  1. Okay so some of you oldtimers/longtimers might remember Kaiser's movie quote mania. If you *really* have nothing better to store in your noggin you might even remember the parody of Billy Joel's Piano Man based around Justice hami raids that I did one year as a birthday present for Flea. At any rate a new notion has been oozing around in the old grey matter lately, an ongoing thread for COX based song parodies. Based upon the general level of creative lunacy that manifests here on the Justice forums daily, I for one would like to see what kind of inspired adaptations the folks here might produce. So I'll get things started by offering up this City of take on Five for Fightings annoyingly sappy 100 years:

    50(+1)

    I'm level 15 for a moment
Caught in between syn' and posi
    And I'm grinding on
Counting the ways to get to 50
    I'm 22 for a moment
Good spot to pick up Hasten
    triple slot for recharge
Making it pretty close to perma
15 there's still time to chose
Which epic pool I'm gonna use
15, there's never a time better than this
    (to run the KR mayhem)
When you realize there's no ouro mayhems
    I'm 33 for a moment
Still sg lead, but officers have a say
    A base underway
A full roster on my mind
    I'm 45 for a moment
    market prices are high
starting to earn the cash to buy
the set pieces I want, hard not to flaunt
15 there's still time for newbs
Time to team, time to lose yourself
    within a PUG mission group
15 I'm okay with players from the EU
15, there's never a wish better than this
no more AP noobs begging me to give
    Rest xp goes by
    Suddenly you’re 49
    Another blink of an eye
    leveling is done
    Incarnate content draws nigh
    We're moving on...
    I'm 50(+1) for a moment
Lying dead in a Keyes for a moment
    And I'm just dreaming
Counting the ways to craft my Lore
    15 maybe I'll reroll as a brute
22 I run Sister Psyche too
    Every toon's a new toon
15 always pick Sands of Mu
Time for fly and afterburner too
Hey 15, there's never a wish better than this
When there's only 50 (+1) levels to get
  2. Hiya gang. I'm looking to find out how much interest there would be in doing a hunt for the signature Hero AV's in RV anytime soon. My primary badge toon still needs some of these badges, so I thought I'd make a thread and see who else is interested in picking them up or just wants to come along for the fun of it. If enough people are interested and can do it tommorrow, then I'll look to set something up for saturday, if not, then somewhere down the line. Post to the thread with relevant info on the toon you'd be bringing and dates and times you can do this. Tentatively I'll say tommorrow, November 12, 4pm EST as a suggested start time. The relevant badges we'll be going after are:

    Breakneck-Synapse
    Dead Eye-Manticore
    Destroyer-Positron
    Interrogator-Sister Psyche
    Oppressor-Statesman
    Uppercut-Back Alley Brawler
    Blackguard-All six
  3. You shut your trap you. And get back in your cage. And take a shower, you smell.

P.S. Will u run First Ward wif me?
  4. 1. I'm not being deliberately obtuse. I only quoted the paragraph about the book because I didn't feel it was necessary to quote your entire post in order to make my point. I read the first paragraph, but since the discussion in this thread is based at least in part upon people who just want to complete the tf for the badge or merits or what have you, I was pointing out that your book analogy was a poor one for this discussion as it fails when considered in that context.

    2. If you want to just make a general statement about running tf's and how you like to experience them as immersive that's fine, but that's your own little thing, for your own little thread. Just as this isn't about me (and i'd argue it is, at least to a greater degree than it's about you, since I was part of the tf in question), it's not just about you either.

    3. I played Sister Psyche for immersion too, stopping to smell the roses and all THE FIRST THREE OR FOUR TIMES I PLAYED IT, circa 2004. Having run this tf well over thirty times on close to as many toons, it's no longer immersion for me, more like chinese water torture if done in stop and smell the roses format. I do however, want the badge for each of my toons. I haven't yet done the First Ward content. Should you wish to do it with me, you may find I'm not quite the horrible speed run farmer you presume me to be.

Fast forward to today, and on most TFs, I feel lucky if I happen to get an inkling of why I'm even there. Too many players are itching to rush to the end so fast that they probably couldn't even tell you what the story behind it was even supposed to be about. That's even worse than skipping to the end of the book. It's worse than just reading the Cliff's Notes. It's like you picked up a copy of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, and when you opened it there was just a single page, and on that page there was only three words: "Snape kills Dumbledore".

    The End.

What? What is this I don't even...
Here's where your book analogy falls apart. You read a book once, perhaps twice, over time maybe thrice if it's really good. No one requires you to read the book in order to obtain something you want of value for your characters in a game. When a friend asks you to summarize the book for him, do you describe every chapter and page, or do you sum up it's overall contribution to the plot of the series as Snape kills Dumbledore? Even that doesn't work, because the analogy simply is not valid. Maybe if you only ever plan to run a tf once, or for your first time, but again, as Wrend and I and others have stated, when you've run the tf more times than you can count, Snape kills Dumbledore might be all your looking for, if it gets you the badge you need.

If you do have a reading disability, the text is online at the wiki site. See, you even get a plug.

Here's my advice to new/returning players - if a certain playstyle is crucial to you, form your own team. If you join someone else's team, then they set the tone. Yes a team leader should mention pace, but again, if it's that important to you, then it's incumbent upon you to ask. It's pretty mind-boggling to think that one person who wants to read the story in the game rather than online should have their wishes met at the expense of every other player on the team. That's not reality. Again, they need to form their own team if it's that important.
    This.

I can assure you this is not the approach we took so please don't twist Wrend's post or put words in his mouth. No one castigated these players for wanting to kill everything. On the contrary, THEY were the ones belittling us for not doing things as they expected, never mind they were in fact the newcomers and six of eight players on the team expected without discussion it would be run this way. And while this type of run might not be a "universal truth" as you say, why is it I run TF pugs all the time that get run this way and until now it was a non issue? It might not be a universal truth, but to say that it is anything but a very common way to run a tf belies common practice.

To add to the personal opinion, I find speed runs annoying and, in fact, boring. If I'm on a TF/SF, that means I'm after either 1) exp or 2) shard drops. So ghosting (unless it is an honestly boring section...which I tend to miss due to not running those TFs that have them) is pretty pointless.
    Two questions:

    1. Do you find that you run Sister Pysche often as an optimal leveling tool? If so I have several suggestions of alternatives to improve your xp/hr rate.

    2. Do you find that you get a lot of shards when running Sister Psyche? No? See question number one.

I run Sister Pysche for the required acca badge. I like that it helps me level along the way, but having leveled in excess of thirty toons past that point, I prefer to complete it in an efficient manner and move on. Sorry you find that pointless. YMMV.

One final point, as previously stated by numerous posters, what Wrend and I were doing was NOT a speed run, merely a more efficient approach than kill em all let Posi sort them out.
  9. I'm a 7 year vet who has been playing this game without pause to subscription since the week after launch. I was on the tf with Wrend that was impetus for this thread and I have a couple of thoughts and points to add.

I want to say first and foremost that this experience, and the discussion in this thread have brought to the forefront the idea that at this juncture in the game's life, communication is critical. For at least three or four years now, brand new players with narry a vet badge or ten to their name have been rather few and far between in my experience, and I am not someone who runs exclusively with other vet players. I do as many PUGS as not, and look at folks info with some regularity. FTP means there is currently a large wave of players completely new to the game playing alongside what was previously an overwhemlingly veteran playerbase. New blood is good, but as has been stated, and as I learned on this tf, communication will be key.

One point about the players who left the tf that Wrend did not bring up. They did not just quit, but did so rudely, and hurling insults, and with the obvious notion that we had wronged them by not catering to their wishes. I personally had a rather terse exchange with one of them in tells where I tried to explain several things, including that xp isn't finite in coh, that most players do not expect Sister Psyche to require the amount of time it would take if we treated everything as a kill all, and that the method we were pursuing, if not the "standard" method (which in my considerable experience, it very nearly is) was close enough that many players consider it unspoken that this is how a tf will be run if not stated otherwise.

Based on previous posts to the thread I know some posters will disagree with me, but it is my honest experience that this is the "typical" way tf's get run at this point. As always YMMV, but I'm not the only one. My attempts at education were met with insults, hostility, and the underlying attitude that WE were doing something unusual and had wronged HIM and his fiance by not making our plans clear up front. This was plainly not the case. Communication might be key, but when the star holder and six of the eight team members automatically expect something to be done in a way they all consider default, to argue that the onus was not on the minority to make their own wishes clear is pushing things a bit.

To be sure, Wrend and I will both make it a point to communicate clearly how any future tf's will be run, but the saying "When in Rome do as the Romans do" certainly applies here. When one moves to a new country with a different language, the expectation is that one take the time to learn the spoken language, rather than expect others to adapt to them, California being a possible exception to this otherwise universal norm. Likewise the onus is on new players to COH to adapt to the standards and norms here, not the other way around. As a vet player, I'm more than willing to do my part to help educate newcomers, but when my efforts are met with insults and hostility, you can imagine the effect this has on my sense of ambassadorship. For anyone wishing to claim this amounts to "vet elitism" stop hurling hollow epithets and use reason. I've personally helped and taught numerous new players, and have known Wrend to do likewise. To label either of us as such is merely to show one's ignorance of who we are as players and a willingness to make snap judgements.

    Fire/Earth?

Hi gang. 84 month vet here with tons of experience playing almost everything else and very little experience playing doms. I have a 43 fire/elec that I've decided I just don't like very much primarily because all the kb in elec assualt knocks mobs out of my hot feet. I'm thinking of doing a fire/earth because fire control, while it has plenty of damage, doesn't seem to have enough control to keep me alive very well. Earth assault seems like it would offer that. Thoughts on this combo? Also, can I run both hot feet and mud pots at the same time or are they mutually exclusive as damaging, slowing auras? I know they're very expensive but basicaly I can afford to buy anything I need to help with end, so I think it's doable with miracle, numina's, end reduction, etc.

    Fire/Stone?

Hi. Longtime player (haven't stopped playing since the week after launch) with limited dom experience here. I have a fire/elec dom I have played to 43 and decided I don't really care for, partly because the best damaging powers in elec tend to kb mobs out of my hot feet damage. I could work in aoe immob I suppose but I've heard they're mostly a bad idea for doms. I was thinking that a fire/stone might be better for what I want to do, with the knockdown and stun supplimenting the subpar mez abilities in fire. I'd like to get people's thoughts on this combo who have more experience with the AT, so have at it. Also I have a technical question about this powerset combo. Can one run hot feet and mud pots at the same time or are they mutually exclusive as slow auras?
  12. Count me in. I can bring a tank if needed, if not, I'll see what I feel like playing/meshes well with the team.

Of course, the ticket "cost" for it is negligible (what, 8 merits) that if you pick the random salvage (in the range) you should get it pretty fast... and probably have stuff you don't need that sells well. (I'm surprised Alchemical Siver is still pricy at the market at times, as much of that as I end up with.)

As for why not... I'm *reasonably* sure, since you can go 1-50 in AE (sans farm) and doing so regularly (playing "official" arcs) would give you a bunch of random salvage, they probably wanted (a) for you to be able to do so without (b) just picking and choosing the "best" salvage for market.
Ah but if people did that with any regularity, then the "best" salvage would quickly cease to be so, as supply would rise. My point is, it seems like a sensible mechanism with which to help balance the market, or at least make it possible to do so.

    Ugh, typo, my bad.

    Why no....

specific common salvage rewards with AE? You can choose specific rares or uncommons if you like, but not commons. I can't think of a good reason not to allow this, and since I have seen supply on the market for some commons simply dry up to nothing on more than one occasion, it seems like a useful option to have for those sorts of situations.

    Typo edited.
  16. I buy this salvage nearly daily in quantity for a certain IO I manufacture. Less than 48 hours ago the supply for sale was north of eight thousand, and had been for weeks, if not months. Today I logged on and there are exactly twenty five for sale. Does someone really have the ability to suck up over 8k of something in that period of time? There is no way this is regular demand, I have been following this salvage for a long time, and never seen it do anything like this.
  17. Late add with Eulogizer, spines/regen. Switched and need the badge.
  18. Count me in. I will bring whatever is needed. Also:

    So's ur Face.
  19. I'll be a last minute alt, Lucifer Morningstar 27 DS/Pain Dom MM
  20. Given that GR will soon make side switching a reality, and keeping in mind the recent buff to Fenders when soloing, I'd like to get the communities input on a new character choice. Should I make a kinetics/DP Fender, or a DP/Kinetics Corruptor? Supporting arguments for your position are appreciated. Thanks for your input in advance.
  21. Well apparently they've given us the launch date but whiffed on the length of the downtime, as it's already an hour past the stated window and servers aren't up yet.
