City of Heroes Going Rogue - FAQ - Discussion

Not sure if this has been asked, but will the new expansion be "serverless"?
[/ QUOTE ]
Would be hard for the new expansion to be "serverless" since the game is server-based. It's not like it's a "new" game, so unless they choose to make CoH server-less (please don't), then no.

Yay! It is on the forms now. On a site it said something about getting to level 60, changing the color of our powers, going to the moon. I hope this comes when I am on summer break!

Why does everyone read that, and assume it says "level 60" it says "VIRTUAL Level 60" CoX is not raising its level cap.

I have a question in regards to SG Bases. Are supergroups going to become non-alignment or will my hero lose his base access when he becomes evil?
And if SG Bases become neutral will I be able to invite villains to my SG and build another TP room for their zones only accessable if you have a villain alignment?
Come to think of it. Praetoria will also probably have TP zones so I will need a room for that as well.
Guess I better start saving prestige up to upgrade.
[/ QUOTE ]
[Speculation] I would assume it might be possible for a Super-Leader to set the "morality" of his SG. "Heroic" "Villainous" "Neutral" and then define if it'll accept "members" of differing alignments. (I.e. a Neutral SG might be able to accept all alignments, but it would probably be the only one who could, while Heroic SGs could accept Heroic and Neutral and Villainous SGs could accept Neutral and Villainous, but only if the SL enabled the other alignments). [/speculation]

What if Going Rogue is more like that; A new world, new dimension, whatever ... where you build a new toon and gain something other than influence or infamy ... and then choose your path. What if there is no red or blue door to go through to get to the other side? What if like in CoX, there are just new zones where you can use your new Rogue toons with Heroes and Villians?
[/ QUOTE ]
Existing characters will be able to side switch. That's the whole point of the expansion. If they were just going to add a 3rd side without allowing any crossovers, then crossing over would not be the entire focus of the hype.

I'd hate to burst your bubble, but level 60 is not happening. If you read that closely you would see he said enhancements that bring us to a hypothetical level 60.
Which is probably going to make my bubbler even happier.

I agree with the exception that there will be a third physical side, Praetoria, which will be accessible to both Heroes and Villains. There will definitely be literal side-switching, however.

I don't know if anyone has mentioned it, but it looks like this game is heading toward another lawsuit.
Marvel Comics has the name Tyrant registered as a trasemark and copyright (which amzes me since CoH claims to hold the TM; which is impossible since Marvel has had Tyrant for years).
Before they even consider the release of this game update, they better strongly consider changing some things...because Marvel doesn't even care if they win a lawsuit...they'll sue just to do damage...and in this case they could possibly win.

If there was going to be an issue with Tyrant, it would've been handled a LONG time ago, Tyrant's been in the game since, I believe pre Issue 1. If there was a problem, it was probably settled as part of the previous Marvel/Cryptic lawsuit. I doubt it'll make a difference. Plus, it's a concept. DC may own the copyrights to the character "Terra" who looks like she does, has her powers, etc. but Marvel could just as easily have a totally different "Terra" because "Terra" is a generic word that means "Earth", and you can't copyright a generic word. No more than you can hold a copyright on the word "Tyrant". You can however hold the trademark on that particular VERSION of Tyrant. Marvel has theirs, CoH has theirs.

There will be SGs (good), VGs (evil), and RGs (rogue).

Adding to this, trademarks are issued for a specific industry. Marvel may have the trademark for Tyrant as a name, logo and specific character design used to promote and sell comics while NCSoft/Paragon Studios holds a trademark for the name, logo and particular character design for Tyrant used to promote and sell video games.
That won't necessarily prevent a lawsuit, since one can sue over anything, but it will make it difficult to win, unless Marvel were to get lucky and get a judge that believes in a very broad interpretation of trademark exclusivity.

DOH! I didn't even think of this til you said that: WTH happens to SGs when the Overlord switches? Is he booted out and the highest officer Overlorded? Or does the SG become a VG? If you're an SG founder / overlord with a base, does switching mean you lose everything? Or do you just boot your members out of it and end up on the other side with an empty VG..? Also, losing the 15-member pressie bonuses could leave many small-mid SGs in the negative...
For any other member, i would assume you simply lose your SG/VG membership.
Also,

No. Never. please. I left WoW due to sheer boredom and part of it was "uh... what do we do.. i know! make players grind 10 more levels! That'll shut 'em up for a while!"

It's not "slotting to 60" it's "As if you WERE a level 60, i.e. the power equivalent. The level cap will likely NEVER go up. Deal with it.

Seen this idea mentioned a hundred times... never seen what the point is supposed to be.
50 is the pinnacle of superhero existence. It's like a step below gods. If you introduce a new higher level, all you've effectively done is nerfed 50's.

It seems unlikely, to be honest.
Villains that leave the darkside will lose their place in VG's, and have to find a place in SG's... and vice versa for heroes that fall.
Rogues will end up in either VG's or SG's depending on if they are rogue heroes, or rogue villains.
That seems the most logical answer - it's hard to imagine the leader of "Super Mega Awesome Heroes of Atlas" putting out the call for everyone to come fight a bank robbery, and half of his membership pricking up their ears - "ooh, bank robbery? Let's help the robbers!"
It's likely that VG and SG alignments will remain.

There will be Praetorian Patron Pools
Heroside Patron Pools/Villainside Epics
Heroes having access to Villain Patrons and vice versa

In terms of 'likely' or 'logical'... it doesn't seem that people would be picking patron powers unless they were a villain at the right level, and it doesn't seem that you'd be able to cross from patron to ancillary pools. And vice versa.
In game terms - just because Mako taught you great power, doesn't mean you can't use that great power against him if you switch sides... for example.
Which might make a bit of a stumbling block for switching sides in the 40 to 50 range (if they use an approach like that), because it's not necessarily logical for Mako to KEEP teaching you new stuff if you switch sides... but it's not necessarily logical to assume you'd gain access to the hero powers either - so it might come down to the simple choice of losing access to extra pools, if you switch sides in that level range.
I wonder where is the good version of Lord R and ther other are. : o
If I remember the lore right ...
There's no Praetorian version of Lord Recluse. In the Praetorian Earth, Marcus Cole killed Stephen Ritcher right after they opened Pandora's Box. So any version of Lord Recluse is basically a corpse.
There could be Praetorian versions of Ghost Widow, Scirroco, Black Scorpion, and their minions, though.

The leaked survey did, not the Devs themselves. It seems reasonable, though.

A lot of what I'm reading suggests that our current Heros can become Villians and vice versa, and there's all kinds of comments about infulence vs. infamy, etc.
But what if that's not it at all.
When they introduced CoV, they created a new world. And later on they created special zones where Villians and Heroes could meet and play together but not share anything gained by the other side.
Seems to me that might be a lot more reasonable to expect than overhauling the current market/black market system. Or trying to convert influence to infamy and back. Or having Villians running the current streets of Atlas.
I'm just saying.
Or was there a post that explained/announced that the new Rogues pack would allow existing toons to cross over?
