Have you ever gotten an email that wasn't spam?
1. Yes but only 4 times out of the thousands of spam i have gotten.
2. No email is worthless so i never use it

Once. My first day playing. In the Tutorial, someone who was nice enough to show me the ropes showed me how to use the in-game email system. She told me to respond to the email, and I did. That was it.
Thank you, Champion.

Once.
Years ago. I wouldn't care if email stopped working entirely. It's just an annoyance I have to deal with every time I login. Stupid spam emails from trial accounts.
Honestly, how much money would an MMO lose if they just flatout banned China entirely? Here comes a whole flood of "Gasp! You're a racist!" posts from the high and mighty crowd, now that I suggested exactly what everyone knows would actually flatout solve the problem.
[/ QUOTE ]
An American in the game was rude to me. So my suggestion to fix the problem is to ban all USAmerican accounts.
Seriously, what the hell. Except for actually citing any numbers, you just say "everyone knows". You know, just how everyone knows black people are retarded and therefore only useful for manual labour, or how everyone knows that hard thinking hurts a woman's womb and so its in their best interest to stay in the kitchen, barefoot and pregnant.
Hell, if anything else, any phrase that means "now I'm not a racist, but...", means that you're just a bloody racist and you know it.
Wouldn't the problem be fixed if they would just offer a button to recieve only from friends on your friendslist and SGmates with the button defaulted to be on?
How hard can that possibly be to do?

/e conspiracy theory
Possibly the devs are reluctant to shut off the gold spammers entirely, because like other games that offer only lip service outrage to the practice, it seems to be more beneficial than detrimental for new players to be able to buy "gold" in whatever form it takes. Frustration is bad for any game.
Nonetheless, games must appear to be up in arms against the practice, lest they be seen as abetting the practice.

Once. Way, way, way back in Issue 4 from a friend who was leaving the game for awhile very suddenly.
Nope. Never sent one because anyone I want to talk to I usually see online anyway. Given the way I just mass delete any e-mail I get, in game and in RL, I'm not big on the idea of e-mail. Chances are it'd never be read anyways.
[ QUOTE ]
I have gotten about 6-8 and sent 7-10, but that has been in almost 5 years of play.
All of these e-mails were between supergroup members. A filter so that I could have gotten e-mail from sg members only would have kept all spam from my inbox.
Anyone that I'm a global friend with, I just send a tell to anyway, so I don't really need the e-mail function in order to communicate with them.
By and large, the e-mail system is worthless to me - less than worthless actually as it is an on-going pain to have to deal with the spam in order to turn of that red "you've got spam" light at the top of the chat window.

This.
I'd just like the option to turn it off for my accounts. No one I know ingame needs to send me an ingame email. Not a single person. They all either know my email address or they have other means of reaching me (fansite forum PMs, phone, etc). CoX's mail system isn't useful to me at all (I'd like to be able to transfer stuff between characters on the same account without having to log in the second account to do it) so just having the option of turning it off completely would be the best QoL fix I could imagine.

In roughly 5 years and the 5 accounts between my wife and I, I've received maybe 3 total. One was from my nephew to whom I gave my original account and the others I think were from my wife teasing me.

That's great news. My back's been killing me, and my regularly scheduled massage appointment isnt for another week. Who's looking for work
I don't think I've gotten a legit one. I believe ages ago I sent a legit one as I had to much for a /tell to work.
Now, I see that annoying red lettering, pop it open, delete or spam down the list, close it. Probably would miss any legit emails.
I want an "Email Off" option...
Only a few times in the past 5 years, Most who know me but not in RL will get on my TS server or our SG Page. The rest will message via the global tells or the tradiational text message/phonecall.
The RMT has toileted the email system and you will get the SPAM if you are not hidden.

I was in a Villain group for a while that communicated thier rules/rewards system by email. That was very productive and useful.
It also consists of the 1 and only email I've ever recieved or sent that wasn't spam.
This thread implies something that is fairly obvious. Email can be done away with without affecting a lot of people's game. However, I really see no reason to remove a feature from the game that's already coded. But adding a simple option to turn off emails would give many people what they want. Even better would be an option for filters that allow email from friends and SG members.
I gotta make pain. I gotta make things right. I gotta stop what's comin'. 'Least I gotta try.
Well, as I say, I just don't see the point of adding an option to turn off email all together. If you don't use it, don't open it. Not that I'm against it, just seems pointless. Again, though, I am all for the filter option. But, as for calling it "simple", standard code rant applies.

(Per the OP post)
I receive the occasional e-mail from people that are otherwise having a difficult time getting online to contact me. For example, taxis that have gone overseas for indefinite periods, or people that have been hit by economic issues, etc.
Sometimes people have questions the Taxibots themselves, so they toss me an in-game e-mail for more information.
I must say that the Spam button has been a *great* tool for eradicating unwanted messages. Easy to use, takes no time at all, as opposed to old days when it was necessary to /petition the spammers.

couple of times, usually it was from one of the officers of my SG/VG with some info about something going on soon, a raid or whatever

This is almost what I was going for. I'm amazed at how many responses I've gotten though.
My exact feelings:
1. Don't just remove email. There's never any sense in removing a feature. As proved in the thread, there are also people who still use it.
2. Leaving it alone would be fine by me, however I feel an improvement to the system would be warranted. I'm content just hitting the spam button.
3. Best solution would be to add a friend/SG filter option.

I used it to send my alts reminders and notes and I have tons of emails from ex-patriots that have quit the game over the years and such.
I keep hoping the email will be someone making a comment about my AE mission. Instead it is always, always spam.

In the case of, say, WoW? About 2/3 to 3/4 of their customer base, I'd estimate. And that's probably just the legit accounts. It wouldn't stop the problem, too. China isn't the only place they come from by far. That -IS- a racist stereotype.
