some of the bulk files may have changed, but the mininum requirements didn't, so just update your drivers, and you should be fine *thats exactly what i did, and my card could handle UM maxed. updating my drivers made me go from 10 FPS on my, to 40 FPS without changing a single setting*

True, but I kind of wish they'd slow down on the new features in favor of fixing what's been broken for awhile now. Guess that's just whishful thinking, though.

Very wishful, and evident of a lack of knowledge of actual program design.

There are bugs with some pseudopets right now. However, the team making all these new missions couldn't do squat to fix those, as they are not people who are familiar with the powers system. It'd be like expecting a quarterback to make a clutch tackle in place of a linebacker because both play American football.

Second, I18 is the issue that's coming along with GR, so they kinda need all these features they advertised for GR to be ready for it.

But there's much more bugs in the game than a few power issues, though. Some has to do with missions, some with the AE, some with the market, and some with costume parts.

And I think I would much rather they postpone GR and, vicariously, I18 if that's what it would take to finish cleaning up I17 and ensure that that doesn't happen again, only on a larger scale.

Bug fixes will occur as they always have: sporadically, unpredictably, and unfocused-ly (hey, it's a word now). And they tend to happen for weeks after each issue is released, YMMV.

Halting further progress until bugs are squished is a no-win game. After all, bug fixes sometimes CAUSE bugs. So even fixing the system could be breaking the system. It depends heavily on code. It also depends on things that haven't happened yet: i.e. if you fix something today, and change a system tomorrow that your fix depends on (in a different department and done by different people) you will have a NEW problem. On and on ad nauseum.

So we basically just have to deal with it and hope for the best that someday something happens that might come close to fixing it.

Hrm.

Since AE was given free to everyone, even if AE DID bring them back to the game they didn't have to pay anything to get it... in other words a guaranteed lost $20 by not forcing the purchase like they are doing with GR.

And the Architect Edition wasn't a good starting point, since it had CoH, CoV plus the touted Architect mission creation system as well as HALF THE PRICE POINT OF GOING ROGUE?!? If Marketing is "being smart" with Going Rogue, when it came to Architect Edition then Marketing was "being not smart".

Ashes to ashes,

I think the only reason they bothered to put out a new retail box at all was so that they could get retail shelf presence. From what I understand, most video game retailers had stopped carrying CoH because the existing retail box was too dated.

In that sense, it wasn't really a lost $20, because without the Architect Edition box on Gamestop's shelves, there wouldn't have been ANY CoH retail box available for purchase in stores, I think.

I hope i18 is pure win.

You do realize that's exactly how programming works, right? Windows XP is still getting bugfixes. So are countless games besides this one, including WoW.

Bugs will always happen in programming. It's a fact of the universe.

Slow down on new features? It's already at the rate of a leaky faucet. Any slower and the dripping will stop completely.

Based on the return of the Cathedral of Pain, the new Tip Missions, and the pure awesome that is GR, I think I can safely conclude this may be the third super-awesome issue in a row!

*rubs eyes* Umm... Did I see a giant Emperor Cole statue in that one screenshot?

to TO THE END!
