I'm laying my house (I don't own my house), my car (I ain't got one) and ALL my money (Skint due to Booster packs) on an early to mid December release.

The time frame of the Beta testing feels right for it plus SURELY they won't miss out on all the X-Mas (Sorry, "Winter Event" :s) sales???

B/c as a veteran we have the experience to give some valid feedback on a new issue/expansion pack of the game. We've seen the game from the very beginning and have lots of experience playing all along the way. I think this is great and a great way to keep vets interested in the new features as some of us get bored with the same stuff since we've been playing so long.

The other criteria are also a good way to keep people subscribed to the game so that when the "won't be named" competition comes out, we don't see a drop in paying players here at CoX.

I'm only veteran for 43 months because I had to stop playing for 1 year but i'm software tester. Maybe i'll be a better beta tester than someone who's been paying for 5 years and not necessarily playing the game.

Just making a point, not asking to be in tier 1 (even if I'd like that ^^) or to check if someone is playing or not

In one of the missions Maria Jenkins says something like "If the Praetorians do invade then Portal Corp will be ground zero." It would be fantastic if Peregrine Island got a makeover to reflect exactly that - Praetorians controlling one of the Portal Corp buildings, and with a presence on the streets of PI, would be much cooler than the Behemoths in the parking lot we have now.
Agreed!

Anyone remember time frame of when CoV went closed beta till when it went live?

No one goes there anymore, it's too crowded...

Closest I would see for an open beta would most likely be a pre-order beta access since this is a traditional expansion.

There was at least 2-3 months - there were three main waves, and pre-orders had access to beta starting a couple weeks prior to the release as well.

I wonder if they'll finally fix bases and add in those big updates that the Devs have been saying we were supposed to get years ago.

Or they'll probably add in another system that the player base will enjoy but like bases, will be half done and then fans of that system will get the proverbial middle finger from the devs again.

Yes, it's a wonder the devs ever get any actual work done when they're spending so much time trying to think of new ways to annoy the player base while a competing MMO is about to be launched.

Why are you acting as though the Devs don't have tons of stuff already in the works? Be careful what you say, or you may just annoy the Devs!

I can tell you I got my invite into closed in October '05, and I think I was first wave.

Xandor I don't think Oct was the first wave of beta testers. CoV/i6 launched in mid/late November. I Bought CoV December 5th started playing December 6th 05.

QR; someone might have said this already, I haven't read all 10 pages.

Funny you should mention this... you know "Desdemona" was used for a Gargoyles character, too, don't you?

Never on screen/in universe, mind you... but one of Coldstone's three souls, the female who eventually became Coldfire, was referred to in the voice credits as Desdemona before she had a body and name of her own. The manipulative male who would become Coldsteel was similarly referred to as Iago. Considering all of the other Shakespeare references in Gargoyles, it seems pretty clear that they were casting the Coldstone trio as a retelling of Othello.

Yes, so this base building topic. I'm very interested to see how they incorporate alignment in with that. I'd love to have some villians in my supergroup.

Any thoughts on this?

Yeah, they've said already that pre-orders will get access to the closed beta.

Dunno if this have already been asked and answered. And sorry if it already have and I just failed at doing a search.
But are villains allowed to pick Ancillary Power Pools or do they have to stick with Patron Power Pools if they switch sides? and vise versa for Heroes ?
Since aren't the Patron Power Pools directly connected to the Arachnos Patron: Black Scorpion, Captain Mako, Ghost Widow, and Scirocco?

Or are they possiblely(hopefully) able to pick from both?

As far as I know, there is no confirmation about this as of yet. Soon™?

I think I was close, as the email said "Should you accept this invitation, you will be among the first individuals from the online community to experience this new game, and we are thrilled to offer you the opportunity to play at this time."

I guess to be more accurate, I may have been first wave of testers from the CoH community, or at least close to first wave.

Thematically they should get EPPs and Heroes switching over should have at least the option to get PPPs. But that would mean that the devs need to implement EPPs and PPPs for every AT which is a lot of work (even assuming that they mostly reuse existing ones). They might do it but I suspect that they'll end up keeping power selection as is although this could be an issue for a Villain who switches without first gaining access to the PPPs

IIRC, CoV went live on Oct 31st, with the 3 day headstart starting on October 28th. Closed beta was around for a couple months before that and open beta was October, if I remember correctly. I can remember the CoV launch date only because our VG was created on the first day of the 3 day headstart, which was Oct 28, 2005.

I'm guessing Going Rogue will follow a similar pattern.

Stupid me -- I was looking at the wrong email. I got my invite into Closed beta on 8/17/05, and I should have realized that it wasn't first wave by this:
"City of Villains is just wrapping up its “initial playability” milestone."

And, a bit off-topic, I didn't think that I warranted my rep being damaged...'nuff said.

Let me get this straight. We can create a villain, then change into a hero? Does this mean we can get MM Heroes?

Among other things, that does appear to be the plan.

I plan on testing just that theory with my MM "Ranger Rae".
