City of Heroes 2 production starting, City of Heroes retirement

Would Deathkitten mind terribly explaining how the pic in the OP lead to the thread title?
There's a huge chunk of connections missing that would bridge from the picture to the title.

i can do the same quality of reporting too: [News item] Police Chief Huggins was annoyed by a mild cough that he blamed on the Mayor's secretary sneezing during a meeting last week. [Headline] OMG THE POLICE CHIEF IS GONNA MURDER THE MAYOR'S STAFF AND EAT THE MAYOR'S BRAIN!

Severe's post was pretty funny as well. Matching his writing quality to the quality of his assertions was a nice touch. A brilliant parody of classic semi-coherent doom posts. Bravo.

As far as I'm concerned, CoH2 is in the same category as Duke Nukem Forever.

Vaporware!

In other words, I'll believe it when I am able to load it up onto my computer and actually play it.

Just saying...

You wouldn't trust the word of a jury which had been threatened, so I see no reason to take the employee in this article so seriously.

although COH2 may never have some of these, either.

Anything else the devs have said that won't be in COH?

Moving hair?

Seriously, if CoH2 is ever made and has integrated opposing player factions, like WoW, I'd be there with bells on.

Actually, the latest rumor is that NCSoft will be teaming up with Cryptic again to produce CoH2 - the current working title for the game is "Jack Nerfem Forever"

I love how thrilled that cat looks.

My cat would have that thing off in two seconds, if you could even get it on her in the first place. My boyfriend's cat would look at you in confusion and worry.

Yeah. I think the people barking those comments need to go and take a look at the powerset themselves. They still move like bipedal creatures.

Uhm...I don't know any biped creatures other than Gorillas that move about using their knuckles. Just looking at the idle stance, the Ember Demon for one is sure as heck not using a standard rig, not from the way it stands or the way it moves.

They're still bipedal and using a variation of the Huge animations. It isn't an entirely new skeleton, it's just a model using some very sneaky techniques to disguise its base. A true quad-based animal would be far, far different and require a lot more effort to be convincing.

We have three character models, but there's actually a fourth character rig with a selection of animations and costume pieces for it. I don't know what the developers call it, but I tend to call it the Monster rig, because that's what it's used for in-game. It's used for things like the Hydra, the War Wolves, the different Clockwork princes and I believe the Robotics henchmen. Oh, and the Kheldian Crab/Lobster transformation. Currently, Demon Summoning Demonlings appear to use this rig, though on a much smaller scale. The monster frame is still bipedal, it's just more hunched-over and has shorter legs, a bigger torso and longer arms, so Demonlings are still bipedal.

From what I've seen, the Demon Prince uses either the regular standing animation or a variant of the Monster one. I still haven't seen the thing for real, so I can't say.

The Ember Demon and the Hellfire Gargoyle... Confound me. I honestly don't know which rig they use, because their stances, movement animations and power animations are custom and unique to them and them alone. As such, I can't actually tell which rig they're using since I can't spot the tell-tale idle stance for it. I THINK they use the Monster rig because they have those long, thick arms and those shorter, stubbier legs, but with so many kinks and double knees and angled hooves and claws, I honestly can't tell. Most of their animations are indeed quadrupedal, however, as they do move on all fours and tend to throw their powers with one hand and hunched over. They DO stand up from time to time, usually to have a psychiatric breakdown, but most of their time they spend on all fours.

That said, I'm not sure if we can count them as quadrupeds because they are still built such that most of their body weight is on the hind legs and they still have a biped torso. They're just hunched over and walk on their, uh... Hideous, mis-shapen claws. To be honest, though, I don't know what the precise definition of quadruped is, so I can't give a definite answer.

Actually as I recall a while back it came out they were looking to hire someone with experience in nonhumanoid animations.

Growth/shrinking powers, the game engine apparently can't handle it.

Actually, they do use a skeleton that players don't have access to, and unlikely to ever see.

Well either way the point's the same - they use existing assets, and are not quad-creatures as claimed. Their animations are knuckle dragging variations, which it isn't the 'all fours' style people actually want.

It could be like COH, but with:
Better character creator, with a lot more costume options. The best creator of any MMO with more options every issue and expansion already
Travel powers at an early level. Ninja Run
Lots more map options, that make sense. Going Rogue
A finely tuned graphics engine. Ultra Mode
The ability to Block during combat. Use Ignore, it's easier
Combat to be more interactive in general. It's called PVP
Maybe another bad guy group, or just expand the existing ones a bit. I think you'll find that's called "Going Rogue" - you may have heard of it

Actually, it should come as no surprise that the parent company, NCSoft, having already put money into the title, would continue to nurture and develop the future of the game, up to and including a second title of the same name.

I'm personally not fussed either way as to whether it is or isn't true, but if you're on a good thing, you stick to it. CoH was worth NCSoft's money and renewed investment in their eyes and to me a second game would not be surprising in the least.

Sets that got 'nerfed' that I can remember since I9:
Energy melee
Psionic shockwave from dominators psi assault, the rest of the set got buffed, still an overall aoe dps loss.
The 'nerf' to the to good to be true BotZ IO set. That isn't relevant to 90% of the playerbase because they didn't use it anyway.

Sets that got buffed:
Archery
Martial arts
mace
invulnerability
dark melee
Energy Aura
Electric Armor
katana
all dominator secondaries except psi
The complete blaster AT
The complete stalker AT
The complete dominator AT
Defender inherent
Heck ,even Rage got a functionality 'buff' when they removed the 'cannot affect others' effect from the crash.

I'm sure I'm forgetting some from both lists, since I'm going from memory, but I'm starting to see a trend here.
I don't count tweaks and rebalances on new powersets in the first few patches after their release. I also don't count bug and exploit fixes.
I'm really not seeing all the countless nerves done to this game in last few years, but that might be just me.
