Have you ever gotten an email that wasn't spam?

I stopped at about 12k emails. If there is a cap, it's nothing you'd ever see even through
constant excessive spamming, probably wont crash any servers..

lol - that's funny as hades, Mateo....

Yeah, I expect my little passive protest to have zero effect. That said, I don't give a rat's
[censored] about the little red email indicator, so on the couple toons that actually get any, it can
fill up till the cows come home...

It simply serves as a reminder about the capabilities of this dev team...

I think I did once. It was back during i3 though. There's no way I'll remember who/what about though.

How about have you ever sent one? I don't think I have.

Last month, I sent four Emails to a friend. He had an arc in the AE that had a LOT that needed fixing, so I divided the critiques into four sections. He later fixed most, but not all of the problems. He still has "Two and Half Men" where it should read "Two and a half men", for example, but oh well, it's his arc, not mine.

I send and receive emails all the time. I use the email system to make notes about various things ingame, like market prices, objectives for a toon...things of that sort.

I haven't gotten an email from a non spammer since I3, and haven't sent one to another player since. Although I would probably use it heavily if I was a large SG leader. Or had more than 2 people on my @friends.

Everyone I would ever bother sending an in-game email to I have other means to contact. By now, I just mark every email I get as spam without looking at it and move on. Chances are, I marked legitimate players sending me emails for whatever reason as spammers, but I guess some innocents always get caught in the crossfire.

I actually joined my first SG through the email system.

The sg leader was teamed with me a few times and asked if id like to join, then said she would send specifics via email. I got the email shortly thereafter, and it outlined all the group rules and expectations, and was a great way to communicate.

This simply would not be possible nowdays, because I have to mass dump all my emails on login (sometimes over 50 emails!) so i would never receive any legit emails, since it is simply not feasible for me to scan through each one before deletion. I have not received a legitimate email in YEARS. The last legitimate email I received was pre- invention system, when there was no incentive for spammers to send emails about PL/money laundering services.

Until a friends only filter is installed or something, i expect the email system to simply remain a chore to complete on each login of removing the spam so the little red button goes grey.

I am on board with /signing any feature upgrade that either A) removes the email system completely , or B) fixes the email system so that there is a filter only allowing global friends to send emails to my inbox.

They are making it WAY too easy on the spammers.

1. Yes. I've received a few legit e-mails.
2. Yes. I've sent a few legit e-mails.

Usually legit e-mails are SG related. However, I've also used it to send copies of rotating keybinds to friends. Never thought of using it to remind myself of "tasks".... clever, that.

Yes I have sent one, yes I have received one.

Most were long before we had global handles or channels. I do have one from around I16 where a coalition leader invited one of my SG leaders to some coalition event.

More recently, for a while some folks I play with used them to give everyone TF completion timestamps for TFs we ran daily. No one's done that in a while, though.

The vast majority of e-mails I get are spam.

But I do occasionally send and receive some real ones.

It's actually not that different from regular, non-CoH e-mail.

Nope, not a one.

Sad really.

Yes from one of my SG members

Good question, and apart from the odd Global friend mailing me once in a blue moon my inbox is always full of big fat spammerz.

Kinda like my ignore list

No and No.

It sounds to me like adding filters to display only emails from SG members, and one to display only emails from people on your friends list, and adding a Delete All button, would pretty much fix the email problem for most people without taking anything away.

Once upon a time...

I used the email system. Mostly when a friend and I were playing on different sides, and one of us forgot to set the permissions on the options... We used the emails to remember ourselves about that...

I also talked with a few other friends on it, when we werent connected on different hours.

Then came the first waves of spam. Slowly the legitimate emails were drowned... First i reported all the spammers. Now... i just dont care. For me the Email button is now always red. Red as in: Dont touch - Poisonous.

A toggle of "only accept emails from Global Friends" would be... perfect!

Not since they implemented the global chat handles. Now most people just send tells to your global even if off line you will get it when you log in on any character, rather then the email to one character.

Yes. I and friends send emails with binds, macros, event information, MA arc #s, and out of game information like books and author names quite often. It's easy to misplace pen and paper notes, not a game email.

Just because you don't use the system doesn't mean others aren't clever enough to do so.

Yep agree
I just wish they would just disable e-mail to those who are reported as spam already.

I have received real e-mails in game, but not in... several years. It's an outdated system and should just be put out to pasture, in my opinion.

I used to get emails about related goings on occasionally before i9. Since then, I got one once but accidentally flagged it as spam before I realized what it was. Sorry to whoever I ignored, but I'm sure you've moved off my ignore list by now considering I've been cycling names off that list for about 7 months solid.

I got one once form a friend who I told to send me one explaining details about something we planned in game cuz we weren't gonna be on at the same time for a few days... and a few from someone else who asked asked how I managed to get 99% of old empath badge (i.e. 990+ mil healing points) in under 2 weeks (they saw the heal totals on the info kiosk).

Other than that, none really.

Once.

Years ago. I wouldn't care if email stopped working entirely. It's just an annoyance I have to deal with every time I login. Stupid spam emails from trial accounts.

Honestly, how much money would an MMO lose if they just flatout banned China entirely? Here comes a whole flood of "Gasp! You're a racist!" posts from the high and mighty crowd, now that I suggested exactly what everyone knows would actually flatout solve the problem.
