Issue 17 Overview
Oh, hey... how 'bout them animating tails? Aren't they just swell?

I like the new Forum PvP they're adding in Issue 17
And while I know that Jay is sexy, etc., etc., I know jet packs have been near the top of the costume request list for (literally) years. Not that I won't be getting some mileage out of animated tails (especially my namesake character), but jet packs as a costume piece would not have required a new skeletal rig to connect up. Clipping can't possibly be an issue, since tails will (and currently do) clip with capes. It just boggles me as to why packs haven't been added as a costume option after so much time.

We all have things we want in the game, some of them rather badly. But we dont go on and on and on about them. (Ok, some people do. They tend to be the ones with red rep that, suprise surprise, aren't too popular)
I, for example, could harp on about how bases need love and attention, how unfair ir is that tech has so few items, how we can't have Blast/armour ATs despite it not seeming impossible to balance them, how bug that have been here for 6 years are still here, graphical errors...
Etc. Now, take that post and multiply it by about twenty, over all sorts of different threads. I can assure you, it gets old really fast.
Oh, and I really couldn't care an iota less about what people think about me RPing. I like RP. So do many other people on Union. If theres some problem with my playstyle...*shrug* And, before you leap on that, no, I have no problem with your playstyle. I still don't know you from adam, and you can play however you choose.
It's the whining I take issue with. Although I don't know why I'm still having to explain this, when the ignore feature has already saved my sanity a few more points.
GG, I would tell you that "I am killing you with my mind", but I couldn't find an emoticon to properly express my sentiment.

Hey, Issue 17 has some really keen stuff in it, so let's talk about it! WHEEEEEEE!
Please? Can we just discuss I17-related stuff and leave our personal opinions of certain posters, if we have any, out of this thread?
Positron: "There are no bugs [in City of Heroes], just varying degrees of features."
Obsidious, UnSub and Perfect_Pain all said that they didn't care much for the announced features. But some people singled out Perfect_Pain for personal attacks.
I don't agree with their opinions. I like most of the announced features. I didn't start an arguement with any of them because in my opinion, it is stupid to argue with an o p i n i o n.
And don't be patting yourselves on the back for being a 'nice community' when you are launching personal attacks against someone because you don't like her attitude. If you don't like her attitude, ignore her. That she annoys you doesn't justify insulting her.
Auction House: The UI gives you new options for sorting search results, your Auction House inventory is now separated by clearly marked tabs based on the item's status, the Auction House text entry box now autocompletes, and a single click on a recipe displays all salvage needed for that recipe. |
The QoL features have me happier than anything else really.
If THESE forumites are being mean... I wonder how PP and her hubby deals with the REST of the internet?
My turn. I didn't find out about this until midway through an ITF last night, so I apologize for being late to the party
- Epic archetypes are now unlocked at level 20.
- Animated character tails.
- New missions, new badges, and new player emotes.
- Quality of life enhancements to the UI and game systems.
- Improvements and additions to Mission Architect.
Silver Mantis Strike Force Update: The Silver Mantis Strike Force will now be available to all Villains, not just supergroups. You now can access the Silver Mantis Strike Force via Silver Mantis, located in Sharkhead Isle. You can also run this Task Force from your supergroup computer. |
Positron Task Force Update: This Task Force has been split into two halves and dramatically upgraded and updated to ramp up the fun. The final battle of the Task Force takes place in the Faultline Dam and incorporates the new Dark Mirror enemy. |
Craftable Temporary Powers: You will now have a much cleaner and more consistent way of finding and crafting temporary powers. |
What will be done about the current ones? Will the empowerment stations be getting "looked at"? This is smelling like that salvage revamp
Increased Mission Count: You can now have seven active missions (previously three). |
That's cool
Show Last Objective: This UI improvement lets you find your last objective on a mission map, making it easier to find something you've missed. |
YAY! but will it show you that last pesky critter that is stuck in a wall?
Auction House: The UI gives you new options for sorting search results, your Auction House inventory is now separated by clearly marked tabs based on the item's status, the Auction House text entry box now autocompletes, and a single click on a recipe displays all salvage needed for that recipe. |
This concerns me. Often, I am subjected to huge lag spikes, disconnects and crashes when I visit the market. With the new UI changes, is anything being done about the existing bugs?
In-Game E-mail: You can now use in-game e-mails to send Influence/Infamy to your own characters or to other players' characters via in-game e-mails. (You still cannot send Influence, Infamy, or items from a Hero to a Villain or vice versa.) |
I am pretty impressed on the whole, now where is a link to GR Pre-order???
"Sorry bucko, but CoH and CoV are the same game." -BackAlleyBrawler
"Silly villain, CoX is for Heroes!" -Saicho

That's why. PP has participated in plenty of threads where there's been no attacks. The attack here is because of the loose-with-the-facts-and-reality nature of her posts, not because she has an opinion. I agree the debate should stick to the content of her posts and not the person, but it's hard to do when the person does the same thing over and over again. It's a self-poisoned well.

Why does this thread have "youth in asia" as a tag? Is there something I should know?
(Yes, I know I'm not technically "youth" anymore. But I'm still in the right geographical area, and fantastical escapism is always fun.)

You know, for a YEAR whenever people talked about Euthanasia I thought they actually WERE talking about "youth in Asia" because I'd never had the term explained to me...
...it was very confusing wondering why all these Asian people were dying all the time and why people in America were talking about it so much....
I've noticed that it's generally futile, unless there is actual mod intervention, to request that people not discuss a topic.
Taking this thread as an example, the Issue 17 information has a certain amount of discussion value, and it has garnered said discussion. But after a time, there isn't much more to say: you say your piece, you talk about it some, but unless we get even more official information, that's the end of the matter.
However, personal attacks are more, well, personal, even when phrased in a general way with "you people" or suchlike. As such, readers will feel that the message is directed towards them specifically, or other people they consider friends, or others "on their side". Therefore, we feel the need to respond.
Personally I think that it's quite fascinating, and I'd like to probe more into the sociological causes behind this, but I know I cannot do so, since on a forum like this, there is no guarantee that what I am told will be the truth. Especially on a public forum, where flippancy and attempts at humour seem to be the default reaction, due to the idea that posting a message is a performance, above and beyond simple communication of information and facts.

Part of my lack of excitement about I17 is that I don't really see some of the QoL fixes as that interesting and because I've learned to wait-and-see what the execution really is rather than be too thrilled by the promo descriptions.
As an example, I really like trenchcoats in-game, but for many they will always be buttcapes. Or how excited everyone got over the 5th Column coming back in a TF, but when the issue actually came out there was a pretty cold reaction to that content.
But in all reality: I17 shouldn't contain all the good stuff. For that, there will be GoRo.
(And yeah, I'm hoping the Blood of the Black Stream make an appearance since they are the non-existent group I'm most interested in.)
Having been in exactly this position, I've learned that a bit of situational awareness and a bit of flexibility go a LONG way.
