Rikti Invasion Incoming! ~Discussion~
Looks like Angry-Angel is getting something started on redside... here.
If its broke, don't fix it... I like the chaos!

Wow. Some of you people sound like you're jaded beyond enjoying the game anymore. Myself, I've only been playing since January, and I can't wait to see this. I get all excited when the sky turns red or green...
[/ QUOTE ]
Me too! Sky turning eerie and then crowds of players pumping up to take them down the min they arrive... I love it.
[/ QUOTE ]
Yep, but wait until its there are a few more, then a few more, and then another is announced.
A few more will be posting that it gets tiring to have the same "special event" happen over and over again.
[/ QUOTE ]
Quick, without looking it up, can anyone name the last time we had an Invasion event? These things don't happen very often, and even during the event, as someone else pointed out, you'll only see the invasion once every three hours, unless you change zones alot and catch more, or hang out in a zone that doesn't have them and don't see any at all.
At least the badges you get from the Rikti Invasion give you something halfway useful.
[/ QUOTE ]LGTF triggered invasions aside, the last Invasion Event was late last year, IIRC.
I started playing right when I10 went live, so I've been experiencing them just as long as anyone. I still love them. Like others said, the sky changing color, the sound of the war walls dropping, the sirens wailing, all that gets my heart pumping.

The last invasion there was an organized server-wide Drop Ship take down... If I remember correctly we on Virtue won with over 40 I believe (I may be off by a few)... either way it was the best time I'v had playing since I started playing this game. I so hope we get to do it again.
If you haven't had a chance to take down a Drop Ship with over 100 other Hero's... man you are seriously missing out!!!

Virtue Server.
Rage Against the Rikti weekend.
60 minutes.
41 dropships.
I filmed the whole thing and made a video of it. (Until YouTube took it down, but it's still on my website.)

What I would really like to see, is the after effects of one of these invasions - as opposed to everything going back to status quo.
Have a few months of reconstruction. Broken buildings, destroyed highways, broken war wall sections, having to find trainers in different locations due to the damage.
Then, to go a step further, have missions designed around helping the citizens rebuild.
Having everything go to hell in a hand basket, then flip a switch where everything's normal?
That got old. Badges aside, not much got accomplished during the raid IMO.
[/ QUOTE ]
Most of that is found already in-game on blue side. It's called Boomtown and nobody goes there because it's a giant burned out waste with no facilities and nothing to do there. Red side gets mishes in the teens that send you to disrupt the reconstruction efforts there I think.
The idea of actually fighting during an invasion is that you're preventing the Rikti from turning every zone into Boomtown clones.

So, it's either "Boomtown Clones" or "Status Quo". No middle ground whatsoever. Got it.
I've been playing since I7, and I still find the Rikti events exciting and fun (when I choose to participate), even with the lag I usually have to deal with. This time, I have a Mac that runs faster than my PC (?!!), so I'm looking forward to giving it a shot and seeing the results.
And if I'm not up to Rikti bashing, I'll find something else to do in another zone on my own. There's plenty of material out there to keep me occupied if I choose - so let the newcomers and others that want to participate have all their fun. For the rest of us, we'll find something new and exciting soon enough.
I solo a lot. This event will probably mean that all my alts are locked out of the zones where there's an invasion for the lag, or the danger of cutting through.
I'll deal, but I'm not a fan of 'invasion' events in general. Especially since the "Liche King" events on Warcraft more or less shut the game down for a weekend.
[ QUOTE ]
No worse than starting Numina TF is any other time. Zombie events happen at least every few hours on Virtue most days. Don't know about the rest of the servers, but I know about half of the Numina TFs I've been on since the zombies started last year have hit at least one zombie-induced speed bump.
Rikti invasions don't happen nearly as frequently. The actual fighting also isn't as long because the bombing phase takes up a big chunk of the event instead of being the whole event. And the Rikti events actually offer a useful Accolade.
[/ QUOTE ]
2 things:
- On an invasion weekend, they are nearly constant. You do realize this thread is about an Invasion weekend not random Rikti raids, right?
- It's not fighting the raids that will take away from a Numina. It's the series of hunt missions that will be affected when ALL enemies in a zone despawn for the duration of the raid in the zone.
I like Rikti raids and zone events in general, but raid weekends tend to be a little obnoxious.
We need a 5th raid that spawns randomly when the new TF/SF is completed. That would be exciting.
[ QUOTE ]
there really should be more to the event than just meet up in one spot and beat on stuff till the event ends, I think that there should be some sort of random objective the Rikti are after in each zone, some examples, in Atlas park the destruction of the atlas statue would crush morale in the city, if the rikti can plant enough bombs then they win (and a new place will have to be found for holding CC's, till the scene is reset anyway)
In Sharkhead the rikti could be planting bombs on one side of the pit, enough placed and boom, the pit becomes a giant pool till Cage can get it emptyed.
Far fetched I know, but I like to dream
[/ QUOTE ]
I had a similar idea I posted a long time ago about an event that would be a very big programming job, but pretty cool... involving an attack on Skyway that would end in zone-wide freeway collapse if the players failed... but really a HUGE programming job. Still, it would be so cool...

Rikti invasions actually feel like you're saving the world or at least the city. I've been here since Issue 4 and I'm a little jaded from doing the same stuff over and over, but the invasions I'm happy to see when they show up.
Nice move making it just a weekend thing. Focused players with lots of alts means actual Elite Bosses redside lol.
Thank you, City of Heroes, for giving me a superhero social network combined with amazingly smooth game play. Petitions signed with realistic expectations.
[ QUOTE ]
Okay, maybe its time to kick the tires and see if the old "new idea machine" can come up with something...new.
I mean, another invasion?
Haven't the Rikti gotten the point, yet?
[/ QUOTE ]
I truly have problems comprehending this outlook.
Atlas Park is really old. Should they get rid of it because we've all seen it a billion times, and we all find it tedious and not furthering new content?
Since the Ghost Ship and Adamastor are really old, should they stop them from spawning and replace them with something else?
I have no doubt that someone will point out that the invasions are different. They're more intrusive, in their way, because they "take over" a zone. I've had an invasion halt TFs in their tracks more than once because of how they now clear the zone of "normal" spawns. I still like it when they come back, for badges if nothing else.

No one has said get rid of the Rikti Raids. The weekends however... They just are not fun. The raids happen too frequently. It's near constant where you can't really get much done. Even if all you are after is the badges you can pretty much finish that off in an invasion or two.
They need to add variety to these things somehow. objectives. Maybe bring back that mothership for Atlas oark they had when CoH Beta ended. It's always all the just the same thing and it's constant.
The first few times I saw a Rikti Raid I thought it was ok. I never thought it was mad eof awesome but it was the new shiny so I played around with it. Now I tolerate and occasionally join in on the random raids that occur now and again. When it is just a constant thing though it grates on my nerves.
Or you can do one by accident.

Couldn't you have done this on the 24th when I'll be camping for the weekend? These are extremely annoying.

I was one of the Steel 60 and I STILL like Rikti invasion events. Granted, a week is too long but a weekend of them? Perfect.
The times I do participate in a Rikti Invasion, there's always a horrible amount of lag! Why won't the Devs give the servers more buffering? That'd really clear up the lag problem, I think! I also hate, that, aside from the fun of taking out Rikti Dropships, which I've not yet done with anyone, that there's nothing you get for doing it!

I love Rikti raids and Rikti weeks and Rikti weekends. I'm disappointed I'm going to miss this.

Don't get me wrong, I love sending them back to where they came from:-). But being a member of Vanguard is supposed to grant a 10% chance of earning a Vanguard Merit to any defeated Rikti not in the ship :-). My Search Fu is weak at the office and need clarification if this is the case for the event.

The only issue I have with the rikit invasion is that it TIMESTAMPS progress and you cannot move forward from it. The rikti now have to always "never lose never win". If you stop the invasions and advance the plot, taking the invasions away makes it so those that come in after unable to get the badges and experiance of the entire thing.
Simple, run a LGTF and it spawns one? You then make them very hard to get. (this might be worked around since people can speed through it). You don't want them feeling like the "epic" badges. o.@
Leave it in, and your stuck in a stale time period where it's like "Why am I doing this if we can't win eventually?"
<spoiler for anyone not played the LGTF, I know but why not be careful? :P>
Unless they gear the experiance more per person base, in which case EVERYONE's saved us already from Recluse and Hero One. Of course, Hero One can NEVER be redeemed or saved as hinted in the exit text on the LGTF?
I get fuzzled when i try to sort out what I've done and not done according to the game :P

Hear hear! Would be nice if AE got blown to hell for a few days or a week. A better trigger for the invasion is when a second zone is created, oh, like, AP1 and AP2

Some form of chaos would be nice. An AE building down here and there ; disruption of YL and GL for a bit; fire mish, and police mish where thugs are getting out of jail (or something along those lines). Nothing extreme, but break the norm of, hey couple of a bombs go off, they invade, leave, and bob's your uncle business as usual.

At least junk up things a bit ..... Make more items destroyable like the Meyham missions [make sure players can never target them] But not too much just some cars and dusting of random items and buildings. From what I understand, the Rikti agenda is not to destroy Buildings and Assets [like the Original Assault] But the actual extermination of super powered threats and magic. Once this is accomplished the ship can be repaired and then the overall havoc would return.

And have people running and screaming! I don't get why the zone has to be FULLY empty when an invasion happens (which is why I dislike them. It ruins the day for someone who was hoping to kill a few such and such NPCs for his mission).
I wanna see NPCs fighting Rikti, Civilizans running around scared, cars crashing, Vanguard forces coming down to help the heroes.
Yah, it would make it more laggy, but at least it'd be fun.
