I agree, my main is a rad/rad and while dark/dark is wickedly powerful, rad/rad is nasty in its versatility.

Rad/Rad following a tank is amazing. My main build has confront which comes in handy for picking off that pesky flunky plinking away at someone on the team.

EMP is one of the most powerful Tier-9s in the game. 'Nuff said. The cloud is fantastic following a tank, esp. with the hold proc, but if the enemy is spread out and attacking from range it's useless. It's also an end pig.

With hasten, mutation with one slot comes up really fast anyway.

Yes, always using aim with Lingering Rad is a great idea. It's almost as powerful as Tar Patch if it hits. This is a fantastic power, I'd definitely suggest 6 slotting it.

I 4 slotted devastation with the hold proc to get the +damage set bonus and 2 damage/range hammios earned from the old hamidon raids with sneaky prophet...thanks sneaky!!! :D

Neutrino Bolt is best used often and then more often as fast as possible between other attacks for it to really shine. Anyone that's ever died from a zillion neutrino bolts thrown from a bunch of pissed off robots knows what I'm talking about, heh ;)

Cosmic Burst is the best blast in the set, make it the best possible attack it can be, and a range really helps it shine.

Mutation can be skipped, but its very appreciated when its taken. Fallout is a power only usable in a bad situation, but when the situation calls for Fallout, it is a very glorious power to execute successfully. However it won't have many slots available so it's an all or nothing power, either take it and use it with a slot or two or don't waste a pick on it. If you take fallout, you HAVE to take mutation or people will always ask you, "why did you take fallout INSTEAD of mutation?" Personally, I love Fallout/Mutation. Instead of a player dying and getting rezzed, a player dying can make the enemy PAY, then get rezzed, just like thermal, and to a lesser extent, dark I guess. Also, as a side note, Fallout give you a chance to have one more mushroom cloud to fire off in the arsenal if you want to go for as many 'atomic' blast looks as you can. Also, Fallout does everything; holds, debuffs all and does extreme damage.

Also mu/electric has power sync, which is really nice. Plus the armors in mu/electric give S/L/E resistance where unfortunately the Power Mastery only gives Temp Inv. Yes, endurance must be considered as Rad is very endurance heavy with two or three toggles and LR costing a good bit of END as well. Adding at least one +End Mod into AM is a good idea, or maybe a split End Mod/Recharge.

My .02 dollars worth, I'd slot it with an Enzyme or 2. I paid billions for Enzymes to use in my RI, but now they cost 10 million-ish, I think. That way you can boost -tohit and +def at the same time, and get nice end reduction values. I do like the chance for damage and chance for damage and chance for assorted debuff procs in here, however.
Three Enzyme Exposure + Achilles' Heel Chance for Resistance Debuff + Deflated Ego Chance for Recovery Debuff + Dark Watcher's Despair Chance for Recharge Slow EDs out the -ToHit/-Def/End in RI and adds a mini LR and EF type effect. In quick mob mashes where the enemy dies fast this power doesn't get used much anyway due to the length of the casting time. But on long battles with AVs/GMs/etc...the procs really start to take their toll. I was lucky enough to get my three on sneaky prophet raids so I didn't have to pay the big bucks for them, however if you can get the HOs they allow the three procs to have three slots of effectiveness and the other three slots have effectively nine total slots of maxed out goodness.

FoN on a Rad/Rad is awesome and a lot of fun...until it crashes hehehe. Total Focus is a nice power to consider for a token melee attack. I went Electric on my main for the shield and power sync but also to get Thunderstrike.

The build above is a lot of fun, and is really fun when on a team with a tanker. I find confront to be a useful for pulling that odd minion that tries to peck at the controller/blaster, you can switch it out for choking cloud, put in a +2 Mag hold proc, and get really some good crowd control out of just one slot. I still need to fix the IOs in swift regarding the fly speed cap update however.
  4. PvP doesn't get much for updates.
The percentage of the players that PvP is small compared to everyone else playing.
However, PvP players are very vocal.
One day Jack said, "Let there be PvP."
And there was, and it was pretty much a bummer.
    I-13 tried to 'fix' PvP.
Why not ask, "If we reintroduced, from scratch, PvP, starting with the PvE game as the base, what would it look like?"
Instead of fixing TS/HD and stuff like that, rethink PvP as if Jack's PvP never existed.

If we're only going to get one PvP update every four years, make it count. Redo PvP completely, a lot of Macskull's suggestions would help too.
  5. Beast Mastery looks nifty.
    Plant is a good idea.
I'd like them floating eyeballs as minions myself muhahaha.
Colonial Space Marines - Futuristic Natural flavor.
    Spartans - Ancient Natural flavor.
Mutation Mastery - command mutants of some kind.
Vampire Mastery - I wouldn't make a Vampire MM, but I bet a bunch of folks would hehehe.
Time Mastery - pull minions out of time to do your bidding. Mix of future and historical guys. Pair it up with time manipulation, woo hoo! ahem...
Goblin Mastery - Summon goblins, orcs, and the fearsome bugbear!
Mystic Mastery - Summon mystics, mages, and a wizard.

That's it for my MM ideas.

The shield defense set lets you pick shield costume pieces during costume creation or at the tailor.
There are some shield costume pieces that can be bought and/or earned in-game.

Not sure about Super Jump, though.

Either way, the travel pool T5 powers seem like they'd be pretty dang cool. I doubt I'll ever have a build THAT tight as to be unable to snag at least one of these, and it really seems like an interesting concept, to be sure. I'm just concerned this might corrupt City Traveller, though, since I don't think I can snag a T4 or T5 travel pool power without taking two prerequisites, which City Traveller was supposed to alleviate.

    Hmm...
City Traveler ought to allow 1 pool pick to open up the Tier V Powers, that would make sense.

If you wanted to level the playing field, I shouldn't be able to get as much defense on a (now useless) /sonic controller as say compared to a /ff controller. And that means you need to index DR curves first to power sets, and secondly...

...to team size. Not a science. We suggested it about 25,000 times during i13 beta. But your team is bad at this whole "making a game for pvp" thing.

    AE Style PvP...

A player walks into AE studios and selects "Create PvP Mission Arc".
He creates a PvP map with specific rules (No TS, No HD, blah blah blah, team size, type of pvp stuff). He publishes the map and people can now 'use' the map.

A player opens his pvp queue window and browses 'AE PvP Maps' and selects the generic example above. He then enters a queue for that map. Other players could then join in on the action as well. This is where online chat channels would be handy instead of posting to a website.

Oh that's right, we can't make maps.

But we can make superbase maps.

So...Port the AE tech, base making tech, and arena tech into customized pvp where the players are in control of the map, teams, type of combat rules, etc.

The problem is time. The above paragraph would take a year or two to complete maybe longer. The base building tech is buggy/clunky as hell and is probably a reason the devs have never offered map-making in AE.

Another PvP improvement would be to set up an auction house type window for all the organizational stuff for leagues and teams and matches and stuff online in-game. War Witch mentioned looking at PvP after I-20. That's welcome news. We could use a new map. Which always gets me thinking, "I would like to make my own PvP map...".

Bringing back SG base pvp would be nice too, but again see the above paragraph about the base building tech being a monster.

Well, that's my PvP suggestions for now, I'm diggin' the devs listened to my suggestion for making fitness inherent, although I only suggested it for pvp, getting it in pve is gravy.
  19. Galactor

    Satisfaction...

I wrote up a lengthy post before AE and power customization came out, about being able to become "Level 54" so that the players in the game aren't playing 'second fiddle' to Statesman, Positron, etc. The Incarnate system is an even better idea than just becoming "Level 54".

I wrote a suggestion a long time ago about making the fitness pool inherent in all characters. Picking the fitness powers while training up isn't as 'glamorous' as picking up a new attack or buff.

The devs do listen to their players and give them what they want. With the release of Alpha Strike, the devs will have give me more than what I suggested for the game.

Kudos to the devs. Hope the rest of the playerbase enjoys the result of my suggesting it in the first place, except Psyrene.

I was lucky in that when I started on City of Heroes, I had a group of friends that were already familiar with the game. Because of this, picking up on how to play PVE was easy. My friends were able to offer advice on tough missions. They would also be there to exchange new ideas on character builds and thoughts on how to slot out those characters. And if we wanted to start something like a taskforce or a strikeforce, we just teamed up and (if needed) looked for two, maybe three, extra people before we got going. Granted, it was ultimately up to me to learn what worked best for my playing style, but it was nice to have friends there. Unfortunately, most of my friends do not PVP, so they are not able to assist me as much now that I'm interested in trying out PVP.

I'm not looking to replace my PVE experience with PVP. I'm looking to expand my overall CoH experience though. In the process, I hope to learn some things that will help my character-building skills as well as learn some new tricks and tactics that I could use in PVE. It would also be nice to pick up a few new friends and globals that I could team with too (both for PVP and PVE events).

I'm also interested in trying arena league stuff, having played around with the Arena a bit. I think I missed the latest sign-up and I hope to catch any new sign-ups for the Guardian server (being my "home base"). After I get really comfortable playing in a few tournaments, I would even be willing to assist in running them.

    Welcome to the city.
PvP is fun. The really active server for PvP is Freedom. If you want to PvP on gaurdian the zones might not have huge numbers of players.

I want to work on that toon because I love it, but if people respond with "How dare you even suggest such a thing, I'm going to kill you and your family!" I will be willing to try something else, and implore you to leave my family alone because they are decent, hard-working people who have done nothing to you....Anyways, if it is an ok idea I'd appreciate anything from general advice to a build that would work well. If it isn't, here are some other toons I have that I could work on if you think they'd be ok in PVP:

    50s
    Martial Arts/invuln scrapper
    ice/ice blaster
    Dark/rad defender
peacebringer (most likely a terrible idea I know)
    EM/EA stalker
    necro/traps MM

    non-50s
    nrg/kin corr
    pistols/rad corr
    emp/nrg def
    elec/shield scrapper
    kin/fire scrapper
    stone/elec tank
    elec/battle axe

If these are all terrible ideas for PVP, does anyone have a suggestion other than a Psi/em blaster or a /regen scrapper?
Try em all out, what the heck?

It was flamed too and filled with everything but matters related to the OP. I do hope this one can get better conversation going on the use of temp powers in PvP. It does seem to me that some of these new ones are seemingly direct counters to what is currently most powerful is zones.... loss of recovery, dealing with regens, no way to heal solo. (once insp are gone) An AoE placate I mean thats gonna be nice for ohcrap moments.

I'm not here to make people angry.
Of course you aren't, buddy. The board trolls are looking for a fight. F' em.
