    R.I.P. Muad_Dib

So sorry to hear this, rest in peace Maud_Dib and condolences to your family.
  2. Sweet find! When can I place my pre-order?
  3. Great soundtrack, Chasing the Dream is my favorite. Wish it was a wee bit longer.

Not necessarily a problem in and of itself, but they then roll the die and if they pick Galaxy they will load in and again see no one (this is the case even on Freedom usually). Is that really presenting a MMO in the best light?

I rolled up a blaster about a month ago on my original server (Infinity). I ran the tutorial, chose Galaxy, then went to Kings, then went to Steel. I didn't see another player until I was level 11 ninja jumping my way to Valkyrie. If I was a new player and experienced that there would be zero chance I'd continue playing this game because frankly there are better single player superhero games on the market.

*why not choose atlas? because there is a 50% chance of not choosing it and I was pretending I was new to the game so I chose a server I have no idea of any channels and no friends to look me up.

I don't really care one way or the other who likes to play on an empty server and who likes to play on a less empty server in this game. But can anyone honestly say that a new player is going to get a good MMO experience if they pick a server like Infinity?

*The reason I mentioned the tutorial in my last post was nostalgia. It wasn't until I reached the end that I remembered it was an open instance and then I fondly remembered running it around other lvl 1 newbs.

I think when GR launches they should disable starting in Paragon City or the Rogue Isles with a new character on any account that is less than 1 month old. Think about it for a second. All of us are going to be in Praetoria. Can you imagine how bad (ie deserted), even compared to now, that your starting experience would be if you didn't choose to start in Praetoria? I mean you probably wouldn't see anyone else even on freedom during that period. Imagine the other servers. If they want any new player to stick with the game, pray they select Praetoria with their new toon. If you can't make it the only option for new players at least put some big flashing arrows pointing to it so they know they should pick it.
This is a very real problem, the starting restriction for new players would be a terrific way to funnel new players into a lively area and allow them form bonds with other new people and vets alike.

Although I don't support server merges, it may be a good idea to list the 3rd and 4th largest pop servers at the top of the server selection screen, putting new players that just click the top server when selecting a server into medium population servers. Once they learn the game some they can build future characters on lower or higher pop servers to fit their play styles. This of course would require more programming than the more simple high → low or the low → high display we have now.
  5. Please bring back the original versions of trenchcoats, before the lower half was ballooned out.

The current version that looks like your character is wearing an invisible bustle below the coat looks awful, more so on the split coat option. Unfortunately I have no pictures of the old ones.
  6. Happy birthday WW, 29 is a good place to unplug your odometer.

The devs from the Paragon Studios era ARE the devs from the Cryptic era. So your argument is off kilter.

One thing I like about anniversary badges is that they sort of track what year your character was created.

All that being said, yeah I'd love for the anniversary badges to be global!
    Very good point.

Maybe we can get the 'logout to character selection screen' option, and reduce the logout timer to 20 seconds. It would make things so much more pleasant.

    These are pretty good!
  11. Just a tip, telling people that CoH has in game advertising, is bad advertising.
  12. Greetings invisible creature of Myth and Legend! I am one who believes we must extend advertising beyond just gaming sites and comic book stores.

WoW is so huge because it was able to get beyond the "gaming and geek universe". It has pulled in the young , old, parents, co-workers, family and friends, many of which had never played an MMO before. The good thing about this is that WoW educated so many about what an MMO is. A wise thing to do would be to draw from peoples knowledge of WoW and horizontally move it to CoH.

    1) The best away to reach these non-gamer gamers is through TV ads, yes they are expensive, but I bet an ad on Heroes is much cheaper these days. Ads run on SyFy would be good too.Again start the ad with a WoW reference so that the audience moves into that realm of thinking, then pulls them over to COH, lniking the two ideas in their head, for example:

"Tired of Orcs and Elves? Then it's time for kicking *** and taking names..." queue CoH video.

    2) Don't let the ingame ad discussion clutter up this discourse. Ingame ads, advertise TO us, they do not advertise us to others.

3)Do not UN-advertise, running 24/7 threads for Cryptic games is bad business practice, those threads which are never allowed to fall of of the first page. Together have garnered over 200,000 views, not shabby marketing there!Game discussions should be limited to general chat about how good or bad a game is, or talk of up coming games. Maintaining a regular ongoing game forum should not be allowed.Community comes with any game you play, if the community and forums in that game are bad then those players should make a fan site to use, not to run free advertising here.

Yes all new content from 1 to 20 isn't enough, we must have all new content from 1 to 50 today! There are no Issues planned to be released after Going Rogue - ever.
  14. Going Rogue ---> all new level 1 through 20 contacts and missions.

If memory serves me, the Sony / NCsoft collaboration was suspended some time ago. Plus it would have CoH2 compete with Sonys' own DCUO on the PS3, so prolly not.

:x Sorry.. I just think they are lightyears ahead of the game in terms of graphics and style compared to clunky western games. AoC and CO were two big relatively recent western launches that look horrible. And look at some new ones coming out.. Guild Wars 2 and Secret Planet??? Hideousness compared to TERA Online and Blade and Soul. *sigh*
The Cryengine that Aion runs on is made by a German company, Crytek.

Yeah that was some mortuary humor, sorry about that. Although it won't hurt having the devs see that the Cryptic engine is something that people don't want.

I had the same issue as poptart fairy with the inconsistent functioning of the engine when playing CO. I've had absolutely none of those problems when playing Aion, and the Crysis engine just looks far superior IMO. It already has the flying mechanic built in, but I do miss having the ragdoll physics that we enjoy in CoH.

No. None of that matters. I want to look at different interiors. Ugh...
So very true, particularly the mention of the customization available in CoH. Especially considering the guy that first said it had originally played WoW before coming to CoH. On a positive note if GR does have some new maps, I believe these players will return.

Here's a real doom post. What if Paragon Studios licenses the Cryptic Engine to make CoH2?

I doubt it would happen, but if it did ... ugh.

Man, now that would be freakin' amazing!

Wasn't there a job position being advertised that mentioned quadruped design experience in the description?
  21. For what it's worth, I was telling two of my coworkers, both of whom played CoH previously, about Going Rogue. The first thing that was said, "Is it going to use the same four office and warehouse maps?"
  22. The site Aionsource (not an official NCSoft site) had a virus, and many who went to it were hit, your account info isn't stolen by playing Aion.
  23. Grats on your Art Lead promotion David, we've been lucky enough here to have seen your artwork, and to know that you're more than qualified to take that helm.
  24. Grats to City of Heroes! Still a winner after 6 years of kickin' *** and takin' names.

Also grats to Aion, keep up the good work NCSoft.
  25. Back in the old days, I was happy just to have the cash to buy a few SOs to slot. And even then we had to walk barefoot, uphill five miles in the snow to get 'em.
Influence and enhancement slotting is cake already.
