  1. So, anyone know how a 9800GTS card stacks up to the 9800GT Posi mentioned? I have a Gateway FX laptop that has one of these and wondered if I'd be able to push ultramode on it.
  2. I know all I seem to do is suggest the laptop I bought, but I really like it and it is a "gaming" laptop (heavy, 9800GTS 1 gig card, 4gb RAM, large high res screen, etc) but I think it was a great deal from Gateway (bought at Best Buy). Check out Best Buy's gaming computer section, some great Asus's models and the Gateway FX I got was only $1000 so I see it as a great deal.

    Just my two cents...
  3. Oil Slick for the TA set has been bugged in AE missions for some time now. When this was originally brought up, the Devs seemed to be aware of it but I saw just in the last patch that a couple FX fixes for TA were in but this wasn't mentioned. I just wondered if anyone else had gotten any responses from the Devs about when the bug will be looked at/fixed. Its a pretty big issue since you can't ignite Oil Slick on an AE mission and takes away a big power from TA (not that we have many great powers anyway...lol...j/k, I like the set).

B/c as a veteran we have the experience to give some valid feedback on a new issue/expansion pack of the game. We've seen the game from the very beginning and have lots of experience playing all along the way. I think this is great and a great way to keep vets interested in the new features as some of us get bored with the same stuff since we've been playing so long.

The other criteria are also a good way to keep people subscribed to the game so that when the "won't be named" competition comes out, we don't see a drop in paying players here at CoX.

    Mastermind sets

Really? So there isn't going to be a new AT (Rogue), just two new powersets? I had heard rumors of both but didn't know it had been confirmed. After reading the info about Desdemona, I wonder if this new demon summoning will have some drawbacks, like if you summon too many or run out of end, your own pets can attack you as well. Interesting, very interesting.

    Best Rogue Guess

I might guess sometime in September since thats the competition's release date, great way to keep customers.
  7. what time is this being brought back on Thursday?
  8. It still lights "most" of the time outside of AE missions but inside it definitely spawns as a friendly ally and thus you can't hit it.

And yes, I have "whiffed" it before when you could light it and have to use my taser power and my flaming arrow power a couple of times to finally hit it. The easiest way to get it to light normally is have someone with a fire aura (blazing aura, hot feet, mud pots, etc).

    New Stuff

Go to places like Dell/Alienware and they will take your money very quickly for their "highend" systems...lol.

Alienware will go over 3000 fairly quickly, especially on a laptop gaming system.

    63+ Vet rewards

Or that it would show where glowies/hostages/etc. are on the map and cut down on the running around. It would make for a more direct approach to completing a mish. They probably would do this though b/c it might make the missions too easy or exploitable.
  11. Great to hear as I just ask about this is the Technical issues/bugs section. I'm glad Castle knows about it b/c my Earth/TA controller and my TA/archery defender are hating not being able to light oil slick in the AE missions.
  12. I don't know if this has been recently posted (search function isn't working for me currently) but when using oil slick in the AE missions, when targeted it is seen as a friendly ally and thus can't be attacked to ignite. Only the enemy can hit it if you're lucky enough to fight an enemy with fire or energy damage. This bug takes away most of the usefulness of the power which is the fire damage you get from it. I have sent in bug reports on my two separate toons that this has happened with, I have not noticed this happening outside of the AE area.

Has anyone else heard anything about this bug and if the Devs are aware of it and working on it, b/c it makes my controller and defender TA toons alot less enjoyable to play.

Also, I noticed in AE that flash arrow is back to aggroing the mob on the TA toon like it used to back in the day when this powerset first came out. Which is not good for my toons either...lol.
  13. I can suggest a laptop for about $1000 that will allow you to turn up settings to max and handle the game for a while in the future, check out the Gateway FX laptop at Best Buy's website. It has a good graphics card, 4gb RAM, 320 gb HD, and a 17 inch screen (pretty heavy laptop though). I'd loved it so far (had it for about 4-5 months) and the only trouble you need to watch out for is to keep it cool (keep it on a hard, flat surface, no blankets or soft materials underneath that could block the fans).

    Which Rig?

the macbook pro should be able to handle most things fine with the 9400 (along with the ability to do other amazing things that apple is capable of). Also, the iMac is nice if you don't mind a desktop. Be ready for a slight learning curve if you've never had a mac before though.

I have seen so many user reviews of Alienware and everyone hates them. The stuff goes bad quickly and their service department is horrible. Their computers are also very pricey.

You'd be better going to a place like Cyberpower or Ibuypower and build a computer (desktop or laptop) from there with the high end components you want. Sorry to diss alienware b/c I've never had one personally, just heard horrible things online and from people I know.
  15. I have the Gateway FX that is (was) exclusively sold at Best Buy (for around $1000) and it plays the game great! Its a big desktop replacement model but it has no problems playing at full graphics in any zone. If you are interested, let me know and I'll send you the exact model and specs from it.
  16. I would love for them to either add the 3rd place shirt on the back of the first place one (or second place one) or actually offer the 3rd place shirt by itself. It is by far my favorite and the only one I would spend money on.

Please give us the 3rd place shirt in some form...
  17. why not suggest a Dell mini or one of the many netbooks? It doesn't seem like she needs a ton of power when computing so these might meet her needs at a relatively inexpensive price tag. Maybe get her to buy an extended warranty/tech support package since the computer will be cheaper.

gratz on the new addition! Now, is she a controller or a defender???

Lets just hope she's not a sonic blaster...lol. Congrats!

Here's to Liberty Server, my first home on CoX some 5 or so years ago.
  19. Both systems lack in the graphics card department. That is the one item on your computer that will be determine how well it plays this game. Try to get an Nvidia card with the numbers x6xx and up or since the new ones came out x6x and up (the "and up" meaning keep the second number at 6 or higher). Both those computers listed have good RAM etc. but without a good graphics card you won't be able to turn up the graphics settings and may have some trouble in high traffic areas in the game.
  20. That looks really cool, wish I had a toon on Triumph to come join in the fun
  21. I can't find the thread that I posted a similar question like this before, but someone said they got a netbook to play it, although on the lowest settings and not very well. The Asus N-10 model with the dedicated card would work best, but its pretty big to be called a netbook. You'd probably be better off getting a regular size laptop (small) instead of the Asus N-10 since its as big as some of them.

If price isn't a problem, check out Sony's "newer" small laptop model. I think you can up its specs pretty high and it might play the game fairly well.

I have a Gateway FX laptop (desktop replacement; this thing is huge!) so if size isn't a problem, just go with something like that (only cost my $1000 and I got 4gb RAM, 9800 GTS 1gig card, and 320 gb HD with a expansion slot for another 320 gb)
  22. Actually it allows for a faster download if you ever have to reinstall and since you get a free month of playing time, you only pay $5 for the booster pack instead of $10. Its actually a good deal.
