Looking to buy a new computer, interested in some suggestions/ideas. Primary use will be gaming (cox), money isn't a huge issue...cheaper is better, but maybe a soft cap at 3,000. Thanks for your help!

Not much on giving specifics, but I do know that $3k will get you a damn good gaming rig. >< Half that will get you a pretty good system for gaming, even.

Not a good link for the OP Zombie_Man, I spec inexpensive systems.

With up to $3000 to spend, I would point them to a number of system guides at various sites to get into that price range. I would say an i7-920 quad core, 6GB of DDR3 and a pair of GTX 285s to start with.

I would go on but the sleeping pill is really starting to kick in now. Damn insomnia.

I have helped a few of my friends get PCs for CoX. Would you rather have one pre-built or are you comfortable enough to put it together yourself? The last one I got for someone was about $750 and was pre-built. I would be more than happy to help you get setup for the future. Contact me through PM here or ingame @My name is Joe.

This is the one I helped a friend get, no longer available though. She also got a new monitor with it. Computer from Newegg

Does this mean something has changed your opinion on multiple graphics cards?

No, just trying to figure out how to spend upwards of $3000 on a system.

Someone recently e-mailed me about a $2300 system with a 3.8GHz OCed i7 and a GTX 295 wondering if they could still add another video card. I didn't bother to educate them beyond the fact the GTX 295 is already a dual GPU setup and they really wouldn't need to add another one.

On the other hand I've helped a couple of people recently with systems built around my $600 parts list. And while there will always be people who can afford a 30" ultrahigh resolution monitor and need a system to drive it, I'll always be of the camp that you can PC game for much, much less and still have a good gaming experience. It's all about choosing the right mix of parts, something you rarely find in store bought systems.

3 grand is exactly the cap i was looking at for building my new comp too.

Although i already have many ideas on how to spend that i would welcome anyone else's opinions on a great gaming rig for that price.

Don't know if the OP was interested in buying the parts and assembling it themselves but that's exactly what i will do.

Interested in hearing others opinions.

Go to places like Dell/Alienware and they will take your money very quickly for their "highend" systems...lol.

Alienware will go over 3000 fairly quickly, especially on a laptop gaming system.

Contrarian, do you want dual-core or quad-core, what is minimum harddrive space and do you prefer Intel or AMD?

Quad core, probably a bare minimum of 750 gigs HD space, (preferably a 32 mb cache if it's a 7200 RPM drive) and i was leaning toward Intel.

I'm getting ready for work now but i may email you later. Thanks for the reply.
