Fodder for the Canon: Ask your lore questions here
Heh, you know, it might have been more appropriate if Mother Mayhem had been named Sister Psycho ... ;-)
*Anxiously awaiting the next response to our questions.*

When CoV originally came out, one of the pack in collectors items was a poster with a "villains vs heroes battle scene". On the veeery far right hand side of that scene behind Ghost Widow was a character that was a creepy mixture of Tarantula Mistress and Spider Crab. What was that thing, and why haven't we ever heard or seen from it again? It appears to have been retconned out of existence like an out-of -favor member of the Communist party during Uncle Joe's heyday.
Someone thought it might be the once-mentioned and never spoken of again Weaver One.

A couple more questions.
Are the Nemesis Automatons that pose as real people powered by steam? Or do they use some other power source? Since they don't belch steam, and they fool so many people, I'm thinking that they don't use steam at all.
Second question, how exactly does Rikti telepathy function?
While reading this thread, I was wishing there was more information on the Shadow Shard and something similar to the Kheldian Backstory Guide.
While still no comprehensive guide to the Shadow Shard, I did gather up a collection of scattered links here.
Question: Who/what are the Soldiers of Rularuu? Are they other-dimensional beings? Are they transformed denziens of the Shadow Shard? Something else?
Excellent and most appreciated thread BTW!!!

The Shadow Shard has some of the biggest zones in this game. Why is there so little content? Heck, in it's own right, it could be a box expansion.

Lady-Dee: Hey my fat keeps me warm in the winter and shady in the summer.
My questions:
1. Are the two CoH comics series considered canon?
2. Where did the truck floating outside Pocket D come from and does it have any significance?

This isn't quite a lore question but I was wondering if Nemesis was inspired by Dr. Darius Hellstromme from Deadlands.

2. Where did the truck floating outside Pocket D come from and does it have any significance?
[/ QUOTE ]If you look at Pocket-D from beneath, there are girders and broken concrete. The structure was ripped out of a real-world location when moved to the shadowshard. I presume the truck was nearby when that happened.
How *does* one claim insurance on that?
Don't know if this really relates to lore, but what are the grammatical rules that the Rikti adhere to? It's kind of hard to include Rikti speech into AE plots when you don't know for sure if the line you wrote for them is in actuality how the Rikti would say it.

The ad appears in pretty much all the Top Cow comics. I just went to the front page and picked one at random and there it was. Epic Mecha Spider Person, far right side, silhouetted.

In what year was Ziggursky Penitentiary built?
In 2004-05, Mayor Morales was in office in Paragon City.
a) What is his full name (or at least his first name)?
b) Was Mayor Morales re-elected to another term in office? Has he since stepped down or lost the position to someone else?

[/ QUOTE ]A really efficient steam machine wouldn't need to expel the steam, but would instead allow it to cool and condense internally and re-use the same water again.
On the subject of Nemesis Automatons:
Programming? Or a true artificial intelligence?
Same question, only for Council robots. Their bios say they have an advanced AI, but the Rogue Robots arc implies that their programming keeps them in check.

Well it's been confirmed that Arachnos robots are "Soilent Green". That's why they sound like every other NPC.

2) Dr. Aeon's bio on the City of Heroes web site implies he was originally known as "Carl Egon", who reportedly possessed the ability to summon aid through trans-dimensional portals (presumably said aid being other dimensions' versions of himself). However, when heroes encounter him in the STF, his summons battle-cry implies that he is summoning versions of himself across time instead (a view of his powers supported by his own name, and also by his relationship to Professor Echo). What's the real story?
[/ QUOTE ]
Covered in-game: Marshall Brass, "The Aeon Conspiracy" and "Echo Down the Aeons," level 15-20 villains. Capsule summary: Carl Egon did built a remote-control portal to hell and used it to assassinate the previous governor of Cap au Diable. This was over-the-top even by Etoile Islands standards, so he "stood trial" and "was executed" on TV, then given a new name and face and installed as Governor Aeon. His real identity is a closely guarded Arachnos secret. He no longer has the particular hardware that he used to tap into hell (see Golden Roller), but is busy with other goofy ideas in the meantime (see about half of the villain arcs from level 15 to 50, and the Statesman Task Force). When you see him in the STF, he's summoning alternate-universe versions of himself through Arachnos' dimensional portal in Grandville.
[/ QUOTE ]
I've read all that. I think you're confused about Echo Down the Aeons; that arc reveals that Dr. Aeon is Carl Egon, but I've scoured the information and I don't see anything there about how Egon assassinated the previous governor (the summon-aid-through-portal thing is from the CoH official website info). The tapping-into-hell thing was revealed to be the PTS power source, and Aeon found it accidentally.
As for the STF, I don't see anything to indicate the clones are summoned through the dimensional portal in Grandville. ParagonWiki even refers to them as "temporal clones".
I admit I was confused by the battle cry; I thought he gave it when summoning clones, but it looks like he uses it when turning on his personal force field instead.
So, I'm still not convinced one way or the other. He's clearly mucking about with time, and Professor Echo at least can time travel, but it's unclear what the deal with his clones is.
And for a while things were cold,
They were scared down in their holes
The forest that once was green
Was colored black by those killing machines
Ok. I have a lot of questions.
1. When President Marchand was overthrown/assassinated, were there any other notable operatives involved (besides Red Widow)? Did Lord Recluse play an active role in the plot (besides planning it) For that matter, were there any notable villains (that we already know about) in Arachnos (Dr. Aeon, Regent Korol, the Patrons, etc.) or were they recruited later?
2. What exactly happened to the Ghost Ship Moraine? Was it sabotaged, did it crash, or did some other fate befall it?
3. How did Tommy Arcanus, Numina's father, die?
4. How long has the Shadow Shard been in the state it is currently in or has it always been that way?
Another question, sorry. Are there any Midnighters (past or present) with a background in exorcism? I need it for an arc I'm working on.
to TO THE END!

I looked in the inside flap of my dusty old original CoV box and sure enough, she/he/it is there too just as described.
One man's terrorist is another man's freedom (or freem?) fighter; just as one man's exploit is another man's feature.
A few questions about the First Ritki Invasion.
According to the timeline on the website, the invasion happened in May of 2002. The beta for the came ended with a massive invasion that killed off all the heroes at the time in preparation for the live game in May of 2004.
Was that a Second invasion, or was that the first invasion with the beta actually being set in 2002?* (I interpret things as if the end of beta event took place in May 2002, 2 years before the start of the game.)
Did any of the villains or gangs join in the fight? For example, would Skulls and Hellions have stood along side the Heroes when the Ritki landed?
What happened between the end of the first war in November 2002 and the start of game in May 2004?*
What happened to the bodies of the people in Boomtown? Are they still there? Were any recovered? I assume that at least some became Vahz creations, but since the fallen buildings are still there, It follows that there was no recovery effort. It actually works out better for me if most are still there, so I'm sort of Biased.
*The way I've filled in the blanks is as follows:
Nov 2002, the war ends but there are only the Surviving 8 to watch over Paragon. Over the next few months, more gangs and crime return and take over the city. This spurs a new call to those willing to put on the stretchy pants and get into the game. Would this fit?
My first short story (detective fiction) came out in Jan-2012. Other stories and books to follow, I hope. Because of "real writing". COH was a big part of that happening.
This came up a while back when a friend that knew I sometimes did a bit of contributing to the Wiki asked who the statue was in Steel Canyon that Positron stand in front of. Unsure myself I asked on the forums there and no one had a firm answer. So I did a bit of inspecting and took some screen shots.. the conclusion was IT'S M-1 the same tank that has a statue in Galaxy.
Okay first.. were we right?
Next since M-1 also has a statue in Peregrine what is the background on him? Obviously he must have done some pretty amazing things to have statues in 3 city zones and the one in Steel where he is at attention saluting is the center piece of the neighborhood. He's at attention and saluting in SC .. did he serve during World War II using his super powers to help the allies win the war?
Had a bit of a debate on this one and can't seem to find anything to solve the mystery. We all know the 5th column are Nazis left over from WW II and that they were eventually overthrown by the Council. I swear at some point in official COH background on the official site it stated the Council were Italian Facists but that particular web page doesn't seem to exist anymore (or maybe I am just crazy). To support MY argument in some of the radio missions we get that deal with Council the Arcons do have Italian last names. Am I right or wrong?
Okay this one I think I know but would like to confirm.. Pocket D is actually located somewhere in the Shadow Shard isn't it? Don't recall ever seeing that in writing but someone told me that and when you look out the wndow, past the floating truck, it sure resembled the Shard.

she appears to be a corruption of the tarantula mistress in the foreground. the face chest and for lack of a better word hips are near identical to the tarantula mistress seen in the center right foreground. The shoulder cowling, legs and arms are markedly different in their placement and she seems to lack the abodomen of a tarantula. That may be hidden in the light behind her. I would put her closest in game analog to the arachnoids but even that is a stretch. In any event she's a nasty character very inhuman and not a thing i would want to meet hero or villain side.

Mother Mayhem seems to be an Aurora Borealis Praetorian. Is there or will there ever be a Sister Psyche one?
[/ QUOTE ]
Technically Mother Mayhem is both Aurora Borealis and Sister Psyche. In our world Sister Psyche occupied the mind and body of Aurora Borealis after sustaining injuries in the Rikti War. Eventually Sister Psyche regained her original body and Aurora was set free again. (though there were some complications, see The Calvin Scott Task Force ) In Praetoria Mother Mayhem took over the body of Praetorian Aurora and never let her go free.
I suppose, I'm really just thinking of a rephrasement of the question. Will we ever see Mother Mayhem in her original body?
Edit: spelled psyche as psycho... curse you late night posting!
