For the record, I dig humans.
Frankly all but the silly looking dragon guy are creepy looking to me.

Interesting. Do you have a similar reaction to Disney's Robin Hood?

Actually, the stigma of what a "furry" is has altered that term's definition to the point that it does just refer to those with deviant sexual tastes. There's now a difference between furries and anthropomorphic animals, and it comes down to the difference between liking anthropomorphic animals and liking anthropomorphic animals.

<scratches head>

Um, no. The difference between furries and anthropomorphic animals is that the former is liking anthropomorphic animals, and the latter is actually being an anthropomorphic animal.

Funny, the places I frequent use the word to describe the particular art style of anthropomorphic animals with very distinct human aesthetics and behaviors, as separate from lycanthropes and "funny animals" - but what do I know, I only draw them. Anyway, regardless of that it's still a dumb reason not to make animal parts, for the same equating-all-anime-with-hentai reason I stated before. Yes, there's a lot of creepy furry porn out there; only an idiot would deny that - but given that our current game allows you to make a male character wearing fishnet stockings, leather straps, a gimp mask, and two nipple piercings, even put some bleeding whip lash marks on him, and not get banned for it, the argument that "Anthro body parts should not be allowed because they are suggestive of depraved sexual fetishes" seems pretty ridiculous.

All I can say is that the pack needs to include turtle head options and turtle shell as armor.

The pack might as well have Turtle Power if you're going that far, right?

Oh internet, how I missed this part. Yes, my statement was misworded there. I deeply apologize. Let me rephrase.

There's a difference between a "furry" and someone who likes anthropomorphic animal characters. Furries are those who sexualize their liking of anthropomorphic animal characters and gain sexual gratification from engaging in such behaviour.

Going to just quote this as it encapsulates everything I wanted to post.

The ignorance is just embarrassing and finding it "creepy" is immature. It isn't your taste. End of story.

Oh, and to channel by days in the now defunct PWNZ forums: "lol gamers ostracizing people for being weird and different."

What do you then call people who call themselves furries and don't "gain sexual gratification from engaging in such behavior"?

I think this comic sums up the furry issue quite nicely:

http://xkcd.com/471/

Yes, the fetish aspect of the furry fandom is weird as hell. Yes, there are non sexual aspects of the furry fandom. Yes, furries will use animal costume parts. And no, having animal features on your character does not automatically make you a furry.

It's a Costume Booster. We don't even know what's in it yet. Even if it is animal themed, is it honestly that big a deal?

More to the point, if the developers start claiming avoidance of fetish appeal as a goal, they lost that battle when they started making a game about superheroes.
I do love how people go 'omgzors do not want Furry!' and yet the game kinda already has some pretty deviant behaviour in it...so let me ask...you people are fine with...

A) Implied incest (Tyrant/Dominatrix).
B) BDSM (Silver Mantis, Dominatrix AND her minions...she has gimps as minions..I mean..come on people?).

Infact just look at the male 'straps' chest piece...leather straps with a nipple piercing...so somehow one odd behavior (BDSM) is considered fine and daddy but another (Furries) is somehow considered abhorrent?

that's not so. i used to think this as well, but that was because i had never met anybody that participated in these types of activities. i have since met a gentleman that does participate and we had discussion about it. he let me know that, yes there are people that enjoy the sexual aspect of it, but there are a lot of people that go to the same parties simply for the interaction with people that like to dress up like animals.

now, you might be saying that as far as most of the people who aren't "furries" use that term to mean the sexual side, but i now know that in their community it doesn't.

Furry can be expanded to fit almost anything or contract it to such a tiny minority it can be nothing but "creepy". There is a debate in Furry communities on just wear the line is, but it's far expanded beyond the "sexual deviancy" cult thing that is put upon it.

This is the case with just about everything... You either get super liberal definitions that make the word worthless and noone agrees with it or you get super constricted definitions that just about noone in the actual community agrees with and paints them in a bad light.

A lot of group labels can't be boiled down to a few essential qualities... and those that can a lot of them are misused so confusing the people who don't know anything about the label.
