The revamp to the Positron TF is long overdue, so I'm glad to see it come in. That it's now a multi-part TF feels odd at first blush, but maybe it will make more sense when I play it.

However, looking at things I'm personally interested in and will do, I see the Posi TF, the two new hero arcs (so: 8 missions) and running around getting the new exploration badges. Which will be what, 4 or 5 hours of play time for my main? (Also, retconning the Posi TF to now include 'dark mirror' opponents seems off to me, but we'll see how it appears in execution.)

I'll appreciate the new graphics and being able to hold more missions (but 7 seems as random as 3 ;-) but none of the QoL things really thrill me. Animated tails? Glad other people are excited by it, but I just don't care.

That said, I recognise that I17 is a prep issue before GoRo. Get some of the kinks ironed out with Ultra Mode and some of the QoL updates before GoRo appears on shelves.

Oh, and I wonder if emailing inf is suddenly going to make the gold spammer's life that much easier. Sure, it will be monitored, but in the initial flurry of its use it is going to be hard to sort out legitimate from illegitimate use.
Well, it could be worse. We could have not gotten an update AT ALL until Going Rogue.

In the end, not everyone is happy with every issue. As cool as Issue 11 and 12 were, some people still did not like them. But, the surest way to failure is attempting to please everyone at the same time.

If it hasn't already been said, my money is on a 'mirror image of yourself' sort of setup. I bet the AI reads your powerset combination, and you are 'mirrored' and fighting yourself. The quote they put in along with it seems to indicate something like that, as well as their comment about 'matching your character blow for blow.'

But yeah, the QoL stuff in this issue is stuff that should have been done LONG ago. Emailing money? Check. Thank GOD! This they should've done when they bumped the amount of influence you could transfer in one sitting up from 100k. 7 missions? I want to be sure that you can open more than 3 arcs at a time, but if that goes along with it, then this is a definite plus. Although, it could lead to a lot more OLD missions hanging around in your queue. But overall, I'm excited, and hope that they'll continue to add in content to go along with the QoL stuff.

Basically too many 50's to count, but I'm generally a brute/scrapper/tank kind of guy.

I like the ( wild ) speculation someone mentioned in another thread; that the "Dark Mirror" enemy will be the Blood of the Black Stream in game at last. Black/Oil=Dark, shapechanging = Mirror.

I'm so glad they decided to revamp the Positron TF. As the intro to TFs for CoH, it really shouldn't be as horrifying as the old version. It's also nice to have the worst stop on the way to the Taskforce Commander badge be replaced with something more fun.

Everything else looks great, too. I'm not into anthropomorphs with tails (I have a chicken, a werewolf, and a bug), so I probably won't get anything out of that, but I'm glad to see it as an option.

I can't wait to try out the QoL improvements. I'll also give the AE a second go, as the amount of unique maps, lack of experience for custom enemies (I'm not trying to affect balance, I just want certain powers without being forced into Build Up or Rage, which no official mob has, and for good reason), and "lead to place" option for escorts are things I wanted.

In regards to complaints about lack of content: sadly, the insistence from many players on side-specific content has a lot to do with this. Issue 5 gave us five 5-mission arcs (I'm not counting "defeat 10 whatsits") with mostly simple tech aside from two missions, and the shortest TF in the game. This issue, we're getting four 4-mission arcs, and (yes this is part speculation) the equivalent of 2 new TFs to replace the old Positron TF. I think that's very close, content-wise, but it looks small because in Issue 5, everyone got all of the arcs and the TF. With split content, each character only gets half the arcs from this issue, and only the heroes get the TFs.

I wish there was less resistance to cooperative content. The two villains in this game that make the most sense for cooperative content, more than Romulus or even the Rikti, are Hamidon and Rularuu. I say this because neither can be bargained with and both will destroy the world, the perfect setup for villains and heroes to team up, yet neither is cooperative. I think an Issue 10 style revamp of the Shadow Shard in issue 18, 19, or 20 with revamped, cooperative TFs and some GR style "shades of grey" arcs to appeal to both heroes and villains would be great.

Sorry for the tangent. Please don't take it as a comment on Issue 17. I think it looks fantastic.

I wonder if the revamped Positron TF is part of a plan to revamp all the lower level content?
They said at Hero Con that they wanted to create a new entry level experience with GR, but it'd make sense for them to update the 1-20 CoH and CoV content too - maybe in I19/I20?

You just blew my mind.

There are no words for what this community, and the friends I have made here mean to me. Please know that I care for all of you, yes, even you. If you Twitter, I'm MrThan. The other problem aside from the length is that the enemies stack dangerously as spawn size increases, and players tend to want to have 8-member TFs, because they think that will make it easier, not harder.

If it was Hellions/Skulls, Outcasts/Trolls, etc, it wouldn't be so bad. But you get 8 people in a Positron TF, and you're getting heavy endurance drain from Clockwork (probably the least worrisome of the three groups involved) and big toxic alpha strikes from Vahzilok.

The worst is CoT, though. At level 15, you get spawns with 2 Ruin Mages, Spectral Demon Lords, and a bunch of spectral demons. This means heavily debuffed ToHit values, 2 Dispersion Bubbles, 2 Earthquakes, Dark/Psi damage coming at you and plenty of resistance to smashing and lethal. It's a death sentence at level 15 for many team makeups that aren't very experienced, especially for melee ATs.

These situations really shouldn't be in the first TF in the hero game. Tarikoss isn't remotely like that.

Having _only_ played for two years, I sometimes wonder if it's possible I'll see all the content. At least blue side

I'm going to miss the Posi TF as it stands now ):

Wont be upset to get rid of my VG supercomputer that required so much stuff just to run the SM SF.

More acclodae power that will be pretty easy to acheive (exploration): mixed feelings about that.

To be honest... as long as you can e-mail Inf... you can e-mail "anything". Since Inf is the "money" of this game... you don't have to mail someone that new chair that they want, you can just send them the cash so that they can buy it themselves.
Except redside. Still can use SG bases for enhancements to swap anyway.

I don't suffer from altitis, I enjoy every minute of it.

Thank you Devs & Community people for a great game.

So sad to be ending ):

In-Game E-mail: You can now use in-game e-mails to send Influence/Infamy to your own characters or to other players' characters via in-game e-mails. (You still cannot send Influence, Infamy, or items from a Hero to a Villain or vice versa.)

I like the animated tails, and I've posted my opinions of the badges in the badge section of the forums.

Not only the clue "match you", but the horrendously misused* scripture quote "I shall see face to face", and the title of the Issue, "Dark Mirror." This is more than an archnemesis, it's a version of you (shape shifter or Praetorian) -- which is just a guess, but a reasonable one. I'm sure it follows the standard clone law of comics which states that when you meet your clone you must battle to the death.

*Not complaining, it's a staple of the genre. The original intent of St. Paul in that quote is seeing God face to face. And seeing through glass darkly is our limited perception of God from our earthly and human perspective. And knowing fully as I am known means coming into the fullness of perfect perspective of God when we get to heaven just as God fully knows us now. But don't let any of that ruing the mystique of the quote .

Strangely enough, although I don't expect to ever use it, I think the Positron TF revamp is the most important part of I17. Letting that blight of a TF sit unchanged for years was one of the dumbest moves the devs ever made, in my opinion. (I blame the producer. That kind of thing is always the producer's fault.) It's the first TF for the heroes, and first impressions count for a lot. It's a great thing to change for new players... although it's worthless for me.

Ultra Mode - I have no real interest in this. I'll probably turn those features off, because I value performance over improved shadows and reflections.

Animated Tails - I have a character who could really use one of those.

New Badges: Wow, exploration badge glut. I thought my list was huge enough already. You don't seriously think I'm going to waste my time running around for those, do you? Because of course I will.

In-Game E-Mail: I used to require all my characters to be self sufficient, but dual builds have left some of my characters gasping for inf. Yes, I will use this feature.

Increased Mission Count: I could really have used this five years ago. Nowadays I usually only have one or two missions in my list, thanks to the mission dropping feature. Still, I might find a use for it.

Overall, it's looking like a great issue. No big feature (like a new zone), but Lots of new stuff to play with.

I wish we could do that, I really really do. But I don't think we're quite at that level of supporting that sort of thing yet. If I had my way, we'd get there eventually (if I had my way we'd get there at gun-point).

I'd be interested in fighting myself as an AV level...but then again a heavily IO'd level 50 DM/SD/Blaze scrapper AV...ouchies.

i got to disagree with you here, i do think they got of there butts this time for an issue.. for me snice issue 13 to 16 were well OMG what a waste of time and im not like the road this game going down ATM.

this issue has seem to come back on track to a point. there no Base downgraded into stupid and mean nothing. no badge removel or down graded. it seem that it become some what fun again and not let rip your heart out on stuff you loved

I think you're once again setting the bar too high. If you look at a game like WoW and how they do their end game, people play that for years because they periodically raise the level cap and create new carrots to chase after. It takes so much grinding to get all the epic gear you need that by definition you'll be chasing after the loot for months. Once you have your gear you keep grinding to get the gear for your guildmates. Once you all have it you buy the dandy new expansion and you start the treadmill over again, right?

Our devs have already said repeatedly there will be no level cap increases for CoH. Our power and enhancement system aren't conducive to that. They're going to create a means of powering up our characters that is as of now unannounced (although my money is on the Universal Enhancement Slots idea from the old August '08 marketing survey). Unless they create new "bind on pickup" tech that will make people grind content repeatedly for rare drops, it's hard to imagine an end game that will last for months, let alone years.

I'll be overjoyed to be proven wrong, of course.

one good thing that could come from ultra mode for CoV, that it might brighten the place up abit for the people think it way tooo dark looking and might jump the war wall and play the good side.. the villain side

i bet some of you know a friend or two that said CoV is too dark for my liking or something of that type

Posi was the first I ever attempted, back when a number of friends and I started playing (I'm the only one still at it). We were doing it in sessions, which I think was the original intention for TFs. We had gotten through a good amount of it when some odd TF bug popped up that made it impossible to resume in-progress TFs. We didn't bother starting over.

edit: looks like Sardan and Zombie Man beat me to the multiple sessions point
