GR isn't an expanshalone, though, you need to have CoH in order to play.

Let me break this down. When GR hits, there will be three Cities: Paragon City, Rogue Isles, and Praetoria.

Paragon is Hero only, RI is Villain only, and Praetoria is accessible to everyone. While in Praetoria, you can do stuff that will affect your alignment. If a Hero does enough Bad stuff, he will lose access to Paragon City and only be able to access the Rogue Isles. The same goes for a Villain with the locations reversed, obviously.

This varies a LOT by server. Apart froma constant glut of people in Atlas and a total lack of people on Monster Island, hero and villain zones in Virtue are pretty even.
The biggest problem I see is that -both- sounds will be drained to fill Praetoria at least for a month or two, and then each will probably stabilize to have about 1/3 of the population.

It would be awesome if they scheduled the release to coincide with the openning of the Omega Team time capsule, which should happen at the end of this year, right?
Maybe that's better timing for Isseu 16 instead. I can't think of how the time capsule and Preatorians could be linked.

Exactly! I don't see how this is that hard for everyone. It is not like this Expansion is going to EAT CoH and CoV. It will be just like CoV when it came out: It will be a compliment to CoX, and the 2 games will intermingle, but they will still primarily be their own entities. For thos that need more reference as to how this will work, check out all the Guild Wars Expansions and how the games intermingle while still being separate. Those screaming doom need to think about it for a sec. They are not going to make the 2 MAIN games Coh and CoV totally invalid. They will just ADD to them.

Enough about that...

I also believe that power custimization WILL be part of this, in one way or another, not because of the small clip in the video though.

But while everyone is talking about the video and its symbolism, it blows mind mind that EVERYONE missed this one thing and no one is talking about this possible aspect of the Expansion....
In the video, the Evil Statesman / Tyrant says "My power, Like my EMPIRE, knows NO BOUNDS."

For YEARS people, and the devs, have been talking and hinting to "Taking down the War Walls". Look at the city in the video on the screen with Regular statesmen, and how they say it looks like paradise, NO big blue war walls in the back!.
Seriously, did no one pick up on this?
While Paragon and the Isles stay the same (maybe), there will be another (possibly mirror) world where there are no War Walls and the world is open (knows NO BOUNDS).

Ok enough about that. I will let the speculation begin.

Also, Yes it will be boxed, no it won't cost $50 (maybe CE at most), But yes you will have to pay for it. Since you have to have CoX first in order to use the expansion, they won't charge for it like a standalone game. I would expect the Standard to cost either $29 or $39 at most. Enough about that.

Probably still just the one subscription fee still as well.

What else.... read the whole thread so I wanna make sure I cover everything.

Oh and changing will not be permanent, as they said, there is an EVER CHANGING moral compass. You don't just "re-pick" hero or villain.

It is an expansion, folks. It is NOT a new game OR a CoX Make-over/destroyer. Oh and for those that are thinking it is I16 or some new Issue update.... NO.

To the devs: Thank you! I love you. You keep surprising me, and it gets better and better each time. I am more excited about this than I can say, or you could listen to. Don't let the Doomers get you down.

Woot! No more War Walls and Superhumans taking the train!!

Only 1 question, is this like another thing you have to buy like City of Villains was like it first came out or since it involves all players now since villains can now be seen in Paragon City will it be a thrown in thing, like, another Issue?

*Dev's, You've redeemed yourselves to me, though it would be really nice if you could get back to work on the whole PvP Issue once your done on Rouge...But just don't rush this because it better be amazing!

Which reminds me, it would be amazing if the Praetorian Zone area/thing/world could act like a giant PvP zone...Villains/Heroes gone Rouge vs. Heroes/Redeemed Villains...


oooh....that sounds amazing...


My Stalker would just LOVE to be on the hero side...though it may not work well for his character, since he is, after all, a member of the KGB's Supers Division...I could always make a new Stalker though...

Just think of all that could come from this! I've been wanting it since I realized how much fun villain powers were, but how much more I like paragon city...

Oh and also, they talk about Double Agents and Staying in the Gray Middle area, like being with the Heroes or Villains and in their Zones, while still "hailing" from the "other team".

Like whoever before was talking about the Video symbolism and what exactly it meant having Manticore and Ghost Widow in there. They don't HAVE to switch sides, they may still be one side, but switch over as a Double Agent to take down that side. Thus the whole new "Spy" AT. A spy "Spies" on the other side while being loyal to another. Just cause you are IN Paragon City, doesn't make you a hero..... Enjoy.

And the more I think about the compass system, the more I like it. I'm not totally crazy about a KOTOR-style, 1-dimensional spectrum, where you kill two kittens and give candy to three babies and end up "neutral", but it's a huge, huge improvement over what was talked about back in Issue 6 - some kind of Task Force or Trial type thing where at the end your villain would give candy to a baby and be redeemed, or your hero would kill a kitten and fall from grace. Every character has a different style, and having essentially ONE crime for your hero to commit or ONE nice thing for your villain to do (one TF for each side, right?) in order to switch would have been hideously limiting. A whole city (dimension?) full of naughty and nice things to do will let roleplayers choose how their hero will fall, or villain will be redeemed. That's very exciting to me.

QR - would also like to speak out against the idea of the "Spy AT". A spy is not embodied by a certain set of super powers -in a nutshell, a spy is someone who acts like they belong somewhere they don't. Brutes, Masterminds, Blasters, and Scrappers can all be "spies" if they go pretend to be team players for one side while secretly working for the opposition.

The idea of a Spy AT with "double cross" powers implies that there will be specific, betrayal-oriented content that only Spies can do. No thanks.

Now, I have no problem with some sort of Super Agent AT, maybe something like the Arachnos Soldiers, only not limited to working for that specific group ... but to make an AT predicated on the idea of concealing their true goals implies that no other AT is capable of doing that - and that would suck.

And on the subject of Arachnos, I really hope that Soldiers and Widows aren't allowed to just walk straight over with no changes.

I understand that a case can be made even for "good" Necromancy Masterminds and whatever, but wearing the full uniform and using the standard issue weaponry of a foreign and hostile military power is a little too much to swallow. Remember, in Paragon City, Arachnos are shot on sight by the good guys.

Sure, you can just say, oh, we stole the equipment and are using it against them, but wouldn't it be much more interesting for former Arachnos soldiers to use their military training and discipline in a similar environment blueside? Maybe they could keep their "Training" powers (such as the Leadership-type buffs everyone wants them for), but receive new government equipment based on the branch of service they entered. Perhaps instead of Crab Spiders and Bane Spiders, we could have Longbow Wardens and Wyvern Sting Agents.

Just a thought.

Especially since with the moral shades of grey in Rogue, there would be no "teams". It would have to be free-for-all open PvP, like Warburg. I can already hear the PvP crowd screaming that they HAVE to do this for the expansion or the game will DIE FOR SURE THIS TIME, but somehow I don't see it.

Unless they are planning major game mechanical changes in the GR expansion, making Praetoria a PvP zone would require Diminshing Returns to be enforced within it. That combined with the relatively low populations in the current PvP zones makes me think this is unlikely (and probably undesirable).

In case people can't seem to understand this....Let me clear it up:

Villains are not going to be able to walk into Atlas Park and start wailing on Heroes. Nor will it be Vice Versa. If you are in Atlas Park or Mercy Isle, then it will be because you are supposed to be there. You will be on "that" side and will not be able to attack "that" side. City of Heroes, and City of Villains will (for the most part) stay the same. If an Arachnos Soldier is gonna walk into Atlas Park, it will be on the side of the Heroes, however that works out, and they will fight against Villain Soldiers.

Please remember, the Devs have been at this whole "Game Making" thing for a while now. It is not like they are just gonna make everything they have done in the past totally irrelevant, nor are they gonna force the player base one way or another. Hell, everything they have done has primarily been in an effort to make "everyone" happy, even if it means lacking benefit to the Hardcore players.
And they are not going to do anything that is completely illogical either, without enough story and plot lines to justify the action (like an Arachnos based hero). Give it time and wait for more info before you start throwing DOOM judgment on things you don't even have the slightest bit of official confirmation on.

Just enjoy it for what it IS.

True. Granted it MAY change the populations of the respected "sides", I meant that the game mechanics and abilities allowed in the individual areas will stay the same (generally). There may been new zones, ATs, powers, etc., but Atlas Park will still be the same Atlas Park we currently know. This in no way spells DOOM for CoH or CoV, ASIDE from some players playing on the "other side".

The trailer looks awesome, the concept is awesome (not just an instant switch, but slowly working one way or the other), and who doesn't love an alternate universe story? especially in comics!

Ya, I posted over a year and a half ago that the logical deduction for this game to expand would be for heroes to become villains and vise versa. This is the third thing I've predicted that came true, even after mostly everyone in the forums tried to rip me a new one. Well, all I can say is.. I TOLD YOU SO... >.< lol

Oh btw.. I'm only assuming like everyone else that when you zone into this new praetoria zone coming in issue 16, your morality meter will be one or the other, hero or villain with a gray area in between.

My reason for this is that the system must prohibit people from becoming heroes or villains at 51%. If they didn't, then mules will be created to shuffle influence over to infamy and vise versa. This would also include the auction house, and access to contacts and stores.

I'm guessing in order for a player to have full access to either side, they must be at 70-90% on their meter in order to access anything. Otherwise there would be a huge loophole in the way people transfer funds and drops to villain side or hero side.

With a 20% gray area on your meter, you basically cannot access or trade anything until you reach 70-90%. This would keep folks from exploiting by crossing over when ever they see fit and causing mayhem. Not that there's anything wrong with a little mayhem, but it would add an unfair advantage to players who could switch so easilty at that 50% marker on the meter.

... oh. And about the whole Arachnos in Paragon not working out: it works Perfectly for me. Prince Recluse (Freedom) was originally born a hero (backstory bio) and is just in Rogue Isles posing as a villian .... well .... becoming villain, and infiltrating Arachnos from within to seek revenge on his father. Never though it would happen but I had always planed for him to "return" to Paragon all "Ex-Arachnos-ed decked out". After some possibly interesting trials, it is looking like this could finally be a possibility. Freakin awesome AND explains my Arachnos in Atlas.
