City of Heroes 2 production starting, City of Heroes retirement

I think in all cases, people are just getting a bit over-excited.

The trademark was filed for, and it was accepted(to my knowledge).
However if Paragon Studios starts work on City of Heroes 2, do not expect it within 3 years. Because quite frankly, the game will need a new engine, new visual animations, new visual rigging, spell effects, game worlds. And lore to go into that game world.

I would not expect it anytime soon, Going Rogue is coming next month-ish, and then after that it goes back to normal issue updates. From there on, we will not know.

But in my opinion, I just think it was filed to block out other companys from trademarking it.

I'm guessing it amounts to more or less a list of some sort, some where of "wouldn't it be nice if..." features that never, or could never make it into this game due to time, man power or technical restraints, that they'd look over in the future for a sequel.

Someone may have already mentioned this, but Everquest is still going, even though its sequel Everquest 2 has been out since 2004. Hell, they're already in development on the next Everquest.

The only thing that's going to shut City of Heroes down is if enough of us stop paying for it.

The City of Heroes Community is a special one and I will always look fondly on my times arguing, discussing and playing with you all. Thanks and thanks to the developers for a special experience.

I was reading the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly section in this months Game Informer. They mentioned the console, or lack there of, versions for Cryptic's games. They then go on to say Cryptic has trademarked City of Heroes 2.

I had to write them and point out their error lol.

we'll see if gr is the saving grace of this game.if it isnt and i suspect its alittle too late then youll see a coh2 become that much more a reality.infact maybe thats what we need is a new game to peak the interest we had 6 years ago.i mean we all know if this game was "the best ever" we would be in the toliet for a playerbase now would we?..no!

Hiiii! *waves frantically* Reality is over here! With all your apostrophes! And look! It's a Shift key! :O

CoH is very far away from being in the toilet for a player base (unless that was self-depreciating humour, in which case, I'll admit you lost me a bit). NC doesn't keep games around that are even -headed- for the toilet. (e.g. Auto Assault & Tabula Rasa) Settle down, take your meds, and get back to playing!

The world is crazy. I offer this as proof; found on a butane lighter: Warning: Flame may cause fire.

Saw that, too. Granted, with the way the CoH2 trademark was reported by word-of-mouth, I can't really blame them for being on the tale end of the chain and getting it wrong. I mean, come on, you expect journalists and editors to do a 5 minute fact check on an easily-accessed government website? That's just silly.

I would not be surprised to see that Fulmens. The Palin's met through mutual infidelity.

I did, and I have to admit I can see where it is in doubt lol.

I think I will stick with my normal thought about these sort of things, and say they are none of my business, much less the general publics. What ever happens in their personal lives is their business as long as it is not illegal.

But back on topic, using the EQ analogy is not entirely accurate. With EQ1 and EQ2 there is a massively different game play as well as a huge catclysm that affects the world. I can't see Co* using that same route.

I would like CoH2 to be more or less an expansion... I know it may sound terrible, but if it is more or less just an update on graphics, engine, etc... have event separator, like the War Walls comnig down (which to do would require all the area of Hero side to be doubled consider all the area left over) and then just continue the story on in CoH2... and slowly drop support for CoH if you can't figure out how to make things backwards compatable. People who like CoX and have stuck with it this long are going to get CoH2 any ways so there is little reason to continue supporting CoH.

All you'd have to make sure everyone comes over is say something like all the booster packs come with CoH2 or you get all the vet rewards when you transfer over or something like that.

The kind of update that would be fiscally wise (for example, whole new game engine) would pretty much require being a new game. Integrating it with the current one would be unwise, in both a time- and money-spent manner.

Dec out.
