Noble Savage is Wretch iirc.

No, he's an original character to Praetoria. Paolo Marino is a normal human who is currently handling a mission outside of Praetoria.

Question for a character I'm writing... According to Paragonwiki, Valkyrie's spear is from War/Warrior(Whatever) earth, as is Battle Maiden's halberd. We also know that Battle Maiden recruits warriors from War Earth as her personal guard.

1.) Is Battle Maiden ORIGINALLY from War Earth, or a praetorian that found War Earth?

2.) Is there much else known about War Earth?

3.) Is there anything known about Battle Maiden aside from what I stated already? There's almost no history info for her that I can find >_<

Thanks!

I have a similar question:

Does the nation of the Etoile Islands have a flag, national colors, or other such national iconics?

I have a few silly questions that may require you to make up something semi-official on the spot. However, there is such a wealth of material between the comics, mission dialogue, novels, and official background that maybe these have actual answers that I’ve missed:

Before the Rikti invasion, did Paragon City boast of any professional sport teams? If so, what were the sports, mascots, and colors? Does the University have any teams? Again, if so, what is/are the mascot and colors?

I’m guessing with the influx of heroes and superpowered arena bouts presumably open to the public, any professional sporting teams may have moved on to greener pastures. It kind of makes sense that there wouldn't be any now.

I’m curious about this specifically for a character’s background. I can certainly make it up but if there is anything even semi-official, I’d love to hear about it.

I gotta ask this: looking back on some of the back story on the site, it mentions a fiasco where Statesman, in the initial assault of the first invasion attacked three Rikti Saucers which promptly crashed and destroyed the neighborhoods they landed in.
Why didn't Statesman, who had already been a hero for quite some time now, know about these consequences.
I'm really just curious because it does seem almost out of character on his part, though we do have word from Hero 1 that Statesman's "a little too violent" at least around the time of the Rikti War.

Also I am feeling a bit sad that this and other questions probably won't be answered since Manticore's answer thread has not been updated in a year...

I ran into a similar problem when creating one of my characters who was still in high school. There's no official information on any schools other than Paragon University's existence and a few random course offerings, unfortunately. I went with the assumption that given Steel Canyon's (then) unique situation as a hub for both Yellow and Green line trams, it would be a perfect zone to house a high school. Thus was born Steel Canyon High School, home of the Steelworkers, school colors Steel (really more of a dull silver) and Ivory.

I hadn't really thought about primary schools, but Atlas and Kings Row would be natural choices for primary schools, while Talos and Skyway seem like good fits for middle schools.

Honestly, it would be nice for the devs to round out a bit more lore in terms of education in Paragon. But until they do, I think we as players might be able to work together to come up with some reasonable working material for possible schools in the greater Paragon City (and maybe even the Rogue Isles). Would prob fit best in another thread at this point, though, since this poor thread appears to be long-forgotten by the development team and Manticore in particular.

This thread was specifically Manticore's idea; to the best of my knowledge, only Hero1 knows the lore as well as he did.

And yes, I say did quite advisedly. According to mutual professional links, Sean Fish (Manticore) has not been with NCSoft for quite some time, and will not be updating this thread. I am given to understand Hero1 is still there, but like I said... most of the other writing devs simply don't understand the lore of the game as well to answer a lot of the questions that come up in this thread.

Hopefully, that will change.

Protean and Dr. Aeon are other 2 main writers, and they have a very good handle on the lore - which is kinda to be expected when they also have access to the lore bible

As a robot, Mutant and Natural origins would pretty much be ruled out from the start. From reading Tin Mage's letter, it sounds like he didn't have his magical abilities at the time of his initial construction. He also makes it clear that the heroic personality he developed was also not present at his construction, and he goes on to state that his becoming a hero was a direct result of his choices and his actions over his lifespan, not because of his construction. Based on this, I'd speculate that his origin was Magic, not Technology or Science.

I was wondering if it can be confirmed or not, whether Talos is still alive and fighting the monster Chimera under Talos Island (I've not gotten around to all the Lore about Talos yet)?

According to paragonwiki, which I know may not be correct (please let me know if its not), Talos stated "For thousands of years, I have been a protector of humanity." So this could easily mean he could still be alive fighting the monster Chimera under Talos. Especially since in the games lore it states "Known today as Talos Island, it is said that both Talos and the Chimera are still locked in mortal combat within its stony embrace."

I've always hoped to see a Task Force where we had to help a 300 ft Tall Talos fighting against a giant monster.

From what I remember about mythology, Talos was a metal giant whose blood was molten metal; he was one of the threats that the Argonauts had to face. I think he was constructed by Hephasteus, but I'm not 100% sure on that. If he is indeed a construct, then it would make perfect sense for him to be thousands of years old and still able to battle the Chimera today.

As for the dream of a TF with Talos in it, I'd love to see it too, or even Atlas vs. the Teal Serpent in an Ouroboros TF. Something about two giant monsters slugging it out, but with one of them on OUR side for once, appeals to me greatly.

I spoke with Posi and Protean at PAX, and they confirmed that Protean should probably take over this thread.

how come most of the mobs and minions of the Praetorian AVs you fight blueside/redside dont actually show up in praetoria?

O_O this always makes me curious... are they just all from a praetorian zone that doesnt exist yet...? orrrrrr wha? because there are plenty of existing factions and NPCs that we fight of praetorian origin supporting all the AVs, but they just arent in praetoria.

is there a second praetorian earth?

What year did the Hamidon War begin and end? Where do people who have fled Praetoria go?

Admittedly, I haven't looked much into it other than some light googling and wiki which turned up vague answers but nothing exact.

Mother Mercy's place... is that the same mansion that Manticore has in Primal Earth?

Second question: Praetorian Hamidon... does he have Recluse's dance card with the Well? Essentially, did the Praetorian Hamidon gain insight from Stefan Richter's spirit or somesuch to gain even more power?

Possible spoilers for some in the final paragraph. Consider yourself warned.

Not sure as to the mansion, although the two share quite a few similarities in structure. I was thinking that Manticore's mansion as seen way back in the comic was on flat ground, not on a hill or bluff. However, that was a long time ago, and I'd have to dig through far too many comics to find that particular one any time soon.

Now, this question about the Praetorian Hami is quite interesting. I've had my suspicions about this for some time, and I think that PraeHami has indeed assumed a position as one of the Well's candidates for champion. I don't think that Richter or his spirit would be involved, because if Praetorian Richter would have been "worthy" of the Well, he wouldn't have been killed so easily and so quickly by Cole. But there's no doubt that the two most powerful entities in Praetoria are Tyrant and PraeHami, so it's only natural to assume the Well is hedging its bets and backing both of them until they have a final showdown.

This also leads to some of my personal speculation about Primal Hamidon. Namely, I think that the Well has its eye on our version of Hamidon too. Obviously Hami isn't quite as powerful as PraeHami (yet), but it still is a entity of massive power and as such is worthy of the Well's interest. Also consider that one of the selectable rewards for a successful Hami raid is a handful of Incarnate shards (for an Incarnate character, of course). Sure, it's not a component in itself like Lady Grey, Statesman, Recluse, Imperious and Reichsman's TFs/SFs offer for successful completion, but it's still a clear-cut Incarnate reward! The ONLY TFs and SFs in the game that offer Incarnate rewards are ones involving a major character that has a connection to the Well; why would Hami raids be different just because the reward is shards instead of a full-blown component? Maybe the reward of shards instead of a true Hami component is meant to represent that the connection between the Well and Hami is tenuous at this time, in contrast to the clear, deep connections of the Well to Statesman, Recluse, Imperious, Hero 1 and Reichsman.

I have a few lore questions to ask after re-reading the CoH books for the 3rd time recently:

1. In "The Freedom Phalanx" it mentions that Shalice was 16 when she plucked the antidote from Nemesis mind in 1946, meaning she was born in 1930. Yet, according to other sources, she was born in 1920. So which is it?

2. What happens to the Furies after the the events in "Web of Arachnos"?

3. According to "Web of Arachnos" the Well of the Furies/Fountain of Zeus was not the source of power, but Pandora's Box. Where does the current Incarnate system fit in with this lore?

4. It also mentions that the 3 Sisters had opened the box 4000 year prior to Marcus and Stefan, so would mean that they are the same as them - Incarnates. How do they actually become the power which enables them to control the "fast path" incarnates?

5. Where is the box originally from if it wasn't from Earth?

Just a player here contributing, but a major lore geek, so take what you see below with a block of salt.

1) Dates are one of the single most contradictory thing in this entire game - and that's just when you use the in-game info! Add in the novels, the comics, and even the calendars posted by Paragon Studios, and it really goes nuts. :S

2) It's never really been discussed, unfortunately, which is a shame, coz it's a neat storyline. Strictly for myself, I wrote an AE arc that explores what happened to them after Recluse's rise to power (HELL HATH NO FURY), and then went on a bit further in my COH novels "The Course of Superhero Romance".

3) It seems to ignore or combine the power of Pandora's Box in with the actual Well itself.

4) Not quite sure I understand the question...

5) Chaos, perhaps?

What I was trying to get at was that (according to the book) the Furies gained their powers when they first opened the box, 4000 years previous. Wouldn't that sit them in the same "Fast Path to Incarnate" league as Recluse, Statesman etc? If so, how come they (I'm assuming it is them) can control Statesman, Recluse etc in game?

Now I know that they were allegedly spawned from the castration of Uranus by Cronos in Greek mythology, but we're talking CoH adaptation here.

From reading the dialogue from Ramiel's arc, it appears that it's the Well itself that possesses Recluse or Statesman, not the Sisters.

ah ok, that makes more sense. Although, saying Pandora's Box is controlling them would make even more sense (to me anyway)
