I really think they should through a temp power and a few more cotume peices in the science booster, and just make the height adjuster included in issue 15 or 16.

Not targeting you specifically (you're just the most recent commenter), but this general attitude makes me laugh.

People complain that they won't buy the booster packs unless there's something they want in there.

Then when the booster pack comes out with something good in it, people complain that it should be taken out and given to the players for free. Often, these two groups are exactly the same people. The whole situation is actually rather funny.

[/ QUOTE ]

Every player is going to have a different list of what should be in the basic game (with a few universals, I would think, like capes and tights) without having to resort to being forced into spending more money to get the feature (to head off the inevitable, "forced" is the correct term, since the hypothetical feature will ONLY be open to those who will pay for it and ONLY those who pay for it, therefore the only way to acquire it is if money changes hand thus if you want the feature you are forced to purchase it unless someone, somewhere comes up with a way to get it without a transfer of money).

In this specific case, I agree that the ability to alter "the sliders" should be a base function open to all rather than gated behind a $10 purchase, but that's just my particular list. I don't feel that way about the "body swapping" part, and think it's fine for that to be in the pack and locked away from those who didn't shell out the cash. I would guess there's a number of people who think exactly the same way, another group who thinks I'm half right and a number who don't agree at all.

The question is where does one (the Devs in this case) draw the line between "definately should be universally accessable in the base game even though people would pay for it" and "cool enough to pay for but not so utterly cool it should be universally accessable"?

I honestly wasn't too thrill with the Mad Scientist theme of the costume set (although it was infinitely predictable and some of the goggles and breathers are quite cool) but then I happened to find the name Orwellian free and think that the scientist coat combined with some pants and drab colors might make for a nice Stalinisque costume for a mind control villain. It's a work in progress but I'm looking forward to trying it out.

We can look at the Booster Pack evolution:

1. Wedding Pack - included some costume pieces and a few emotes.
A huge success, with great sales.

2. Tech Pack - Costume pieces, emotes, and additional personnal fluff power
Magic Pack - same as above
Great sales for these 2 packs

3. Science Pack - Costume pieces, emotes, new layer of character costumization with an exclusive in game contact.

Originally just some costume bits and emotes were considered enough, and it had sales to prove it. Now we've moved to exclusive contacts and long wanted features. I never believed the past slippery slope arguments ... until now.

What is the next booster, an exclusive power set? I used to think that no way would that happen, not so sure anymore.

I'm just waiting to see if they take the most requested power set ever, Dual Pistols, and put it in Going Rogue to force folks to buy it.

I'll be buying GR anyways, but I'm curious to see if they offer Dual Pistols and Demon Summoning as a seperate purchasable package, or if buying GR for $50 will be the only way to get the set.

I can see new powersets being offered in an expansion , like CoV had. I still think that they'll give those sets to everyone though.

You what might have been a more acceptable power for the booster pack? A portable tailor. I can't be the only person who has an itch to change a costume RIGHT THIS SECOND! every once in a while.

My money is squarely on the premise that Dual Pistols is going to be exclusively in Rogue. Its just a funny feeling I have....

Seems likely.
But I'd expect them to make a GvE style bonus pack at some future time, making some of the GR stuff available to folk who didn't want to buy the expansion.

new ATs would be an interesting frontier for the microtransaction system to explore.

Was this supposed to be pushed live with I15. I can't seem to be able to buy it yet.

[/ QUOTE ]You don't know that. A previous booster came later in the day. Just have to wait and see. Of course, as usual, it's too much of a chore for a Dev to confirm whether or not it might be today.

or maybe they're all running around with their hair on fire because they just sent a new issue out the door?

I'm not so sure. I think alot of people are bothered that they have to spend an xtra $10 to get very minor things like a costume piece. If we were actually offered something cool like a power set or new AT for $10....I don't think that many people would complain.

If you believe that, I've got an apartment building in Dark Astoria to sell you.

The devs could give away free gold and people would whine that it was too heavy.

Really? Have you forgotten that they give us new powersets and the like for FREE, and yet people STILL kvetch?

Nothing's free- we pay a subscription fee to log into the game. The point of new content is to keep us paying that fee.

Microtransactions are a great additional source of revenue, but they also run the risk of turning off players if they go to that well too often.

[/ QUOTE ]Indeed, and if they gave out powersets/ATs as microtransactions you'd get people saying how that was the one powerset they wanted for XYZ character and how the devs are horrible for making them pay for it since they have no money. Or other folks going on about how it's surely a sign showing that the devs will never release anything without our having to pay for it again. Blah blah blah blah.

As cool as I think the overall idea is it'd almost have to coincide with a release of the same sort of content that was free, and even then people would find things to complain about.

Did they ever announce a release date for the booster?

I don't recall one.

If they didn't, I'm not sure that correcting some people's mistaken assumptions needs to be at the top of their 'to do' list.
