Day Jobs suggestions thread
Full Time Hero / Full Time Villain
Logging out in Fort Trident / The Crucible (respectively)
Possible benefits:
-Shorter time period between Hero/Villain Merit conversions / recipe purchases
-Discounted conversion rates (less inf. and/or fewer reward merits needed to create a Merit).
-Automatic Tip completion: You are essentially permanently "remembered for your deeds as a hero or villain" and can gain one alignment point every 24 hours, provided you log in. I.E. If you log in at 4:20pm on Monday, it does not matter how much you play or don't play, you won't be eligible to get another freebie until 4:20pm on Tuesday. Also, if you are still remembered for all 5 deeds come that 24 hour mark, you do not receive another alignment point until a deed expires.
For those who have no secret identity.
@Winter. Because I'm Winter. Period.
I am a blaster first, and an alt-oholic second.
For Heroes/Vigilantes: Firefighter for logging off in a potential arson target in Steel Canyon
Rogues/Villains get the "Watched Rome Burn" badge. Reward can be a mild resistance to Fire damage.
to TO THE END!
Villains are those who dedicate their lives to causing mayhem. Villians are people from the planet Villia!

How can there NOT be a journalist day job? Thanks to a certain spaceborn hero in red & blue, its just iconic.
I think we need some kind of Independently Wealthy day job that gives us a small boost to influence/infamy earned. |
Thanks to IP infringement concerns things that are too comic book "ironic" will probably never happen here. *shrugs*
Loth 50 Fire/Rad Controller [1392 Badges] [300 non-AE Souvenirs]
Ryver 50 Ele Blaster [1392 Badges]
Silandra 50 Peacebringer [1138 Badges] [No Redside Badges]

I think the fact that people would automatically equate Clark Kent and Bruce Wayne to these Day Jobs is the very reason we DON'T have them in this game. This game already struggles with not allowing too many things which would make it far too easy to make clones of big name superheroes owned by other companies. City of Heroes was even sued by Marvel some years ago over related issues such as this.

Then again.. a new zone or two would mean the possibility of another day job or two, right?!

Still hate the visit Winscott mission- make it dropable, have it give actual exp or remove it altogether. PS- Down knows who you are.

It's probably already been suggested somewhere, but how about some sort of Incarnate Day Job similar to Vanguard Recruit? I don't know where the log-off point would be, but the benefit would be that anyone who had unclocked their Alpha Slot would earn a single Incarnate Shard, or Incarnate Thread, or whatever upon completing any mission. Earning a random Incarnate Component would propably be considered too generous.
Even earning a shard or thread would be a small boon to those who prefer to run solo, but still want to follow the Iincarnate path.

Even if it's for the 'lowest' tier Incarnate thing possible.

Apparently, I play "City of Shakespeare"
*Arc #95278-Gathering the Four Winds -3 step arc; challenging - 5 Ratings/3 Stars (still working out the kinks)
*Arc #177826-Lights, Camera, Scream! - 3 step arc, camp horror; try out in 1st person POV - 35 Ratings/4 Stars
fire walker: log out while standing in a fire.
Give minor fire resistance.
Athlete seems simple and generic enough, but be careful not to label it "Pro Athlete." There are rules against players gaining unfair advantages on the field, etc. Seeing a juiced up freakshow character in a baseball uniform with the title "Pro Athlete" would turn more than a few heads. (admittedly, this is hilarious)
Sometimes I wonder why my character can't just grab a flyer from the girl outside the university advertising her sorority. Student or Grad Student or Sorority Girl would all fit. And if you're talking about the Midnighters, I think just about everyone who likes them would love to get the day job of Muggle or Squib. I always saw the Midnighters as the college that Hogwarts kids go to to get a real degree. "Defense against the dark arts" pah! I want to see a class on Psychology of Super Villains.
Simple jobs might also lend themselves to some rp opportunities as well. Groundskeeper (for logging in on a stadium ground level) or Janitor for logging in in a broom closet. And maybe if you get the Shoveler and the Public Speaker badges, you can run for office! lol...
in regards to the person requesting that the dj badges have shorter requirements, allow me to say I disagree.
21 days is not a full month of logged out time. Day Job badges aren't meant to be something that you constantly get, nor are they meant to discourage playing your character or to encourage NOT playing your character. But there are plenty of us who have tons of characters that we love, and we like the idea of our little trophy collection getting us cool stuff while they're logged out rather than just sitting there collecting dust. Day Job Badges are for those of us with alt-itis to get something out of the characters we can't play on account of the cruel cruel reality imposing time limits on how much we can physically play in a given day.
you could have it all

[day job here]: [what day job does]
[how to get it]
Just as an example.
I bolded the names of the badges that I thought of. I can see the difference clearly on my end, though I apologize for the confusion.
I'll go back and highlight them better so that my rational/organized thoughts are more clear.
Also as an addendum, I'm not going to attach effects to the suggested names for day jobs because the stuff people have suggested in this thread is ridiculous and overpowered.
If you simply must have something after a colon before you're willing to read it, then simply add this:
Day job here: Logging out at this location grants you the "Superamazing" day job power, which lasts up to a total of two hours. While this day job power is in effect, you just lost the game.

I think Athlete would be an excellent day job, and I echo the need for Student as a day job from a role-playing perspective. So maybe...
Student: gained for logging out on the grounds of a University campus but not inside a University building. Would grant a minor boost to XP earned while in effect.
Athlete: gained for logging out on the grounds of an Arena but not inside the Arena. Would grant a minor buff to Recovery while the power is active.
And of course this would lead to the new day job accolade...
Student-Athlete: gained by earning both the Student and Athlete day jobs. Grants temporary power "Special Treatment," which would be a toggle power with a total charge of 300 seconds which gives the character +10% resistance to mez and reduces the duration of a successful mez by 20%. Alternatively, the temp power could be like a Build Up, granting the mez resist and duration reduction for 60 seconds for activation, and give the power 5 to 7 charges.
Manufacturing worker: not sure where you would log out.
decreases cost to build enhancments.

I'd like to see a Fort Trident day job.

My own suggestion: Make the Smuggler's Ships in Talos and IP, and Janus's submarine in both of its instances, locations for the Smuggler/Gunrunner day job badge.

If Masterminds didn't suck, they'd be the most powerful AT in the game.
Oh! We should add a Zoo in King's Row, and give Johnny his own private menagerie that people can see, soo we can add:
Zoologist/Poacher: You work at the King's row zoo./You steal animals to add to Johnny's menagerie.
+Auto +Max HP

Grandmaster Plumber - Logging out next to Ms. Liberty and near that guy in Redside.
You could get bonus xp in DFB.
