Quote:I am to young to be a granddad lol, and I started playing 2nd edition GW.I got it, its sorta a Pen & Card game, the cards represent random tech and random mutations. Also instead of a nuke based apocolypse, The Hadron Collider screwed the pooch this time out. Definetly not your granddad's gamma world.
Seriously though, I knew they would need to upgrade the story somehow. I like how there was mention of space travel in the 2nd edition. I remember one module that started in Arizona at a space port, and ended on a space station with space zombies.
Fun times -
Quote:Other than 3, I agree. I loved the films, and I missed the banter as well. Banter does not work well in a serious movie though.I mean, if you are going to go with "unconscious understanding of web fluid" it's not that large of a leap to "he gains web fluid."
Wasn't the web fluid formula his dad's, as well? I can see how having him design the fluid in the movies would slow down the pacing of the film/raise more questions: is he really that smart? How did he create the fluid (it is easier to explain "unconscious understanding" in a comic book, not in a movie)? If they tied it to his father, now you have to explain who his father was. How does he find the material to keep on replenishing the cartridges? Where does he keep the cartridges. And so on.
It is just easier, in a streamline sense, to make the fluid organic. I do wish there was more Spidey banter, though.
As for linking the web fluid to his dad, I do not know about that. Was this a relatively recent add on when they started going more into his parents? -
Quote:They also implied the web fluid creation was due to the change he underwent. He gained a unconscious understanding of the web fluid. The thing about the web shooters is that I have heard the other argument:
"Peter inventing them is so unbelievable since it is a substance that apparently no one else is able to reproduce, it made Pete into this supergenius. So if he was so hard up for cash, why doesn't he used that smarts to make money in the comics/movies? He should be on the level of Tony Stark based on what he is able to make the web fluid do and withstand. Pete being THAT smart and in his situation is a big stretch."
The reality of the comic is that Peter is really smart. His own modifications to his web fluid and the web shooters are good examples. And it is a wonderful question as to why he never took that skill farther, other than his responsibility as Spider-man interfering with his life. -
Quote:Right-o Memphis.Villains:
Different starter zone for those who *want* to start as a villain and not in Mercy Trash Heap/Rescued by Arachnos.
More contacts.
Heroes:
General content revamp. Some tweaking has already been done, to the Hollows, Faultline and the Posi TF. Just bring it up to date, freshen it up some.
Streamline the hero side content as well. Get rid of the pointless street hunts that some contacts give you. Get rid of missions to hazard zones and make some content for them. (I know that would take alot of time, and work.) -
Ok, did anyone buy this pnp game? I have been curious about some of the facets of the game, and I was hoping there would be some chatter about it.
What are the 'races' allowed in the game?
Are the mutations more in line with the first 3 editions, or more in line with the D20 and Alternity settings? (ie No fantastic mutations such as radiation eyes or sonic blast)
Is the game human centric where mutants are not allowed to use any hi-technology?
Are the humans secretly aliens that were trying to take over the world? (God that was a dumb story line.) -
Well we all suspected City Vault was dead, and the Incarnate system sounds like it will not be really for solo/duo players judging by what you said.
That's to bad. -
Quote:That's why I hated the No More Mutants stuff from Marvel when I read about it. To me, with their numbers, they are no more than metahumans. People should stop being afraid of a species going extinct. Then they throw the story arc hinted back in the 80's about all super heroes being registered.Well, most mutants could have vaporized anti-mutant mobs if they really wanted to.......XD
And with Civil War and all, anyone who had powers or worse a costume got to at last feel what the mutants had been feeling all of those years.
"Magneto Was Right!"
Meh. -
That jetpack is very cool. So was the flying squirrel suit as well, but that was strictly for parachutists.

Really what I found shocking about Superman's death was that it was caused by a relative nobody at the time. Sure, everyone knows about Doomsday now, but until then, the only comparison was the Shaggy Man, and I am not familiar enough with the character to say if it had enough power to actually harm Superman at all.
I am surprised OMD is not in there. -
I keep coming back, I can't say I stay constantly, due to the fact that there is no other game like this. The competition in the same genre does not do it for me, and I fell in love with this game at launch.
The reason I keep taking breaks, as the one I am getting ready to, is that my wife and/or I get bored of playing the game. The Halloween event really broke our stride this year.
I like the combat, and I love the travel powers. Sadly the crafting here is awful, as is the skill system, and the fact that most mobs are based of the same skeleton gets rather boring. I yearn to slay some animals at times I guess lol. -
Quote:And having watched that show, I was able to follow along perfectly. lolWell, let me tell ya, myself and billions of other MMO players the world over were absolutely CRUSHED when we learned that the latest project over there was not Days of Our Lives Online, and the rumors of a Spawn of Sami Special Edition (+15% to all Lying and Scheming powers) and a pre-order exclusive (for at least two weeks after launch) non-ridable Bo Brady motorcycle pet were all false. Probably just as well. With such a short development cycle it was a sure bet the DiMera Clan (PVP-centric) was going to be more or less just a placeholder until the 45-day patch and the Hortons and Alamains (both RPG-centric) weren't even going to be available at launch. Here's hoping someone out there in MMO-land will pick this IP up. It's a guaranteed hit.

Huh. Color me surprised. I would have thought there would have been more posting in this thread. *shrug*
Yeah, at times it just does not fit the characters, or even the campaign, but it is fun. -
Reminds me of boarding schools and kids in soap operas. The kids leave at 8, come back at 17 and start having sex with other people, all in 6 months.

This subject comes to my mind quite often, and Manofmancharacters thread about pnp rpgs really brings it to mind. I just did not want to steal that threads thunder.
First, the question. Do any of you look at a map in a video game, and think that would be a great location for your pnp rpg?
For example, there is the Oranbanga map where it's a huge rock pillar going both higher and lower than the entrance, and the lower half has parts of the ruins, while a stair runs up the center pillar with a beam of light coming out at the top. To me that would be a perfect map for an Underdark campaign.
Some of the things I want to do in pnp rpgs is start a base, or an outpost. You defeat the enemies in the haunted tower. You cleanse it, and realize it would be an excellant base of operations, and as no one owns it, it's all yours.
When I play video games that allow you to rescue a town, or clean it out, or give you a castle that expands and grows based on milestones in your game, to me, those are perfect ideas for pnp rpgs.
An old inn you take over. (M.Y.T.H. series for that one.)
An abandoned guard tower from an long dead ancient civilization that falls outside your kingdom, but close enough to trade with.
The abandoned desert city that was cursed, and you clean it out.
Even the ancient city inhabited by a group of 'people' that were never part of the original inhabitants, and they want to work with you to get the city going again.
The problem is the gamers I used to game with were never interested in that. Oh sure, they were happy to stay at an inn for 3 gaming sessions in a row, getting drunk, and never actually doing the stories that the GM had written. (The *&^$#%$*&^$%% never wanted to do the adventures I made, but they would never give me an idea as to what they wanted either. Personal pet peeve though. I was not the only GM they did that to.)
Anyhow, what does everyone think? -
Oh god if they did this, I would have to re-roll 3 toons that are devouring earth from another dimension.
-
My main would be like others in that she would be saying,
"Take me ouuutt!! I want to ki....arrest something. Honest, they are not real spikes... it is a mental illusion... Come on, not another day job... I have had this safeguard mission for two years now, let me arrest some carnies.
Open open open"
A couple of my toons would give up their life of crime, like their backstory hints at, and become heroes. A couple of my characters would realize that someone gets it. And at least one toon, a port from my pnp Champions days would be,
"So you are the a hole that got my father killed? For what reason? Why I am going to cut you down where you stand."
There is at least one, in the Cockroach villain group, that would be asking the same question as the wife's.
"Who is this Billy kid, and why do you hate him so much?" -
Some of my toons will fall under that catagory, most will not. My main will be a bit of a megalomaniac though. After doing the portal mission where she managed to kill the world in an attempt to take it over, she developed a bit of an ego.

Quote:There is no free speech here. It's their house, their rules.Draconian and a step backwards in basic free speech. What an absolute absurd rule. Whoever came up with it should be fired. Can't name anything else other than the game. Yeah. Good one.
I also find this comical since we don't know much about what is coming down the pipe for this game. Essentially we can all discuss and ask for things that never come out. We rarely get any replies regarding requests (Noble Savage is the rare exception - he is great at talking to the customer). We don't have any idea of what features we can expect down the road or where this game is heading in the next year or so. -
Quote:I know Warp. I tend to get my hackles raised when I read that X platform is better than Y platform. I read the article in Game Informer where the columnist was commenting on how he was waiting for phones to be the next video game. I doubt it will happen.I don't think anyone was trying to convince you to switch to PC. If you don't like it, don't use it. Consoles work just fine and have their upsides, particularly if you tastes run toward games that play well on a pad.
Using a phone as a video game/MP3/video device drains the batteries far to quickly. When you need the phone, you do not have it because you were goofing off. The controls are an issue and I can't see playing a game on a video screen that small using the controls on a phone. They are small enough as is, and for fine tune playing, they are inferior. Finally, most people want smaller phones with better range.
Of course there are the people that simply have no need to feel connected 24/7 to the web and their e-mail, and have no desire to pay those exhorbitant fee's to actually be able to do so.
In the end, it's a point of view.
I could be wrong for all I know...
But I could be right. -
I have not read the article, but I want to comment on the thread.
I do not, and never have liked PC game play. There are many reasons. I am not fond of American developers and their idea of story. I do not like shooters, and I was never fond of American RPGs. Graphics are also an issue. I found that graphics were better in my eyes with the consoles.
Now that I am playing MMOs for the last 8 years, I have found another issue with PCs. The constant need to upgrade them to see the newest games, now the latest DRMs are not only invasive, but offensive to me. I refuse to buy anything from UBISoft due to their recent idea, and I will not buy anything with SecureROM, even if it something I like.
Many of the popular games that are out there I never had the desire to play, and others, like Fallout, lost my interest once I realized it was a timed game. I don't like that.
My other issue is, PC games are shoddy. They push them out without worrying about all the bugs, and then you need to 'patch' them to fix their design failures. Just look at the Praetorian Halloween salvage contact. That was let through, even though it was a glaringly obvious problem. I have one of the DarkSun RPGs from a long time ago that I like, but I can't play due to needing to find the patches.
Overall, I am fine with plugging in a disc/cartridge and playing a game. I know that the latest console that I will own will play the games that are coming out. It's not like the PC is very backwards compatible either. In addition, it used to be that the PS had a very good variety of Japanese RPGs and games. Now days, they have very few of them. It's sad to see the latest American shooter instead of a new Japanese RPG, with the story lines I like.
PC games are not dying, nor are they a niche market. I can't say that overall I really want to buy them. I asked about Steam a month ago due to the fact that I do not own a 360 and there is a very popular American RPG that will be coming out for the PS3, but no word if the first installment will port over. I can deal with Steams DRM for the most part. I will look into it for this game... but I would be happier just to buy it on my console.
Now, this is a point of view. I am not wrong about what I like, not is anyone else for the most part, but I am not changing my mind just because someone shows me some technical data, or someone raves about the story line in some game. -
I think that the idea of 'region' servers should go away for all games. I mean, they hinder people from playing on more populated servers, and they hinder players from making friends with other people from other parts of the world. The language component is easily fixed. Other MMOs work with it.

As long as I have the option to pay the sub and have everything I get now, I would be fine if they used a F2P model on top of the paid sub. In fact, I wish they would bring back Auto Assault under a package deal. My wife and I agree if they did that, we would subscribe to the package deal and not let it lapse.
My problem when you combine the two is that 'free' content ceases to exist. It all becomes mini packs for free, and micro-transactions.
As for micro-transactions, what I view as a micro-transaction, and RMT, is very different that some people I think.
Our booster packs could be called micro-transactions, but I view them as mini-expansions. The difference being the content. The price is about right. Anything that costs more than the subscription IS NOT a micro-transaction. Looking at some of the other publishers, they need to get it through their head that $25 for a mount for 1 character per account is not micro, and it is not reasonable. THat, and the sheeple need to stop buying them.
Costume pieces for under $5 per account, or sets for under $5 per character is reasonable. To me that's micro.
RMT comes into being when they are asking me to pay exorbitant amounts for their fake cash to buy their goods from the store. Combined with the lack of micro in the micra-transaction, I get peeved quickly and avoid them. A costume set costs 750 of their cash. The exchange rate in real money is $6 for 500 "their-bucks" or $10 for 1000 "theirbucks", and there is not way to get change. Nor is there anything for 250 "theirbucks". That is a real money transaction, and with it, they conned me out of the extra money to get the set. I do not like it, I see it for what it is, and I wish other players did as well.
What they sell in content of their store matters to me, but I will have to come back to that later. -
Farewell Obsidius, and I hope you return. I am getting ready to take one of my frequent hiatuses (Hiatusi? Hiatus'?), come Nov 8th. My recent comments about the Halloween event aside, my wife is not been the in mood to play do to an illness, and we are both taking a bit of a break.
