Rikti Invasion Incoming! ~Discussion~
I'd be happy to help repel the Rikti, as long as we get the booster first. Otherwise I'll pass, see enough as is.
Unless they spawn inside AE buildings, the majority of players may not notice this
Rikti invasion woohoo. /sarcasm Kind of happy it's the weekend of Otakon. Wont have to worry about dealing with another pointless invasion event.
WAHOOOOOOOOOO!!!
Time to stomp some Rikti!!!!
For those negative nellies, remember the first time YOU were part of a Ritki Invasion, or any of the earlier issue invasions? The adrenaline pumping? The vastness? The epic battling? Bombs dropping all around you? Fighitng side by side with your friends, SG or VG?
Well, we have a lot of new folks over the last several months that may NOT have had the privilege we've had!
I'm sure those unwilling and non-desirous of participating can find another zone or AE building to hide in while espousing their ire.
I would imagine that well-played, veteran players would at least have the chutzpah to go the distance and show our new members how a community takes care of itself and the Ritki, especially to prove the words 'can't' or 'won't' are in your vocabulary in taking on a simple challenge, like maybe organizing your SG or VG to muster up members for a few hours of zone-hopping, Rikti Invasion-stomping at the SG/VG level itself, or upping the ante and organizing and taking down a Ritki Dropship during the invasion.
I'm sure the Devs know this is old to us veteran players. We, as vets, can do out part by making this a memorable event for the new players and SG/VG members alike.
The benefits of our actions may get some of the die-hard AE players to 'step outside' of their AE enclosures and try something new, maybe even be impressed enough to join SGs/VGs or try hopping to other invaded zones to re-experience the rush they got in their first invasion, which may be this weekend.
We once were in the same shoes as all our new members are now. Let's not forget those that made the difference in our early gaming experience, especially in unique events such as this.
So what's different between an invasion and when they appear regularly? Is the game play different? Or is it just more of those same invasions?
More of the same more often.

It's pretty constant.
Good luck to anyone brave enough to attempt a Numina that weekend.
WOOHOO!!! I love Invasions! Even if it is a lagfest!
Wait, only a weekend? Not a full week?
WAAAAHHHH!!!!
With these be kind enough to give merits 10% of the time?

Yeah. Not that exciting. Better than the poorly done zombie attacks though.

And there you'll always be

I was hoping for Dual Pistols or claws for brutes before the next invasion so I actually gave a damn. I don't have any characters that I care enough about to suffer thru the lagfest that is a Riki invasion.
I appreciate the effort Devs, but can't understand even having these events if your servers can't handle them. Between the rubber banding, D/Cs, and complete lag.....they really aren't any fun.

Yes. I remember those things intimately. That first day was the best day of playing City of Heroes I've ever had. Three hours after the servers came up, when the Rikti hit every city zone at once, and players on every global chat channel started making speeches to rally the troops from both sides, it felt historic, like I was part of something big.
"He that outlives this day, and comes safe home,
Will stand a tip-toe when this day is nam'd,
And rouse him at the name of Crispian.
He that shall live this day, and see old age,
Will yearly on the vigil feast his neighbours,
And say 'To-morrow is Saint Crispian.'
Then will he strip his sleeve and show his scars,
And say 'These wounds I had on Crispian's day.'
Old men forget; yet all shall be forgot,
But he'll remember, with advantages,
What feats he did that day. Then shall our names,
Familiar in his mouth as household words-
Harry the King, Bedford and Exeter,
Warwick and Talbot, Salisbury and Gloucester-
Be in their flowing cups freshly rememb'red.
This story shall the good man teach his son;
And Crispin Crispian shall ne'er go by,
From this day to the ending of the world,
But we in it shall be remembered-
We few, we happy few, we band of brothers;
For he to-day that sheds his blood with me
Shall be my brother; be he ne'er so vile,
This day shall gentle his condition;
And gentlemen in England now-a-bed
Shall think themselves accurs'd they were not here,
And hold their manhoods cheap whiles any speaks
That fought with us upon Saint Crispin's day."
And then, over the course of the next year, we got it hammered into our head that what we had done, including the should-be famous battle of the Steel 60 on the test server? Became just another increasingly boring part of the game: a theme park ride that leaves the station on a regular schedule, as epic as a game of checkers.

Every non-Hazard, non-Trial, non-PvP city zone except the Rikti War Zone (ironically), Cimerora, and (I think) Striga gets hit three hours after the server comes up. After that, each zone gets hit again every 2 to 4 hours, so no matter what zone you're in, it will have an invasion event on average once every three hours. Whenever you log in that weekend, there will probably be an invasion somewhere in a zone you can reach in no more than an hour.
*yawn*
I don't mind the Random raid when people trigger it. It's fun then. I HATE when they do these constant bombings though.
I'd rather it be a system where the game thinks to itself " Hey. No one has turned in halloween salvage or done the LGTF in around 3 days. Lets trigger ONE event and reset the timer"
These constant attacks really drain the fun out of the attacks themself and pretty much kills eh weekend.
Wow. Some of you people sound like you're jaded beyond enjoying the game anymore. Myself, I've only been playing since January, and I can't wait to see this. I get all excited when the sky turns red or green...
Im going to make it a point that my superteam attends at all times if possible. I'm anxious to test their capabilities.
Ignoring anyone is a mistake. You might miss something viral to your cause.
Like Inquizitor, I enjoy the random invasions spawned by players doing raids in RWZ, but these server wide events are just horrible. On paper they sound great, but the server lag and crashing ruin the experience.
yes im looking forward to this also have some toons that need the badge,my only question is why only a weekend? some people cant play weekend and only play during the week
Fluffy Bunny 1 Person SG
Rabid Bunny 1 Person VG

Hobbit's Hole 1 Person SG
Spider's Web 1 Person VG
Both on Freedom
Ya know the first time this happened i had crappy graphics and all i had was lag every moment durring these things. The first one after i got great graphics was amazing because i could fight with everybody else instead of dc and reload lol. Now they are just annoying because it causes lag in big areas full of people and with AE alof of them wont know what to do or what is happening lol.

Not this lagfest again.
Boring. Been there. Done that. Too many times.
Just another recycling of old stuff put out there for the fanbois to fawn over.

Completely agree. If there were more reward to fighting the Rikti in the zone raids, then I could get into it. But for right now, this gets a big.... fat.... 'meh'. It's just another distraction until double xp weekend gets here.
LET THE BEATINGS BEGIN!!
...Man, i'd love to take down one of those dropships too..
Please at least for the week blow up AE, let it be rubble until the invasion is over.

Would be more fun with ninja Ritki and winged Ritki monkeys, though.. But when isn't that the case?

Still hate the visit Winscott mission- make it dropable, have it give actual exp or remove it altogether. PS- Down knows who you are.

For you, maybe. But there's always plenty of new players who haven't gotten to experience the invasion events yet.

And they will.
Over, and over, and over, and over, and over...again.
