Oh hey, Ghost Widow is in the banner, I never knew that!
Fury
There are no plans for retiring CoH. This game is still very robust and vibrant, and we're all very excited to be continuing its development.
As the Anniversary title stated, 6 years and going strong. |
Hey I've been away for a bit. Good to be back and start catching up. Wuddup peeps?

Speaking of vehicles in this game, the only way they'd be justified in my opinion is if each zone were the size of a Grand Theft Auto city, and had annoying traffic and pedestrians to match.
Can't come up with a name? Click the link!
The big thing I hope they don't change too much for CoH2 is the lore - I love all the enemy factions we fight right now, and I'd really like to see them - or most of them - carried over to the sequel, even they'd get changed a bit.

But I'd like to see:
Recluse killed off
Arachnos toppled and demoted to a normal enemy group so that the isles are truly 'rogue'
Get rid of the horrible origin of powers nonsense
A game is not supposed to be some kind of... place where people enjoy themselves!
*sits in rocking chair ... drools ...*
Gawds... Retirement Sucks!!
*squeezes back into his costume ... sorta*
GET OFF MY LAWN!!
Factions, yes. Many of them have excellent backstories.
But I'd like to see: Recluse killed off Arachnos toppled and demoted to a normal enemy group so that the isles are truly 'rogue' Get rid of the horrible origin of powers nonsense |
Lets take an example.
Freakshow:
Tank (Brute style AT).
Juicer (Corruptor style AT).
Meat Doc (Dominator style AT).
While the faction versions are much more strict on the powers you can take and your overall outfit (finally rework factions so instead of 95% of them being all male, make them male and female where it fits...heck the Freakshow have a lady second in command and disillusioned people aren't always males) you not only get to work your way up the organisation in SoA/Kheldian style story arcs for each faction but your faction has allies and enemies of its own.
Freakshow hated by (will act as kill on sight when spotting the player): Tsoo, Warriors, Family.
Freakshow neutral with (wont attack but will attack back if attacked): 5th Column, Council, Crey, Circle of Thorns.
Freakshow allied with (act like civilian NPCs and can't be attacked at all): None.
Yes for the love of all that's holy get rid of Arachnos as the 'top dog' faction, the 'Destined one' story line feels kind of...forced and constantly makes you play the lackey instead of the pro-active villain you should be (see new villain arcs for where they finally get the writing right for villains).
Recluse and Statesman die fighting each other (seriously Statesman is a massive Mary Sue of the previous owner and Recluse is just his evil twin). Arachnos falls into splinter factions since the Arbiters nolonger have power to stop the infighting.
Each enemy group gives Patron powers, if people want Mako patron powers they sign up with the Mako's faction. If people wanted Drek patron powers they sign up with the Freakshow etc.
Actually I'd like to see them go back with the original idea for City of Villains in that you could join the various factions. Take this a step further and build from the ground up that you can opt to be a member of a faction OR freelance as we are now.

So very, VERY this. Don't take away. But definitely ADD options! Making a Freakshow Tank? you have these powersets to choose from. Tsoo? These. It limits people who want to go outside of the standard classes, but gives them a unique opportunity.

There are no words for what this community, and the friends I have made here mean to me. Please know that I care for all of you, yes, even you. If you Twitter, I'm MrThan. If you're Unleashed, I'm dumps. I'll try and get registered on the Titan Forums as well. Peace, and thanks for the best nine years anyone could ever ask for.
Hmm more ideas on the whole factional groups, namely Freakshow as they've got a good example of a wide variety of types. Lets make use of the new branching technology.
Base ATs
Tank: You're so far gone with your obsession with cybernetically enhancing yourself that the only part of you that is actually you is your head and you're still figuring out ways to replace that.
Hit points: High
Melee damage: Medium.
Primary: Cybernetic Blades (lethal and a version of Claws instead replacing Eviscerate with Saw blade and replacing Focus with M30 grenade) or Cybernetic Hammers (Smashing, uses the same animations as Super Strength).
Secondary: Cybernetic Armor (variation of Invunerability but has an energy damage hole instead of a psionics hole).
Stunner:
Not as tough as your melee focused brethren but your control over electricity allows you to detain, fry or otherwise harm your foes.
Hit points: Low.
Damage: Medium.
Primary powerset: Electrical control.
Secondary: Electricity assault.
Champion:
While not as tough as your tank brethren the years of drug abuse has boosted your regeneration levels through the roof and your cybernetic arms make you a dangerous foe indeed. You're far more likely to keep going and lack the weakness to energy blasts suffered by your bigger metal brethren.
Damage: High.
Hitpoints: Medium.
Primary powersets: Same options as Tanks.
Secondary powersets: Regeneration.
Meat Doctor:
You're not as physically tough as most of your Freakshow companions but what you lack in physical strength you bring in medical prowess and cruel efficency.
Damage: low.
Hitpoints: Medium.
Primary powerset: Surgical training (a clone of Pain Domination).
Secondry powerset: Meat Doctor backpack (it's an amalgamation of the Crab spider backpack with abilities like Arm Lash, Frenzy and the Meat docs abilities like poison dart and Poison dart blast).

From those Base ATs each one can split off at level 24 into a more specialised area (like the SoAs can become Bane/Crab) or stick with their normal version (like SoAs who choose to use a Huntsman build).
Tank: Noise Tank (Sonic Blast, a variation on the crabspider style with Blast/Resist instead of Blast/Defense), Rikti Tank (Energy Melee), Shadow Tank (Dark Melee).
Juicer: Rikti Zapper (becomes Radiation Emission/Electrical Assault), Juicer Sniper (Electrical Blast/Electricity Manipulation).
Chieftain: Sneaky Freak (turns Chieftan from Scrapper to Stalker), Rikti Freak (becomes energy melee/Regeneration), Shadow Freak (Dark melee).
Meat Doctor: Chemist (changes primary to Poison), Radiologist (changes primary to Radiation emission).

Now while every group won't have as wider ranger of bosses and areas to specialise into (Malta for example all start out as Assault Rifle/Devices but can become a Dual Pistols/Traps Gunslinger or go completely out there and go Hercules Titan offers more AoE and resistance) and some can't specialise at all (Carnival Strongmen sadly can't specialise but they remain Mace/Invuln with Mask of Weakness thrown in at high level).
That's part of the fun though.
You need to put a thread in Suggestions and Ideas for this. Literally, this. And add more and more powersets as time passes. For Villains AND for Heroes >.>

1. Making tons of pools and archetypes would be too much work.
2. If some of those powers are useful, somebody might feel obliged to take a faction to optimize rather than because they want to.
I propose that such faction powers should be done as unlockable costume pieces and alternate animations, so you could, for example, make a toon with standard powers but animated or power customized as faction powers.

While that is kind of cool, there are 2 reasons not to do it:
1. Making tons of pools and archetypes would be too much work. 2. If some of those powers are useful, somebody might feel obliged to take a faction to optimize rather than because they want to. I have characters that are/were allied to;
-5th Column
-Nemesis Army
-Vanguard (Missing back and leg details)
-PPD SWAT
NPC options being 'locked out' is so much farm animal excrement ever since the Romans, Vanguard and the VEATs. I know a good number of players who would jump for joy with more NPC parts unlockable.
GG, I would tell you that "I am killing you with my mind", but I couldn't find an emoticon to properly express my sentiment.

Before I knew what CoV was like, that's the way I thought it was going to work - like instead of the origin contacts blue side, I thought you'd get to run low level missions for contacts from different factions, so you could find one that suitied you, and then you'd be able to pick the one you liked best and join them, and get bonuses and disadvantages based on their lore.
