Oh btw.. I'm only assuming like everyone else that when you zone into this new praetoria zone coming in issue 16, your morality meter will be one or the other, hero or villain with a gray area in between.

My reason for this is that the system must prohibit people from becoming heroes or villains at 51%. If they didn't, then mules will be created to shuffle influence over to infamy and vise versa. This would also include the auction house, and access to contacts and stores.

I'm guessing in order for a player to have full access to either side, they must be at 70-90% on their meter in order to access anything. Otherwise there would be a huge loophole in the way people transfer funds and drops to villain side or hero side.

With a 20% gray area on your meter, you basically cannot access or trade anything until you reach 70-90%. This would keep folks from exploiting by crossing over when ever they see fit and causing mayhem. Not that there's anything wrong with a little mayhem, but it would add an unfair advantage to players who could switch so easilty at that 50% marker on the meter.

[/ QUOTE ]

At first I was against your argument, but then I thought about it and you have a very good point. I think they will have some mechanics in place that will balance this, but you do have an interesting theory there.

Although what you say at the begining: 1: it is not an "Issue" per-say, it is like CoV, a new game (almost). 2: the morality "compass",I don't think, will be EITHER hero or villian, but more of a meter FROM hero TO villain. Maybe.

There's another possibility, and that is that the meter unlocks the ability to switch sides, but its not automatic. If there was something equivalent to the cape or aura mission arc that was required to "formally" change sides, that would eliminate some of the side-switching issues you discuss.

Its also possible that players that switch sides would have to surrender influence and/or inventory items before crossing sides. Its hard to say what the restrictions will be. We don't even know if side-switched players will actually be able to trade with natives: its possible they will be able to trade things like inspirations, but not things like influence/infamy. I don't think we have enough information at the moment to even speculate on what gateways players will have to pass through to get from one side to the other. My guess, though, is that it won't be an uneventful occurance. If for no other reason than there is just too much temptation from a game design perspective to make a big deal out of side-switching as an in-game process. I doubt it'll be "ding! you're a villain now" and pop all of the tier 3 inspirations. I think it will be something slightly more grandiose.

You should really think outside of your little box; Rogue Isles are different from Paragon City and you may just like it. I am super-excited about the whole idea of Going Rogue. With that said, I think most people (like this poster) will just take the best thing about villains (villain ATs) and just roll them as heroes instead. I would venture to say there will be far more classic villain ATs rolled as heroes than classic hero ATs rolled as villains when this new expansion comes around.

Though the prospect of out of the box role changing is entertaining, I would sort of like to see you earn the right to cross over. Sort of like the way a VEAT chooses a path at 24. But on the other hand- people are able to powerlevel their way through those first 23 hours in no time these days, so the journey to that rite of passage wouldn't mean much anyway.

I kind of like the idea that influence and infamy are nontransferable. After all, they're not "blue dollars" and "red dollars" - they're supposed to be good/evil reputation! "Oh look, it's Captain Murder, killer of a thousand babies! I hear he's nice now, let's give him stuff."

Of course this completely ignores the actual functioning of the game system, but it's an enjoyable thought

maybe a player could hold both infamy and influence... could be one of the factors set in place to determine your side... if you have more influence than infamy... i dont know.... just a thought... out loud.. well typed anyways

City of Heroes, and City of Villains will (for the most part) stay the same.

[/ QUOTE ]

well not sure of that. IMO lotof villains will go "hero side" (more quick tf, more people, better market)

i fear it will "hurt" CoV

[/ QUOTE ]

True. Granted it MAY change the populations of the respected "sides", I meant that the game mechanics and abilities allowed in the individual areas will stay the same (generally). There may been new zones, ATs, powers, etc., but Atlas Park will still be the same Atlas Park we currently know. This in no way spells DOOM for CoH or CoV, ASIDE from some players playing on the "other side".

[/ QUOTE ]

Not so sure it will be as devastating to CoV as you may think.

I've never played CoH, and everytime I mention trying it in my VG Chat, a vast majority of the VG Members respond; "Been there, done that, got the T-Shirt."

There are alot of Villains players who chose to leave Heroes, because they simply had done it too many times, etc...

I doubt that most of these peeps are going to abandon CoV just because of this Expansion.

Just my opinion though...for what it's worth.

That's not a bad philosophy, but this game didn't get where it is today by the player community keeping their mouths shut about what they wanted to see happen. Rogue isn't going to be released tomorrow, and making our voices heard now about how we hope it turns out WILL make a difference.

In other news ... I will still have a problem with guys in Crab Spider Armor marching around in Atlas Park, even if they were supposed to be good guy spies from the beginning like Prince Recluse, but I'll make you a deal - if the Paragon authorities force all Soldiers of Arachnos to paint their armor bright pink so we can easily tell them apart from active Arachnos forces, I'll be able to suspend my disbelief a lot easier

Regarding the villain population plummeting - you're right, Black_Strike:

There ARE a lot of players who play Co* as a numbers game. They build a character, fight stuff, and get points.

There are ALSO a lot of players who make heroes because they want to play a game about fighting crime, and make villains because they want to play a game about committing crime.

Not everyone is going to turn every carefully crafted bad guy character into a kitten-loving sweetheart just because they can get better xp or whatever blueside.

No, I wasn't specifically talking about, or referring to, "you". I was talking in general about the "This is going to ruin CoX forever" Doomslingers. I am all for people giving ideas and alternate theories to things and mechanics. I am well aware of the great community that has helped create the game CoX has come to be and I am very thankful for that.

And by "enjoy it for what it IS" I meant, enjoy the fact that it is a ton of NEW content, no matter what the content is.

In a word ..... No.

But that gives me an idea. That WOULD be cool if they created sort of a "Crossover" set of Emblems (Chest Details) and costume pieces, like an "Ex-Arachnos Symbol" or something.

Seems like a bit of a cop out as far as side switching goes.
So we can go there and be "bad" but we come back to our universe and are still "good" if we're a hero?

[/ QUOTE ]

That's what I'm afraid of, that the side-switching will take place in a limited area. Still no way for a Villain to go and hang out in the *real* Paragon City, the place where all the people playing heroes are.

[/ QUOTE ]

Have you been reading the same press release the rest of us have?

[/ QUOTE ]

Yes, but (1).

[ QUOTE ]
did you read the short interview at MMORPG.COM with Posi?

[/ QUOTE ]

Err, no.

(1) When detailed information about the Invention system started to become available, some redname said something like (2) "Components drops from mobs, recipes drops from mobs and completed missions/tfs/arcs/trials, recipes can be memorized."
I could not in my wildest imagination interpret that as the "a recipe is one use only, but if you make enough of a certain type you will memorize it." As implemented 'recipes' are a just a special type of ingredient.
Thus I evaluate all further communications according to model that every statement is literally true, but no statement implies anything extra.

(2) I can only find 29 of 111 total posts of mine on the EU board, so I can't find the specific quotes.

Does anyone else suspect that they will be raising the level cap for this? I hope so! I'm certain there are lots of players that want their level 50 characters to cross to the other side.

Been done to death, covered a bunch of times, no the level cap will not raise. Castle covered this a while back, there'd be no reason to do it. He basically said "never say never, but basically never" it's PROBABLY safe to say CoX will NEVER raise it's level cap.

While I agree that I am afraid they will NOT be raising the level cap with this expansion, I do however believe that there will be "something" new for level 50 toons to do and achieve.

Right, there'll be TONS for 50s to do. If you actually count all the content from 41-50 (as you can't outlevel anything once you pass 41). There's a TON of 50 content, even NOW, (not to mention what GR will likely add). This isn't even counting Flashbacking.

Come to think of it, some of the ATs and power-pools don't seem like they'd work well if you could switch 'em...

I mean, a heroic mastermind who defeats his enemies with an army of zombies? In fact, most masterminds don't make sense as heroes... "I'm a savior to the down-trodden, who sends his army of street thugs to beat up other street thugs! Gang warfare... for justice!"

Stalkers make sense in a way... Batman was a stalker, really. :P

Any 'private army' type character is nominally a 'mastermind', according to archetyping. The X-Men, theoretically, could be considered Xavier's thugs...

Now, if you gave me an MM who summoned sidekicks to throw in the path of villains, that could work.

I think the markets will be consolidated which will obviate most of these issues. If not, then the first players who cross over will have a tremendous market advantage until things even out.

So, if side switching is permanent, I see defenders being even more wussy when corrupters are available blue side. I'm thinking mainly rads and darks.

This brings one thing to mind....

PvP is about to hit the fan, literally.

Gonna be strange to see people using hero sets Vill side in Bloody Bay, Warburg, Siren's and RV.

You are out of your frakkin' mind

My rad/rad is no wussy, my rad/rad is like the John Dillinger gang: he's the 'best there is'. Having played rad/rad defenders for 100+ levels, defeating all the AVs, and soloing the Envoy of Shadows and Hopkinsl; I'll say this right now...rad/rad corruptor better at defending than a defender? BWAHAHAHAHAHA.

It's time for me to work on build #2: my solo build, I want to increase the number of AVs soloed.
