Show debuts at 10 PM on FX.

The 5 minute preview definitely gives off a Stephen King Shining vibe.
(Won’t link to it due to forum rules)

Who else plans to watch it?

I might check it out for the milftastic Connie Britton.

I liked the first episode: creepy, stylish, quirky. This is, so far, the first show of the new season I have any interesting in watching.

It will be interesting to see if the story can sustain itself. The problem with "haunted house" stories is that the solution is too easy: MOVE OUT. Unless the story is structured in a way as to explain why the characters don't do this, they just look like idiots.

Well...there's always the problem of finding someone to buy your haunted house. Price it too low and people wonder what's wrong with it. Price it at going rate and you may not find anyone for it. Try selling it yourself and people may think your nervous glances and whatnot are signs that you aren't being truthful with 'em.

That was interesting.

So is it his baby or fetish man's?

Daughter reminds a mix of Winona Ryder's Lydia from Beetlejuice and Victoria from Heathers.

Love Jessica Lang's character and the housekeeper.

I enjoyed it, and it looks promising. Season recording set up.

This and New Girl are the two standout new shows for me so far.

It was creepy way to creepy I honestly don't know if I will watch it anymore, a part of me does want to watch it to find out all secrets but a part of me doesn't want to watch it, I don't like having nightmares. :/

It really wasn't as creepy as I expected it to be, though I did get he feeling that this episode was just simple setup for more creepiness later. I got more of a "weird" vibe from the show, and I mean that in a good way. I enjoyed the first episode and it seems like it has a lot of potential (though, like their last show Glee, I can't see the premise lasting more than two, three seasons tops). They fit a surprising amount into one episode, and I'm looking forward to next week's.

It was too much for a family member who watched it with me (I accidentally failed to let her know just how scary it would be).

Partway thru she turned to me & said, “Thanks a lot. Now I’m going to have nightmares for the rest of the night.”

As for myself I’ve grown up on a steady diet of horror movies, I found it to be creepy, but not to the point where it would cause nightmares.

I will definitely be watching for the rest of the season.

I'll give it another episode or two but I was rather meh about it last night.. I kept falling asleep. Overall I didn't find it even remotely scary or creepy... just weird in a meh way. I'm almost expecting another The Others reveal at somepoint..

Yeah, I don't know. When you've got ghosts trying to kill your family, property value isn't really all that important.

It is if you've got a big ol' mortgage. The worst the ghosts can do is kill ya.

For me it was just too much... Not too creepy, but rather too much thrown into one episode. To me, proper horror is a build up of creepiness, a slow escalation which allows the people in the story, and the viewer, to not just cut and run, but rather think they can handle it. This show, imo, threw just way too much in way too fast. Heck, it all seemed to happen within the first couple of days of their moving in. I just do not think there is a sustainability factor, nor really an escallation factor.

All in all, I may watch the second episode but really I don't see me getting all that involved in this.

Actually just finished watching the first episode. Very weird and very creepy. Though I could definitely do without Dylan McDermott's naked ***. Now, if it Connie Britton's (that's who is playing the mom right?) or Young Moira, that would make for a much more interesting show.

I'm thinking that kid is actually part of the house rather than some real patient.

I whole-heartedly agree. Part of a good horror is the mystery. Just throwing out the "Oh hey, ghosts" really killed an atmosphere they could have built up. The scene in the basement is a prime example of where they fumbled. Instead of a brief glimpse at something otherworldly, the flashed it across the screen repeatedly.

I think Jessica Lange as Constance should be the new face for the Dos Equis ads.

This show is very weird and creepy but I can't stop watching it, I don't know there is just something about it, I want to know more.

Excellent episode last night. I felt the creep factor moved up a bit more, and there was one person I never expected to see killed who got the axe. The unfolding of the house's history is paced out pretty good so far.

I'd really like to know who the Gimp is at this point. Dead? Alive? Home wrecker?! I must know!!

Yeah it was strange seeing you know who die, especially since Constance was in a state of denial over it.

And I loved Zach Quinto's way over the top acting. I miss Sylar, I may have to rewatch Heroes.

Also, as I pointed out to my fiancee, @Anasthesia, this show brings a whole new meaning to that bit from "Pulp Fiction,"

Quote:
Zed: Bring out the Gimp.
Maynard: Gimp's sleeping.
Zed: Well, I guess you're gonna have to go wake him up now, won't you?
Even though I am wondering who it is myself. At first I thought it was Chad (Zach Quinto), now I'm not so sure. Unless the Gimp is the Keyser Soze of "American Horror Story" and several people play him at least once.

I believe the Gimp is Tate. We saw him wearing the costume, he is somehow connected to the house (dead or alive,) he may or may not be Constance's "lost son."

I've figured he's her son, just based on the glances between the two. But I'm not sure he's the Gimp. I'm guessing it will be someone we haven't been introduced to yet.

The question is; is he dead or alive?

Every week I begin to feel a little more sorry for Moira. God I hope she gets Constance back somehow, and good (like if she was the one driving the car in the last episode.)

I think the main thing about AHS is there are not any real heroes. 4 episodes in, and I like the show, but there's not a single character I can identify with as being a good person.

Yes, Tate may have been the Gimp in that one instance, but I doubt Tate was the Gimp in that scene with Connie Britton. Also, it's implied that she, Chad, and Violet all see the Gimp in different ways. I think the Gimp is the personification of the house, and the one thing the main characters, and the viewers, can perceive as the Generic force that we can all love/hate.

We've seen how everyone else in the show has been a jerk, at least once. Even Violet setting up the bully for the showdown in the basement with Tate, but the Gimp has only been seen when someone is in an emotional crisis, ie, Connie's character in afterglow, Chad when freaked out about the fact that if they don't sell the house they have no money, and Violet when Burned Guy (aka Russell from 'True Blood') is slamming on the door demanding his cash for killing Hayden while she (Violet) is home alone.

I think the Gimp is like 'The Shrike' in Dan Simmon's "Hyperion" novels. He may be good, he may be bad, but it's all perspective, and something to focus your wants, and fears, upon.

Oh, he's dead. I think the Halloween episode is the only one he's been away from the house. He's a ghost, alright.

Ok now I know about Tate, I also think that Tate's father and the baby Vivian is carrying has the same father and that is the guy in the black gimp suit.
