Play on East Coast Server? Have lag? POST HERE!

Playing on Liberty. I am experiencing lag on animations, powers, and blinking NPC's and PC's.

After time, I end up crashing. All in all it amounts to a few crashes every session.

I hope it is fixed relatively soon, as I am about to consider it unplayable (imo) and head back to more relatively stable environs.

I don't have remotely any similar occurrences happening in any other game.

If you notice lag, you can type /netgraph 1 and it will display the netgraph. If it has a lot of red spikes, there is a problem. So here's the format and maybe we can determine what is going on, support blames the ISPs as a problem... yet my other games run just fine and the west coast servers do too.

LOCATION: Phoenix, Arizona
ISP Provider: Cox Cable Internet
Problem: Lots of red spikes, delays in animations, etc.
Ditto on everything, same on: location, provider, problem. I have other friends not on the forums experiencing the same.

* Arachnos Loricatus: Soldier, Widow
* Praetoria Loricatus: B-DP/Dev, Cor-Elec/Elec

And... in case it helps:

LOCATION: Capital District area, upstate NY
IS Provider: Fairpoint Communications
Problem: Lag, teammates appearing to bounce around maps, NPC's appearing to bounce around maps, delays in power animations or power animations not displaying at all, LOTS of red spikes on the netgraph, in between which are a fairly short green "lawn" look... but a SERIOUS amount of red spikes ... i.e., dropped packets, right?

I'd suggest that you read the response that Noyjitat posted back on 8/18 in this very thread. You know, the one where NC's tech support team stated what the problem is and that they're working to get it cleared up as soon as they can.

Let's see you try to track down and resolve an Internet routing issue in the blink of an eye with a provider that isn't yours, directly.

Furthermore, who's acting like a "1st grader" here: The people working indirectly to get a network/routing issue resolved or the impatient player that can do nothing but insult the company whose service is being provided and resort to labeling this as some kind of blame game?

You can try /netgraph 0

I have been after NCsoft for a long time now about their networking issues and being I am going into the field of this profession I know what the processes are to find issues. Off the block accusing and misinformed technicians putting fault onto other sources because they cant read their data correctly is not what I expect.

Even other professionals I talked to had the same opinion i have.
Quote:
Whoever you talked to at NCsoft does not know how to read traceroute data. First of all, I don't understand why the graph gaps conflict with the trace text around PL%. Hop 7 shows no loss on the text side.

Second, and an important rule, if a middle hop shows loss, but following hops do not, the middle hop can be ignored. This is called ICMP rate limiting and also perfectly normal. It does not cause performance issues on packets passing through the router.
After a month of looking into the issue and all I have heard is "We are looking into the issue" is not really inspiring. At least you could provide what data you know is true and what might be the suspect of the problem. I'm just looking for "We examined our routers and gateways with ICMP, TCP and UDP packets from both ends and have not seen any issues." That would make me happy.

Just got an entire team broken up over this on Freedom. Had a nice 8 person team and about half of them got booted off while the rest of us were barely able to play. The mobs were actually disappearing the lag was so bad. We finally just gave up.

Went to Virtue...no problem as usual. This is a beating since I spend 95% of my time on Freedom.

so has anybody received any updates from support on this issue? and is it still persisting to be a problem?

I haven't been able to log in to check as my video card fried and my new pc is due tom sometime while my old pc is on the way back to manufacturer.

It still isn't fixed. Here is the follow up:

Quote:
As a further update on this issue, we've confirmed that this is a routing problem with one of our peer ISPs (PCCW). Our Network Engineering Team is in contact with them and is working to clear up the issue as quickly as possible. As far as technical support is concerned, we've done as much as we can and this is now incumbent upon PCCW to resolve.

In the meantime, we'll just need to be patient until this problematic ISP can resolve its connectivity issues.

If you have any questions or concerns please let us know

I did the netgraph test and got some interesting results. As I play on three servers (Liberty, Pinnacle, and Virtue) and didn't seem to be experiencing these problems on Virtue and saw very different netgraph results for Virtue. I decided to look at all the servers. The results are eye opening and clear.

On a Dell Dimension 5100C 3 MB RAM Windows XP using Comcast Cable in Baltimore MD:

PS: I'm sick of Support blaming this on user hardware. I have a friend who also plays on Liberty who is quitting the game because of this. Several who have severe problems because of this and are now betaing CO (and liking it). This needs to be fixed soonest so we can all get back to playing on our home servers and not on an alternate west coast server (or CO beta).

PPS: If I could I would put up pictures of netgraphs for each of these servers just to show the disparity. It's HUGE.

That's downright discouraging. Half the game population is stuck with a lousy connection and Paragon Studios can't fix it because it isn't their problem.

Glad to see the issue is being looked into and hope it can be resolved for us soon. A little late but I thought I'd post anyway.

I have exactly the same issue as all others that started before XXP

Any new word on this?

Went to play on my main server, Liberty...where I have all my stuff, and promptly lost connectivity as soon as I clicked a power inside a mission.

Netgraph was almost solid red/yellow.

I started on Champion...and gotta say...I am not too into trying to rebuild what I have on Liberty.

I am not going to pay to transfer those characters.

I am not going to rebuy character slots on champion.

I am not going to continue playing if this is not going to change. Thats not a threat, I would not do that. It is simply the reality of the situation.

I just came back...I have only been back a month...I got my desire to play back but that isn't enough.

I need to be able to play as well, lol.

Man, I hope this changes soon.

kk, done venting...I feel a bit better :P

Sadly no, I've stopped playing until this is fixed. Its very sad

Calling NCSOFT help tomorrow to complain. If I can't play for a month cause of their B.S. then I want a month free!
LOL, good luck with that.

FWIW, I do sympathize. My brief forays to Freedom recently have made me appreciate Justice as my home server all the more.

But the "I deserve a free month of service" argument is a complete non-starter, and not likely to help your case with NCSoft Customer Service.

a free month to those of us heavily effected might be a bit much but it would make me feel alot better about having a brand new pc crash 4 times during an itf. as it currently stands the only thing I can reliably do on an east coast server is work the market and team with a max of 2 or three people on the team.

Ran a stf last night and several of us including our tank would crash at the worst possible time. losing your tank when he is flippin off recluse so we can take the towers down is annoying to say the least. While we were able to finish it it took way longer than we normally run it. even accounting for the bugged repairmen

Oi vey.

I figured it would be good for me to submit a support ticket on this before my sub expires on the 2nd. The response I recieved was not too encouraging.

On the off chance that posting a copy of that email is against forum rules, the basic gist of it was this:

At this time we are still working to resolve the issue and do not have an update yet as to when it will be fixed.

I think they would have a timeframe or something if they had an idea of what was going wrong.

/sigh

I sent back a reply that it might benefit their sub numbers if they sent out a mailer when they finally do fix it...

Oh well. I guess I don't have to let my EQ2 sub end after all...since I want to have something to play...
