Looking for suggestions for a laptop.
I know you said that gaming wasn't really a concern, however with that kind of budget, there's no reason at all to get a laptop that can't perform quite well in most games
Both of these are within your budget, and both would perform admirably
My wife and I both have Asus laptops, and have been very satisfied with them.
As far as laptops go, Nvidia over ATI.
That is all.
NVM. Sorry, move along.

This is houtex, aka Mike, signing off the forums. G'night all. - 10/26/2012
Well... perhaps I was premature about that whole 'signing off' thing... - 11-9-2012
Many thanks for the help (even houtex! )
If anyone looks in again, how does this laptop look for $800.00?
It looks like a great deal, but I'm not too familiar with laptop graphics cards and I couldn't find any useful information on the GT series from nVidia, but I did find information on their GTS and GTX series.
Again, I can spend about $1500.00, but if I can find something really good for significantly less, it would be great.

From a purely statistics standpoint, the rest of the system looks decent. I can't speak for the ergonomics, heat, build quality, battery life, etc. though... you'll want to search for people who have similar models. The main caveat is that the screen seems to be pretty low res for its size; 1366 x 768 is not much on a 16" screen if those numbers are correct.

Doesn't look like many people are. Even I'm having a tough time finding out anything about a GT 220M. The best I can determine is that it's a rebadged or tweeked GT 120M. 128-bit memory bus, 32 SPs, think an 8600GT with DDR2 memory in a laptop. However it's only pushing around a 1 megapixel of display so that should be a reasonable amount of power for a display of that size. But don't expect premium performance in modern games with all the knobs set to 11. Plan to compromise on your settings to get consistent framerates over 30fps.
Compared to the two laptops Gamma pointed to, those have a GTX 260M which is roughly 3 to 4x faster but it's also pushing twice the number of pixels.

I know all I seem to do is suggest the laptop I bought, but I really like it and it is a "gaming" laptop (heavy, 9800GTS 1 gig card, 4gb RAM, large high res screen, etc) but I think it was a great deal from Gateway (bought at Best Buy). Check out Best Buy's gaming computer section, some great Asus's models and the Gateway FX I got was only $1000 so I see it as a great deal.
Just my two cents...
Hopefully posting this question here isn't against the rules, and I trust this community for help.
I'm looking to get a new laptop. I'd like to keep it under $1500.00. Gaming on it isn't a priority, but it would be very nice if it had that capability. I was looking at a Dell XPS system. I know that some people don't like Dell, but I have an older Dell desktop and I've been satisfied with Dell, overall, although I'm not limiting to only getting a Dell. I've looked around at newegg.com, but I'm not very familiar with laptops and what to really look for regarding them. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
