How Many Really Use the Valut Room or Vault Reserve?
There are Vault buildings red and blue side. I frequent the ones in CAD and Talos due to their locations near the Wentworth's / Black Market.
I mostly use these for storing expensive, rare salvage for recipes. If I have a surplus of one type, I can sell it to offset the cost of bidding on what I need.
There's a Vault in every city zone that has a Wentworth's, I believe. They're marked as green dots on your map.
I use mine for storing orange (rare) salvage and sell of the whites and yellows unless I know I'll need one or it's semi-valuable. But it's nice to get a recipe drop and realize that the 2,000,000 inf salvage piece you need for it is sitting in the vault.
Storage racks in superbases serve the same purpose although they may not be "secure" if you're worried about only you getting to use your stored salvage. Great for trading it with other characters though.
I've used the vaults in the past, when crafting for myself. I mostly just assembly line for cash and load my toons with SOs.
The Atlas Vault is near the sewer entrance, to the left of it. if you were going down the sidewalk that runs past Went's and AE, and kept going that way, it would be the second building...hmm...Well, it's on your map anyway.
SC's is very close to Wents. Head out the back and run on the wall-side of the buildings behind it toward the train. You'll see it.
They are all the same, so if you put stuff in Atlas it will be in SC.
I just wish there was a place to store enh and recipes.
All my toons use the Vault Reserve almost as soon as they start picking up salvage. It's an extra place to store salvage for later use in crafting enhancements so I don't have to keep buying what I need from the market or waiting for new drops.
It is toon specific. There's a Vault Reserve building in a number of zones, and the location is marked on the in-game map. Paragonwiki should have a list of zones that have them.
I'll start using them when the devs change them to be account based storage for enhancements, recipes, inspirations and inf.
Be well, people of CoH.
I mostly use it for storing rare salvage that I might want later. Common and Uncommon salvage I dump in my SG's base racks unless I have an immediate need for it.
So, in a nutshell, can anyone give me some other beneficial tips on using the vault reserve other than just holding your goodies?

Anyway, except for 1 character, all of mine use the Vaults to some extent.

I believe the vault reserve also links to in-base secure salvage storage (the big vault looking thing).
Account wide recipe/enhancement/salvage WOULD be really nice.
I think about the fact that players can trade with each other and wonder how being able to trade with myself would somehow be any different?
I always liked having account-wide storage available to my characters in Guildwars.
All of my toons use the Vault to one extent or another for storing excess salvage.
I place lower bids early in the toon's career and just wait for them to eventually fill.
Then I put the salvage away in the vault until I actually need it. That way I can usually
avoid most of the "buy it now" overpricing.
Of course, I use the vault access in my base and not the vault reserve buildings (or Pocket-D)
The base access and the reserve buildings/pocket-D access are the same storage area.

I have a solo SG and use my base vault to hold all rare salvage for enhancement crafting on all my alts. When I need a particular piece of salvage and the toon with the recipe doesn't have it, I log the appropriate toon, take it out of the vault, put it in a salvage rack, log the recipe holding toon, take it out of the salvage rack, craft recipe, and voila! I've saved some influence (usually quite a bit).
There's not a rare piece of salvage that I don't have stored somewhere on some toon. I used to use AE tickets for purchasing them but 540 tickets each was a little steep IMO. Now I just use tickets for uncommon salvage when necessary and I can't find it dirt cheap in Wentworth's.
I use the Vaults all the time. Although, I seldom use the Vaults out in the City. I mostly use the Vault appearance in my Bases since they're closer to the Invention table that are also in my Bases.
I use the Storage Racks in my (personal) Bases to hold the expensive IO Salvage, which can then by accessed by any of my characters. Of course, the Storage Rack can only hold 30 pieces, so any extras go into the Vault. I also keep a small supply of non-rare, yet occasionally hard to come by, commonly used IO salvage.
Most of the time each of my Character's Vault is full. I don't see any point in not keeping it full. IO Salvage periodically spike up in price and often times, I'm not aware of it until I read it on the forums or I need it for crafting. I'm too much of a cheapskate to pay buy-it-now prices, so having a few on hand reduces wait time.
Teams are the number one killer of soloists.
I only use the vault to store salvage needed for empowerment buffs, since the price on some of them can fluctuate wildly at times.
Since I have my own solo base, I don't have need of it to store rare salvage. It would be very inconvenient to have to be crafting on one character, only to find I'd have to log into another in order to get a specific piece of salvage. At that point I'd just get it at the buy it NAO price instead.

I have used the vaults in the past.
These days all my characters treat the market as a storage device.
I sell salavge 'near' the top end of the range, and buy it later if needed at a 'patient' price, so usually I even gain inf by 'storing' on the market.

WRT the OP: When I first started outfitting all my high level toons with IO sets, I definitely used the personal vaults to hold onto every bit of salvage I could. Now that they're IO'd out, the salvage storage racks in my personal base is sufficient to hold my rare salvage. I do sell off any rare salvage I already have 2 of.

I stopped using them when I had a SG base and salvage racks.
I started using them again when I ran out of space on the storage racks.
The salvage storage racks in personal bases work exactly like this supposed game-breaking mechanic. |
Although yes, you can eliminate the risk by having two accounts. I think the devs are fine with the cost of another game purchase and the cost of at least one month of subscription offsetting the... ahem... exploit.
I mainly use the Vault when I log onto a character I haven't played in a while to join a TF, say Citadel, for example, and I discover that I haven't sold off all the salvage that dropped on the last TF - oops!
So I go dump stuff that I will want to keep in the conveniently located Vault in Talos, to be picked up after I finish the new TF.
Yes, I frequently don't immediately go deal with the drops I get on each & every alt - sometimes, I am ready to log off (long day of play), sometimes, I'm just being lazy. But with 60+ alts, I frequently store salvage on the character to be used by my crafters for each SG (I have 5 in all). I'm sure that made someone twitch when they read it

So wait, you're saying the reason we can't have personal storage is because there's no risk vs reward?
Dispari has more than enough credability, and certainly doesn't need to borrow any from you.

I suspect that there was a risk / reward factor involved when the SG base storage was put together. I don't actually know that for certain. It just seems like the most logical reasoning that I can piece together based on how the system works and how the development team was behaving at the time of inception.
I use the Vault a lot, mainly to store invention salvage drops that I know I will be using shortly to craft the common IOs I'm planning to slot at level 12 and 27. Well the ones that are currently going for a pretty penny at the market.

As I was hopping through Pocket D, I just happened to wander into the Vault Room. I had to ask myself, "why I never used the Vault?". My first thought was if I plopped a bunch of Invention Salvage in the Vault, and then signed on with another toon on the same server, would I still have access to the Salvage from my other toon who put it there? Me thinks no as the inventory is exclusive to that toon only.
My second question would be when do you think it would be advantageous to plop stuff in the Vault? I guess if you were crafting recipes for enhancements and such, it might be a good place to store the extra goodies? Also, since we are only given a limited slot inventory to hold this stuff, I am also thinking this would make a good "back-up" storage spot. My market philosophy so far has been to sell the items I don't need, or use the items to build some new invention sets that I can sell for a nice profit. Thus, I am constantly "moving" stuff around at the markets.
So, in a nutshell, can anyone give me some other beneficial tips on using the vault reserve other than just holding your goodies? If my other toons had access to the same vault then I would start to really re-think this one. Paragonwiki really didn't go into too much detail except to mention the amount of spaces you would get with each level. They also mentioned a "Physical Vault Building", one on the Hero side and one on the Villain side which I cannot recall ever seeing. Did they remove the Vault Buildings and just keep them in Pocket D?
