Meteorologist/Vulcanologist/Seismologist (Any could work) - Top of the volcano in Striga Isle
[/ QUOTE ]
FYI Meteorologist i THINK is already a badge, but the idea and location is one of the best ones ive seen yet, nice going!
I really want them to use this to persuade the newer players to really explore all those places no one goes, instead of...you know, jumping off a building and yelling "OMG WHERE IS MY HEALTH!" lol
[/ QUOTE ]
Ahh, you're right, Meteorologist and Vulcanologist are both already badges. Meteorologist is an accomplishment badge and Vulcanologist is an exploration badge that you get *gasp* on top of the Volcano in Striga. Well... Seismologist still works.
[/ QUOTE ]
And Meteorologist means you predict the weather, nothing to do with volcanoes.
...Weatherman has to be a job.

Already an achievement badge. Outcast bosses...
COMIC BOOK COLLECTOR:
I see there's already a gaming store, I was thinking you could have a comics store that players could enter. You would see posters on the walls of CoH comics art (like you can see in bases with the 24-month vet reward), and portraits of signature heroes and villains.
A really nice touch would be to have multiple badges, with the badges being little mini versions of comic covers or signature hero/villain portraits. I'd love to be able to look at these while I'm traveling across Nerva, or waiting for teammates, and have time to kill.
I saw this kind of feature in those X-Men console games where you unlock comic covers by exploring. My favorite part of comics tends to be covers anyway, so to have my own in-game portable collection of cover art would be great.
This could be expanded on to include other gamer collectables like cards or miniatures. I saw a card collecting minigame on that Neopets website that I thought would fit perfectly with a CoH theme as a part of badge collecting. You don't play with the cards, just collect and admire them the same way you do badges.

Ghost Hunter - Any place with ghosts/undead

Both of these are already badges, so i doubt they will be added, however another name would be great.
My ideas:
Fireman (Firewoman) or maybe even Smoke Eater/ Firebug - Top of Fire Buildings on Steel Canyon, or the buildings on fire on Mercy Island. Grants resistance to fire. Adds costume part FIrefighter's Helmet. (can't help it, I've been posting this on Jay's for a while, might as well try it here.)
Islander - log out on one of the random islands in Talos/Nerva, grant's costume part Grass Skirt and Leis for BOTH GENDERS, and allows for the Hula emote.
I liked the Idea for Miner being around underground areas or maybe just near cave entrances.
Edit: added my ideas to the post.
Freedom Horde! Join the Ranks!
Now THIS is the kinda thread I could get into! Although there are some things I'm wondering about the logic behind the badges.. are they going to try to keep the number of job badges to a minimum so collecting all of them doesn't get absurd? (Not to imply I think very much of this argument but people keep making it...)
I also suspect they might want to avoid having 2 badges with the same rewards.. I'm kind of hoping they don't. But I could see why they might.
If these things prove popular enough, I'm hoping they introduce 'tiers' for them.. maybe less powerful badges with shorter times to get? *Shrugs*
Finally, would they consider doing badges for specific archetypes or power sets? I'd see this one as a long shot, but it's worth asking about...
Hey Svanberg! I agree that the badges for the starting contacts should remain separate.. so you could allow accolades for them based on DO's! (Example, getting the mutation and science badge would get you the "Genetic Alternation specialist" accolade.. Not quite sure what it would be good for.. more GA DO drops... or they could sell for a bit more at stores that carry them?)
Lemme see.. I tried to think of at least 10 ideas I haven't seen here.. although there's so many ideas posted already... Some of them are a bit close to real badges or other ideas.. for the most part, I justify that with the hope that badges could be tuned down to a small area or patch of areas if required...
Here's a dozen or so ideas to chew on...
JOB: Fiddler (Both)
WHERE: Log out rooftop

That would be full of win, except you would have to have a 24hr recharge on the permanent power
Fast Food Worker-Outside any food establishment-Influence Bonus
Pilot-In the skies when logged out-flight speed bonus
Miner-In cracks or crevasses on maps-Defense Bonus or a Rock ability much like the Halloween events.

Ya know, people, this is the Day Jobs thread, not the Things My Hero Does In His Or Her Or Its Spare Time thread.
A job is something you get paid for. 'Cos even heroes need to eat sometimes.
Just saying.
Heroes don't need to get paid per say.
They probably get all their meals comped.
Besides Superman burnt the turkey, remember.
Superman did what?
I'm almost positive that's code for something inevitably disturbing.
...
O_O
Superman actually burnt the turkey, during the dinner party with Louis Lane, his alter-ego Clark Kent, and Lacy Warfield the bosses daughter. (if memory serves)
I think it was Superman IV
don't hurt me too bad if I got it wrong.
Hi again!
Alright.. I posted a dozen or so job ideas.. I think I'll post a few more (3).. along with some (9) accolade suggestions! After all... we've had some pretty decent ideas here.. I'm going to try to focus mainly on the original ideas here- er.. the ones that actually feel like jobs to me.
By people, Eldan means Rock_Crag, right? :P
JOB: Party Coordinator
WHERE: Southmost Isle of Peregrine Island
[u]BONUS[u]: : Access to DJ Booth emote. Badge would unlock the emote at all times instead of just for active times after log ins..
Note: I've seen the island often used to host parties in the distant past. The DJ Booth emote idea is inspired by the parties of Testarossa, a virtue friend of mine who uses said item on her island in Second Life.. Said parties were hosted two to three years ago, mind you..
JOB: NCBay salesperson
[u]For: [u] Heroes
WHERE: Next to any computer furniture bit
[u]BONUS[u]: : Ability to convert any 5 medium or large inspirations into a random tech salvage drop.. almost always common with a 10% chance to fail. This ability 'burns out' at twice the rate of a common ability, and may also take longer to obtain. (maybe there should be a decent mix of uncommon and semi rare in the results, given the chance to fail? Or remove it totally..)
JOB: warez swapper

---- ACCOLADE IDEAS ----
Take this job: Artist (Credit: Raithnor_Mal)
And combine it with this one: Carnival Worker (Credit: Raithnor_Mal)
To get this accolade: Caricature Artist
RESULT: Access to "sketching" emote, which has your character standing in front of another character 'sketching' them... Also +.25% resistance to .. I dunno.. psychic and toxic damage :P (The only downside is it kinda requires badges from different sides..)
Take this job: Military Soldier (Credit: ransim)
And combine it with this one: n00b (Credit: joshdex)
To get this accolade: Private
RESULT: Pistol. Gives you access to 'refill clip' power.. 90 minute "hard" recharge (meaning, it can't be reduced by other powers). This power grants you six quick recharge lower damage 'pistol shot' charges.. a ranged power, obviously, with medium accuracy. Heroside, due to ransim's badge.
Take this job: short-order cook (Credit: SlickRiptide)
And combine it with this one: Longbow Operative (Credit: SuperTurnip )
To get this accolade: Longbow Cook
RESULT: Justice Soup! Named for a random Mick Foley comment, this toggle reduces your drops by 25%.. but those drops will include semi rare "cooking" inspirations set #1 which may be traded or sold.. there'd be six or so, each of which combines 70% of two inspirations.. IE Justice Spice gives you 3/4ths the effect of both a red and orange inspiration.. "smelling salts" gives you 75% of a small awaken effect, combined with 75% of a small blue.
Take this job: Islander (Credit: Capt_Power)
And combine it with this one: Go go dancer (Credit: Memphis_Bill, expanding on Azrial's ideas)
To get this accolade: Hula Dancer
RESULT: Turns Power's Hula Emote into a 'click' power which enhances ranged defense.. Ranges from a very short to long duration depending on how long you use the emote. Sixty seconds caps you out.. (Both badges are listed on both sides..)
Take this job: Rocket Scientist (Credit: TheMightyObs)
And combine it with this one: Professor (Credit: NCSoft)
To get this accolade: Science Teacher
RESULT: Chemical spill.. You take a beacon and simply dump it at your feet.. it acts like a slightly weaker caltrops, with the same recharge but less 'range' on the spill. (villainside only since Rocket Scientist is..)
Take this job: Conspiracy Theorist (Credit: NecessaryEvil)
And combine it with this one: Arachnos agent (Credit: NCSoft)
To get this accolade: Double Agent
RESULT: 50% recharge to any attacks *which require one of these two badges* (you know.. in case they don't use one of the other two double agent badges already proposed in this thread. (Both powers listed are villainside flavors.)
Take this job: Conspiracy Theorist (Credit: NecessaryEvil)
And combine it with this one: Crey employee (Credit: NCSoft)
To get this accolade: Triple Agent
RESULT: +33% recharge and range to attack powers *which require one of these two badges* (Both powers listed are, again, villainside flavors.)
Take this job: Medivac (Credit: Aett_Thorn)
And combine it with this one: Pilot (Credit: Captin_Potato)
To get this accolade: Hospital Pilot
RESULT: A small interruptible ally heal which grants the caster 7 seconds of high speed hover. Recharge: Painfully long (Villainside due to Captain's Pilot badge..)
Take this job: Basketball superstar (Credit: joshdex)
And combine it with this one: Professional Athlete (Credit: Raithnor_Mal)
To get this accolade: Olympic basketball player
RESULT: Bronze medal. A medium endurance resistance to non elemental attacks (toggle) (I believe both badges can be gotten either side..)
That's my dozen suggestions for today!
Dash/ S Gal/ Rogue Rat/ Protection
Still hate the visit Winscott mission- make it dropable, have it give actual exp or remove it altogether. PS- Down knows who you are.
J/ Wilde/ / AIL - Celebrating five years!
Here's a tough one to get:
Traitor: red and blue
As close to the crashed rikti ship as you can get. (or on it if you've if you suddenly grow a set of...)
Accolade:
A temp power that calls on a rikti Mentalist - 5 charges (like Amy's Ward)
another one
Willing Corruption: red
Lord Recluse's Statue
Accolade: Accuracy / Damage increase
Power of Responsibility: blue
I was thinking Atlas statue, or maybe also Talos statue (the prominent hero statues)
Accolade: Defense and Resistance increase
Hero - Humble Submission: (or Humble Assistant)
Near trainers
Accolade: Tactics of some sort
Villain - Fearful Subservience: (or Fearful Apprentice)
Near Arbiters
Accolade: Tactics of some sort

How about Evacuation Team Pilot, with a limited charge teleport ally power instead.
Just an idea.
Just tell me to shut up already.
[Hero - Hunter:] [Villain - Poacher]
Forested areas - anywhere
Accolade: One straight hour of double credit toward badge hunting.
(i.e. One tank Boss now counts as two toward the Tank Smasher badge.
Mentoring badges are gained twice as fast for that hour.)
Limitation would be anything that states a preset number, like debt and inf badges.
Maybe combine with a Military type badge to add a stealth bonus.
OK, this post is full of win.
Lets say your day job was 'technician'.
Lets then say, then, that your a technician and a member of an SG.
Lets say your generator goes on the fritz. You got 5 minutes to go fix it or
the power goes out in your SG. You can still fix it after it goes out, but there is (minimal) interference with the base operation itself. Of, course it would be a glowie that only someone with that job title could fix.
That would be hilarious......after all who else can they trust to maintain their base other then themselves.
[Meanwhile, somewhere on a random mission map, the tank says, "Damn, brb, gotta go fix the generator."] lmao.
Of course, you could have job specific missions related to your job.....specific contacts, etc.
[Maybe a 'boss' that you never see but that you get as soon as you get a job. Cellphone contact only]

Gargoyle - for parking yourself on the top of most tall buildings.
I'm not sure who would use that though... >.>

I have a tank now on Virtue named Talos Tiny who is fashioned after the Talos Island statue. I like putting him on corners of rooftops in The Hallows and making him crouch while I wait for the rest of the team to arrive, cuz he looks awesome in the crouch emote. So a Gargoyle Badge would really rock. =)
...
I feel I should add here that I find this "Day Jobs" idea mildly disturbing. It seems a precursor to incorporating "Secret Identities" to this game. If you look at the way this game is structured, the backstory behind it requires that everyone must register to be a superhero. You have to register. This means your identity is known to the government. There are no secret identities in Paragon City.
Being a superhero IS a full time job. Nothing would stop a person from moonlighting or occasionally inventing a temporary secret identity in order to glean information from bad guys or be more inconspicuous while working a beat, but the classic concept of a permanent secret ID like Clark Kent to Superman or Peter Parker to Spider-Man doesn't really make sense in City of Heroes. In Paragon City, a person like Peter Parker would have an ID card, and both the gov't and the public would know he was really Spider-Man. Anyone who's been reading comics the past few years knows how impossible that scenario would be.
There have been times in his early career when Batman would pretend to be a beggar, or would take up a blue collar job at the docks or in a warehouse in order to get closer to the bad guys and learn enough to later go in as Batman and bust heads. That would make sense in the context of this world, but the idea of Batman being Bruce Wayne, and not even Statesman knowing who he really is? Not likely.
When I play this game, I always write up the character bio with the presumption that my character's identity is public and his real name is common knowledge to anyone who cares to know. I get a little chuckle when I read other people's bios and they describe their character as if their identity is secret. It can't work in the context of the game.
