I'd love to play another superhero MMO, but I found both CO and DCUO to be seriously lacking.
I might check out SWTOR again. I did enjoy the game for about the first month I played, but burned out pretty quickly. -
A few years ago, I would have been thrilled with this Flying Carpet; I have a character (Arabian Night) who desperately needed some "Middle Eastern" flavor. Alas, as with so much of what has been released recently, it just doesn't do enough to excite me. I have months worth of points stockpiled because there hasn't been anything I've wanted to purchase.
Although these purchasable powers would have been vastly preferable as customization options for the true travel powers, I could live with them, even with their severe limitations, if only they looked better. The color schemes of the Carpet and, especially, the Rocket Board, is completely at odds with any character I would want to use them with. Until these things are customizable or, more realistically, available in multiple color options, I will continue to pass on them. -
A fair and accurate review, I thought. There were a few "huh?" moments; I didn't get the comment about the camera at all. (But then I've played the game so long, maybe I learned to auto-compensate for it long ago.) I definitely agree about the slow pace of combat in the game. Having recently begun playing a very new MMO, CoH's combat feels so sluggish it might as well be turn based.

I love this pack, and couldn't hit the "purchase" button fast enough. I love that we're finally starting to see some variety. I've been green with envy at some of the great costumes that "other game" has been getting, while we were being given set after set of armor.
While I love the set in concept, its content is a very mixed bag. The "Think Tank" is sheer brilliance. I've had a character name reserved for *years* that I've never been able to come up with an adequate design for, and this piece finally made the character come together.
I also love the Vampire collar; I've wanted something like this for years. The high collar from the Magic pack was a barely acceptable substitute, but I'm thrilled with this new addition. These two pieces alone made the set with the price.
The bats aura is terrific, and I think I'll find use for both the Ascot and Brooch once they're fixed. The Medusa hair and Spider Web wings are nice, although I don't have any characters or concept that could make use of them. The Fish Monster pieces are very nice also, with only two complaints. First, I wish the "antenna" were removable, and I wish they had made a full body pattern to match the gloves and boots.
As for the not-so-good pieces, I would probably like the Beehive hairstyle if it didn't have the flip. (I also don't get it's association with the horror theme.) The included faces are not good, ranging from bad (Medusa), worse (Male Vamp) and worst (Female Vamp.) -
I think this is the first time in 7 years that I have seen a character intended to be humorous that was actually ... humorous. Good job.

I liked the first episode: creepy, stylish, quirky. This is, so far, the first show of the new season I have any interesting in watching.
It will be interesting to see if the story can sustain itself. The problem with "haunted house" stories is that the solution is too easy: MOVE OUT. Unless the story is structured in a way as to explain why the characters don't do this, they just look like idiots. -
I have nothing to add here that hasn't already been said; however, I bought the set, despite serious reservations, and feel compelled to add my comments to slightly offset my vote-by-wallet.
As others have said, I think it's absurd to redesign a group with an eye to giving the pieces to players -- and then not give them the best, and most desired, pieces. If NPCs are going to have pieces we can't, I'd just assume see the COT back in their full robes. I'm even more miffed by the COT redesign than I was before, because we didn't even get much out of it aside from another overly busy costume minus all of the "exotic" pieces that would have made it exciting. -
I like the costume. I think the Jule Newmar/Earth Kitt look is the best the character has ever had, so I'm glad they went with it. On the other hand, I think the current goggle look is preposterous -- all the more so in the upcoming Arkham City, with her cleavage on display like first prize in a raffle.

I rather like the animation: looks like Bruce Timm crossed with The Incredibles (done on the cheap, obviously). What kills it for me is the increased blurring between Hal Jordan and Kyle Raynor. If they wanted Green Lantern as a semi-goofball, they should have used Kyle. Turning Hal into Kyle is just dumb.

I'll go against the grain here: I didn't care for the show. I was unconvinced by its Bourne Meets Minority Report premise, It also seems like it's going to plop him into a different "story" each week -- and I honestly can't think of a single show that's used that framework (Quantum Leap, Highway to Heaven, etc) that I have ever enjoyed.
This one's off the DVR schedule already, since absolutely nothing about it made me interested in seeing more. -

If nothing else, I hope there are some good cowboy/girl boots in this set. The ones we have now look absolutely ridiculous. A few weeks back I used some Steampunk pieces mixed with some others to make a pretty good "Bandit Queen" (which was surprisingly available as a name) but the boots ruin the look and render her unplayable.

I had the same error yesterday, despite having both the User name and Password filled in. Closed the program, restarted, and it hasn't happened since.
-
I'd pay for it (assuming it were to be reasonably priced, of course.) I have a few characters whose concepts evolved significantly from their inception. It's a pretty minor thing -- I honestly can't remember the last time I even noticed the Origin of another player's character -- but it still irks me.

These things are shockingly, appallingly, overpriced. If they gave you the powers of the NPC that you're changing into, I could maybe see the price being justified. But for only a non-customizable costume that actually limits your character in some regards? If the price was cut in half, and cut in half again, it would still be overpriced.

Quote:No new player, already familiar with others MMOs, has ever played COH in the last 7 years? Because out of all of the bajillion complaints I've read on these forums through the years, I have never once seen someone comment that they had a hard time finding their contacts. You realize this is staple kind of thing of MMOs, something that people expect and would be criticized if it was absent when this game goes F2P.
I don't care if the Floating Coins stay, but I would very much like a way to turn them off. They are a garish, tacky distraction. -
Although the de-toggling isn't ideal, I can live with it. What stopped me from buying the Rocket Board is the look of the thing. I don't have a single character, or even pending concept, that can make use of a flying red & white surfboard. When this thing is released in different colors, and preferably different styles, my money will soon part my hands.

My first purchases were:
Beam Rifle
Enhancement slot expansions (both)
the Barbarian costume set
the Cape/Wings unlock
the Aura unlock -
I reserved the names of some of my favorite Champion characters:
Kid Lazarus
Blood Countess
Rain-Maker
Arabian Knight
Tokusatsu
I also managed to snag the "correct" version of names that I had to compromise with on Champion:
Freek (perverted as Freeek on Champion)
Captain Quantum (Commander Quantum on Champion)
Doctor Arcanum (Dr. Arcanum on Champion)
And finally I was able to grab the following names that I had been previously denied to me:
Swashbuckler
Juice
Safire
Vulcanus -
Not a fan of the idea. There's been such a push to making the game easier and more convenient that has had the cumulative effect of making the game a bit like bowling with the gutter bumpers up.
As long as I can still play with the gutter bumpers down though, it matters little to me how others are playing. -
Quote:Agreed, across the board. I've been green with envy at some of the costume sets that other game has released, while we just keep getting armor, armor and more armor. I hope the Barbarian set is an indication that we'll be seeing more variety. The barbarian stuff looks good, except for those thigh-highs. I hope that those are not the only new boot choice. Red Sonja wouldn't be caught dead in those. The White Queen might wear them but she's about the furthest thing from a barbarian.
At least it's not Yet Another Suit of Armor.
I think that female Barbarian set needs to be re-thought though. It's a fine costume, but nothing about it says "barbarian." If not a outright female Viking look, at least give us a Red Sonya-esque chainmail bikini or a Sheena style animal skins outfit. -
Agreed. Having a tailor in every zone for QOL is nice; adding the function to the trainers is kind of lazy and half-*****. If a tailor is needed in every zone, then add an Icon/Facemaker in every zone. Heck, just give us /tailor. It makes more sense for my characters to make their own costumes, then it does for them to go to the top tier heroes in the city and have them sew for me.

Two words: Mind Control.
(I hate to be snarky, but I never understand why RP'ers have such a hard time RPing their way through scenarios.)
