i am reading the forums a lot lately and it is the same as always. we have a new issue and this is one that everyone can like no matter how you play. farmer, powerleveling, tfs, mission after mission, teaming, solo you name it MA has it and you can do it. but i see the same trend happeing. people cry because they cant control what other do or make them play how they like to play this game. some didnt like street hunters like i used to be so they nerfed the mob spawns on the streets because of cry babys. people complained bout certain missions because people used them for farms and powerleveling (drek and shadow hunter to of the most famous lol), nerf bat swings again. they complained said game wasnt made to be played the way farmers and plers were doing things and it interfered with what they were doing. let me say this, any good game will be made in a way so player can take it were developers never dreamed. So devs gave us MA, Mission Architect and said now it is like burger king, make it your way. and here we go again crying because your friend loves it and you dont. you like regular game play. but you cant just do your thing you have to try and mess it up for others. Devs!! balls in your court will you listen to the powerhunger wanna control the game players or those like me who like that i can make it my way, play others stuff or play regular content. dont mess this up. tell those others who dont like MA or tickets to go do something else and leave those who like MA alone. things were getting boreing till MA. Devs what will you do? just be scared of complainers who are mad because people can do it there way or show some guts.

He said that, as is painfully typical, a minority of people are trying to affect every person's game because the minority are now somehow unable to play the game how they want to. At least two doooom threads have asked the devs to eliminate XP from MA because some people farm the AE and this has ruined CoX.

Well, I'm with the OP. I love i14 and would hate to see the ninnies win the day here. No, I don't farm. I play other arcs and work on my own. Other than the fixes to clear bugs and improve arc creation, the only change I want to see is to give MA's a mission complete bonus.

Say "no" to the ninnies.

Chill.

Yes, because a perfectly legitimate use of the game is to create effortless kills that are unable to fight back against you so you can move your little blue bar without any risk whatsoever. Let's get that whole pesky "game" thing out of the mix and just play Progress Quest. (Google it.)

I have no sympathy whatsoever for HAY GUYS LETS FARM MOAR types. If you don't actually want to play a game, just get points, you could at least download Folding @Home and let your ever-increasing progress bar do something of value like cure cancer.

The OP has a point, but probably not the one he intends.

MA allows players great flexibility in the content they create and play. It is up to the devs as to what they want to allow in THEIR game.

It is not up to the players - those who want to farm, or those who don't. We play in the game, the devs own the game.

I hope that the devs make efforts to ensure that there is some risk and time for reward. But I don't want the devs ensuring that everyone stops and chats for 10 minutes between missions.

Ultimately I want to see the player base larger. I want the game to make money and keep going.

If you're like me your named Doug and are 5' 10" tall with brown hair. But I don't think the game can last if it is played just by people like me.

[/ QUOTE ]

Yeah, it would. Because everyone who currently thinks they can't tell the difference, or believe if the devs act in a way contrary to their desires it must be due to lack of understanding, won't be convinced by anything the devs say. But it will open them to the additional charge that silence equals acquiesence or agreement with whoever calls them out.

Which is why calling them out is explicitly against the forum rules, by the way. To ensure dev silence cannot be interpreted as anything other than nothing.

I don't need the devs to tell me they are aware of the difference between extended play and reward exploit any more than I need them to notify me on a regular basis they are aware of the day of the week or the color of the sky. Perhaps my willingness to skip the stupid questions allows me to get the smarter ones answered at a higher rate than average.

I doubt the devs are going to pull the plug on XP in the MA any time soon. That decision was not made trivially in the first place. But even if they did, it would not be due to their lack of understanding of the facts, but rather a disagreement over their significance.

Perfect? farm from it haha see what I did...besides since when does what other people do affect on how you play the game? Wait don't tell me your one of those others who complain because they can't find a team? or find a group who is doing what you want to do but because of MA they're not. Friends could solve that issue or maybe a decent SG. Oh maybe you solo? >_>;

We want to play the game how we want to play the game, if not then what was the point of i14? would of been better off just giving us a bunch of new mission arcs to do right?

Farming has it's ups and downs like in any game and I'm sure it's people like you who bombard the DEV's with..

That they get sick and tired of and just don't even wanna deal with it they just send you to the forums in hopes you would just shut up and complain there instead of directly to them.

Well, basically, yes. As far as the infinite farm missions people keep making go, they do effect me in at least two ways, one immediate and one potential.

The immediate factor is that of mission bloat. I'm not sure what the ratio of farm-to-story arcs is, but since (A) everyone and their dog seems to be making farms, (B) farm arcs take much, much less effort to create than story arcs, and (C) I suspect the farm-makers publish the same arc multiple times, the actual story arcs quickly get lost off the first few pages. That makes it difficult to get your arc noticed, and it makes it difficult (even more than it already is, due to poor search capability) to find a good story arc among the throng.

The potential problem is this: with the new boxed version of CoH out and its availability on Steam, there will (hopefully) be many new players joining CoH. If these new players get drawn into farms and are PLed en masse to 50, many of them will look around for a minute, shrug, and cancel their accounts. Farms bypass existing content, rather than adding additional content (which, I firmly believe, was the whole point of I14), and that's not a good way to keep customers. And if the game has more customers, the game is healthier and the devs can do more.

That's not as much of an issue for current, long-time players, but it's still an issue.

Perhaps you were not aware of the [tags] system story arc authors have come up with to eliminate the need to deal with "mission bloat". Check into it.

The other part is DOOM and I won't address that.

The development team and this community deserved better than this from NC Soft. Best wishes on your search.

[/ QUOTE ]

Well, that's exactly the point, isn't it?

It's not an official, dev-implemented system, so average new MA users searching for arcs will NOT be aware of it.

Heck, average non-forum-going CoX veterans won't be aware of it.

As a five-star-ranked story-based mission arc author who has trouble attracting players, I'm all for a formal tag system... but this informal one is a band-aid on a ruptured artery. If that.

Tags are not the cure for a bloated, overly-stuffed-with-farms MA. They are a half-effective effort by the community because we have nothing better to use until the devs throw some weight behind them.

And I mean that in the most positive sense -- these are not going to solve the problem but it is the best we can do for now, so we should do it regardless. But don't go thinking they're a magic bullet, 'cause they ain't.

If all you want in life is to zoom to 50 as fast as possible without experiencing 99% of the game, without any effort, without any risk, without any GAME involved, then you are not helping the situation.

[/ QUOTE ]

Yeah, it's not like timers were added to some missions in response to the abuse and exploitation that some players engaged in.

And it's not like XP was removed from summoned critters in response to the abuse and exploitation that some players engaged in.

And it's not like powers and powersets have been reduced in effectiveness in response to the abuse and exploitation that some players engaged in.

And it's not like the SK system and team level spread was changed in response to the abuse and exploitation that some players engaged in.

And it's not like there are dozens, if not hundreds, of other little changes throughout the entire game that were made in response to the abuse and exploitation that some players, a very, very small minority of players, were engaging in, resulting in the entire rest of the player base being hit with the same changes.

Clearly, what someone else does in this game just doesn't affect other players.

I should probably take this moment to talk about what the Mission Architect is not meant for. It is not meant for “easy leveling” or “badging” or “farming”. Those are things that we specifically wanted the Mission Architect NOT to do. This may be a disappointment to some, I know. The goal was to give creative minds an outlet to tell the stories they have in their heads. We didn’t want the system clogged with Farm missions, so actually finding someone’s story that they lovingly crafted became more a chore than it was worth.

This Mission Architect primary purpose is for telling stories. We do not want people to spend days making a great story only to find it shuffled into a list of missions with titles like "Get your Rikti Monkey badge here", "10 badges in 5 minutes", "Down on the AV Farm", etc. etc.
