Official Going Rogue Discussion
I had a feeling about that, I saw the video and it make no sense because on what we would call the subpower selections you had core power for each of them.
I also thought thats what control meant, I came in shortly after i3.
I would have asked earlier but some of the users here tend to be a bit caustic with their responds and I dont really take types snipes too kindly.
In the end I figured that the powers listed all because parts of other powersets and other things, there are few people left from before I came in so I had no idea

That's because back when that video was made, the game had no AT and all the powers were in 2 power pools.
A friend of mine and I are having a discussion and I'd like to see how everyone else thinks (especially any devs that may read this)...
I believe, as most do, that when a Villain or Hero switches sides, they gain access to Paragon City or the Rogue Isles, respectively.
My friend believes that, due to coding issues and what-have-you, Heroes and Villains will instead see a sort of instanced or Praetorian version of their new home rather than the much-hyped ability to legitimately switch sides.
Just a note, the press release and FAQ are all worded vaguely enough for neither of us to have concrete proof.
Any confirmed clarification for this would be much appreciated.
The important things for me is that the game does away with many of the limitations between blue and red side. For me, this includes things like:
1. Supergroups no longer care if you're blue or red or any other shade or hue. I definitely don't want to see a character kicked from a SG because they went too far towards any particular alignment.
2. My friends list can include people from both sides. This is very important for my neutral characters, obviously, but shouldn't be restricted to just neutral characters. Let the players decide who they do and do not want to friend. If this is a problem, please consider allowing it, but require a handshake (similar to how adding a global friend requires the other person to approve the action).
I asked one of my sg mates attending Comic Con to ask about what we could expect concerning seeing Brutes on a Manticre tf or MMs in Atlas Park and whether or not they'd be allowed to join sgs. This was his reply after todays panel:
For those who couldn't make it to the con, here's a mini recap, no pics sorry. There weren't any good photo opportunities. The question I asked was in regards to Going Rogue. I asked if heroes/villians would have free run of Paragon City and the Rogue Iles and what of
their SG affiliation?
Positron said, once a player had completed their conversion to light or dark that is the plan to let them have full playability of either territory. Whether it will be a portal to a nuetral zone like pocket D or a direct teleporter like misson teleporter is unknown. Regarding affiliations once a changeover is made, he was unable to comment. Now here are the responses to other questions of the panel:
-They want to take away bridging
-Cross server pvp-working on it
-20 nodes to work with 18 used
-Enhancing database- working on it
-Quicker spawns on respec trial
-Accolade for completing all ouroboros-no
-More base options
-MM custization-working on it
-Finishing up hanging story arcs-yes
-Electrical control for Doms-maybe
-MM whips-yes
...and there you have it.

More power to 'em... but how?
-Cross server pvp-working on it
Not something I really care about... but cool for those who do.
-20 nodes to work with 18 used
What is this referin to?
-Enhancing database- working on it
For what? What was the question that got this response?
-Quicker spawns on respec trial
Cool beans, the waiting between those can be killer... except if you have a team that is barely making it as it is.
-Accolade for completing all ouroboros-no
Totally expected.
-More base options
Woot!!
-MM custization-working on it
Very exciting... I simply can't wait to see what they have in store for this.
-Finishing up hanging story arcs-yes
Finally! It feels like the last story issue was i10!
-Electrical control for Doms-maybe
Controllers too, right?
-MM whips-yes
I just new that when BaB made that comment about it in a thread it was waaaay too specific to be a joke. I bet he assumed ppl would think it was though.

"Electrical control for Doms-maybe"
This is SQUEEEEE! and /fasepalm at the same time (so just imagine my avatar getting all happy and that creepy chick behind me hitting me with a frying pan mid-breath - it's from FLCL... so it makes sense, really).
Maybe means someone has on their desk a list of powers and the early steps of how to go about making Electrical Control ... written in much-erased pencil on a crumbled piece of paper.
That's it.
My hopes feel dashed... but at least it could be ready by Christmas 2010.
If and when they proliferate again: Doms will need a new primary badly lol.
Thank you, City of Heroes, for giving me a superhero social network combined with amazingly smooth game play. Petitions signed with realistic expectations.
taking away bridging? Does this mean moving the auto SK into the regular content? Does this mean removing the sidekick option?
Removing the sidekick option is a HORRIBLE IDEA! Bridging is no big deal except for the RPers annoyed with invites to bridge... which never happens now with MA/AE.
I dont get this one????
No one goes there anymore, it's too crowded...

If you look at the i16 announcement you will see that there will be a difficulty slider for spawn sizes-this eliminates the need for fills.
M.A. has already eliminated the need for bridges because you can set missions to auto ex toons to 45.
Now the PLers can PL themselves quietly without spamming for fillers and bridges.
That's just how I see this going-not how i'd use it.
Personally I think the slider option is awesome becasue with most toons I don't find lvl 5 dif too demanding on toons past lvl 27 or so.-just IMO

They didn't give much more information about GR othere than that and it will be bigger and better.
Also to clarify on the notes a little:
-The nodes are for customization, that means every costume detail is a node, so once the final 2 nodes are used they would need to rewrite code to get more. So ask yourself if rollerskates are really necessary.
-The database expansion is for storage of enhancments, salvage, recipes... Etc

I think this is a false and irresponsable statement based on nothing, that only leads to more gloom and doom. Closed beta for issue 16 starts next week or soon there after, it probably won't go live untill mid September. That leaves three months to get GR out before Christams and I think there is a good chance that is what they are aiming for.
It is much more likely that they want to consentrate on building hype for Issue 16 before starting the really marketing push for GR.
Of course i could be wrong, it's just an opinion, but stating GR won't come out in the next 7-8 motnhs is also just a geuss with no real facts to base that negative assumption.

My gut instinct says they want GR to hit shelves in time for holiday shopping, but I have a feeling that I14 knocked their schedule off a little (hence the very fast turnaround for I15). I16 may be a bug squashing-fest as well slowing the GR release.
If we make a few reasonable assumptions about the future it becomes distinctly possible GR won't make it until January and possible even later (I'd say end of Feb to mid march). If we assume I16 beta goes well, that puts I16 live in September. Assuming the same test time for GR (and that it's "I17") and that drops it live in mid-December (well after the prime shopping season). The Devs don't like dropping issues close in on "event time" which pushes it into January of 2010. If testing is extensive and time consuming, another month of testing pushes it to February (yet another event time) and the delay could stretch into March.
So, yeah, it's definately possible with a little bad luck, bad timing, tricky coding or persistent "showstopper" bugs GR could see a 6 month gap from I16 going live. Should that happen, I'm betting there will be a pre-order box to capture some holiday sales even if they're not currently planning on one (which they may be already).
Of course, with a LOT of good luck with I16 and GR testing it could hit just before the holidays.

[/ QUOTE ]It's just as much baseless speculation on your part. Where does it say anywhere that Going Rogue will be the next thing to come after Issue 16? There's basically only 5 months left this year. With at least one month of I16 beta (I'd guess closer to 2 with all the new powers), that would leave precious little time to beta test what is supposed to be a massive addition. Couple that with the dearth of Going Rogue information, and it looks like it will be later rather than sooner. Only pie eyed optimism sees it coming this year. I'd be happy to be wrong though.
....and I could totally be over optimistic. I want it to come out soon so my thoughts are probably swayed by wishful thinking. I doubt issue 16 will be in testing for two months though...that is a very long time.
I have a question though. I started playing a week or two before CoV was released, so I don't know the answer. How long was closed and open beta for CoV expansion?
CoV beta started in mid August and the live game launched on Halloween, so about 2 1/2 months. I don't know the break down between open/closed. This game has an even bigger dynamic included with the side switching and should take longer to test, figuring on at least 3 months. It'd be pushing it to get it out this year yet. And releasing it too close to the holidays could mean lots of bugs to squash right before they take time off. Not to mention the inevitable Winter event right around the corner from then.
I have said that we won't get GR this year and everyone said the opposite...GR isn't some dinky-winky issue release...it is another game entirely! What makes the sunny side up gamers think that GR will be out for Xmas Shopping?!
i15 just dropped, i16 will be in beta soon, there aren't many things to test really, just the powers...customization could have a few hiccups but that's irrelevant, if the devs wanted this out so badly they perfected the system since they have been working on it for a year and a half already, they did their own Alpha testing.
Once i16 leaves closed beta it will go into open beta, that might be around mid August. Give two weeks of open beta goodness and the game ill drop in early-mid September.
So you have three months to release more info, release how much of the game will be side switching, what will be the mechanics, any extra new power sets...( Cause again, if all we get is one new zone, two new power sets...I wont buy it)...The Devs will have news releases every two days to release any new info.
The news release of Going Rogue seemed really iffy, like it was not meant to go out, then Posi had to do damage control by making it an official announcement, that was in May...we got a news release detailing some back story last week...that three months after the initial news release.
technically the Devs have had since May to prepare good Going Rogue news and with Comic-Con they had the perfect opportunity to release some GoRo news...they didn't.
So now it is July, we have yet to go into closed beta with i16 with is just power customization and more villains powers going to heroes, the issue will be out in early-mid September...if the devs want to make a dent into the release of going rogue by the holiday season then they better start releasing real news about the game not back stories and art.
I am not one to cast doom but I do not see this title coming out until late March or early April ( the same time we usually get a release anyway)...I could be completely wrong but the Devs will need to rush the release and I rather them take their time and give us 40 bucks worth of stuff not just one new large zone and two power sets that have been asked for...Going Rogue better have more new power sets, maybe a new AT or something worth me pending more money on.

[/ QUOTE ]I've thought all along that it would be a 2010 release, though I'd be more than happy to be wrong.
I also believe that the announcement was "accidentally leaked" as a calculated effort to quash the massive civil war that was brewing over the MA debacle. Give 'em something big, shiny and new to drool over and anticipate so they have something else to talk about.
If GR is out before September or October of next year, I'll be surprised.
The Devs are being very vague and contradict everything we read.
First, Posi makes the announcement that villains will go blue and heroes will go red. We question that because there is a third faction; Vigilantes/Fallen heroes/Redeemed Villans. Once we all start to fight over this, Castle responds to one of my posts by saying that he can't comment on the mechanics but he plans to have his new hero to play villain content.
That leads me to further speculate that only owners of Going Rogue will be able to side switch by starting in praetoria. That makes some sense... why make an expansion that anyone can play w/ or w/o buying it? Someone said that would be a marketting nightmare but that makes perfect sense.
The panel video from SDCC09, Posi makes a comment about heroes staying heroes and villains staying villains and vigilantes exploring the grey zone? I'll listen to it again and see if it was taken out of context.
His comment derails everything I have thought about GR! Will we be able to move freely through red and blue? what role will vigilantes play? What is the mechanic between side switching and can we do it as many times as we want?

I have to admit I'm not entirely happy with having to do a total conversion. I was expecting there to be some way to be neutral so as to explore "the shades of grey" in a character's life. Doing a total conversion is cool, but it seems like the devs want to make it be a big deal which to me means entirely minimizing the sades of grey and leaving black and white.
I suppose that's to be expected given the legacy game design. Here's to hoping CoX2 can address that.
