Day Jobs suggestions thread
Greenhorn Hobo - Spend 7 days of inactivity near another Hobo NPC.
Bonus - Awards you with a 3.2% influence increase for every enemy defeat and mission complete.
Description: Welcome to the hobo family! Your beginner's scavenging skills and general loitering in a specific area of choice has made you a greehorn among hobos.
Genuine Hobo - Spend 10 days of inactivity near or at each of the following: trash bag, dumpster, hobo NPC(s), trash heap, bus stop/warf, sewer entrance, shopping cart, train station/ferry, and outside a hospital entrance.
Bonus - You gain a 7.2% increase to influence/infamy from all tasks and enemies. You alos gain a 5% increased chance for an enhancement drop per enemy.
Description: You are a master of your area, a keen eyed wanderer and an excellent scavenger of loose change and valuable items! You know many tricks to the trades of the hobo world and are recognized as a genuine hobo in the hobo family!
Sorry, I just like the idea of a hobo day job/night job
Also, for Genuine Hobo Accolade, you would need to get each of the Hobo badges for the areas you spent 10 days at each.
Sewer Rat: You have spent many days lingering around this cesspool of filth, and thus you have been awarded the Sewer Rat badge! (10 days of inactivity near a sewer entrance or in a sewer for both sides)
Dumpster Diver: A place to dump your trash, or a treasure cove for just the right hobo? You seem to think the better of the two, as you have spent many days diving for unwanted goodies. (10 days of inactivity by a dumpster for both sides)
The Hobo Dream/Stow Away: (The Hobo Dream)- For decades hobos have ridden the rails carefree, and you too sought this life, the hobo's dream. (10 days in a train station) (Stow Away)- You've dreamed of the life at sea, yet the price of the salty mistress is a bit beyond your pocket full of holes, but you've learned to "improvise" things by stowing away to live the adevnture of a hobo's life time! (10 days of inactivity near a ferry Villain side)
King/Queen of the Trash Heap: You always knew you were royalty, or at least you thought you were. Spending enough time on the top of this trash heap has given you the right to declare yourself "King/Queen of the Trash Heap".
(10 days of inactivity atop a trash heap for both sides)
The Beloved Thief: As a hobo, It's against the rules to steal wanted belongings, but you've learned everyone loves you for takin' their trash, and heck, you just enjoy a bag of trash from time to time. (10 days of inactivity near trash bags for both sides)
Just a Regular Hobo: Ah, the shopping cart, the unofficial symbol of hobos everywhere, and I suppose you as well. Spending that much time near a shopping cart has made you a regular in the hobo community and has awarded you the title of "Just a Regular Hobo". (10 days of inactivity near a shopping car both sides)
Hobo Van Winkle/A Dock by the Bay: (The Public Bed) The Hobo before you used that Bus Stop as a bed, so why shouldn't you? Public areas are your home after all, and this Bus Stop is no exception, but, obviously, spending this much time sleeping in the Bus Stop has awarded you the title "Hobo van Winkle". (10 days of inactivity by a bus stop Hero side) (Dock by the Bay) As the song goes, you're just "sitting on a dock by the bay" and this much time spent skipping rocks and dipping your toes is definetly worth of the title "Dock By the Bay". (10 days of inactivity on a dock Villain side)
The Social Bum: Wow, you really enjoy the company of your fellow Hobos, otherwise you wouldn't have spent this much time singing songs by a trash can fire, eating beans at the same trash can, and sifting through tons of garbage with them! (10 days of inactivity by a group of homeless NPCs, and is only available in Warburg)
Genuine Hobo: You're well traveled, keen eyed, and a king of the road! You've seen it all from groups of other Bums, to tons of strange strange things in the sewers, to even becoming King of the Trash Heap! For all of this the entire Hobo community sees you as a "Genuine Hobo"!
I know it sounds completely difficult, but it was just my suggestion
Although i really do want my Hobbs' character to be a hobo when he's logged off

Also, it's friggin' hard to come up with appropriate bonuses for the day jobs.

Why do you think I didn't?
[/ QUOTE ]
I didn't include a Dockworker day job because I had no idea what bonus to give it. Smashing resistance due to dropping crates on toes?

I'd like a lawyer at some point. But I'm not sure there are any Courthouses or Law Offices.

What about somewhere near the Zig in Brickstown?
Are any of those buildings a Courthouse or Law Office?
Gargoyle - for parking yourself on the top of most tall buildings.
I'm not sure who would use that though... >.>

My advice is, not to bother. A Player's idea of a new bonus isn't going to balance out in the end most of the time anyway. Names for jobs, badges, and locations however are great.

Also, many people want these different day jobs chiefly for RP reasons. Hence, several different jobs can share the same bonus(es).
E.g., The various military jobs could all give the experience bonus awarded to Law Enforcers. There would therefore be many RP options open to someone looking for that particular benefit.

For +10% inf when exemplared?
It'd sort of fit considering the "temporal scaling" that place can do. Being a mender should reward... well... mending.

How about Telemarketer. Log off near any payphone in Paragon City or the Rogue Isles and the bonus would be the ability to have access to all contacts cell numbers.

Here's one: Cartographer - for logging off in a hazard zone.
Some possible benefits:
1- Hazard zones have opaque fogs of war instead of the transparent ones you see in city zones. The Cartographer has access to rare maps and so gets transparent fogs of war even in hazard zones. Could/should this extend to instanced mission maps?
2- If that's not feasible or desirable, how about a greater field of vision on maps? This allows quicker mapping of any area, including indoor mission maps.
I'll just point out to any dev that reads this thread that the benefits of a day job don't have to be combat related. Special emotes, costume parts, gladiators, and non-combat pets are potential rewards that would make it worthwhile to pursue a day job.

General thought is there any way to know for sure what badge you are attaining prior to getting it?
What do people think of the idea of a message in the logout window that states what badge you will get for logging out in this area?

You know how you stand next to a police drone and you get one or more power icons in your "current effects" list, that go away when you leave the vicinity of the police drone?
According to the Dev Diary, you'll see something like that. You'll get a power icon in your "powers affecting you" list and the "tool tips" for that icon will explain about the day job associated with that place.
This is pretty interesting because what's really happening is that you're having a power applied to you, and then the game engine is recording that power when you logout, recording it again when you login, and taking action based on the differences in the timestamp.
The game engine could potentially react similarly to ANY power that happens to be in effect on your character when you login or logout.
It's interesting new technology. I'm not sure what else it could be used for, but I bet that some imaginative people could come up with some intriguing ways to utilize such a capability.
Just as a for instance, imagine that you not only log out in the Police station, but you have your Pax edition PPD Hard Suit power active. The game could detect that and give you a different outcome than someone who logged out without any special police related power active.
No, this is not suggestion that someone do that. The last thing we need is more complaining about rare special effects. It's just an illustration of how the technology could be used beyond the basic idea of day jobs.

FYI Meteorologist i THINK is already a badge, but the idea and location is one of the best ones ive seen yet, nice going!
I really want them to use this to persuade the newer players to really explore all those places no one goes, instead of...you know, jumping off a building and yelling "OMG WHERE IS MY HEALTH!" lol
