Day Jobs suggestions thread
[ QUOTE ]
I feel I should add here that I find this "Day Jobs" idea mildly disturbing. It seems a precursor to incorporating "Secret Identities" to this game. If you look at the way this game is structured, the backstory behind it requires that everyone must register to be a superhero. You have to register. This means your identity is known to the government. There are no secret identities in Paragon City.
[/ QUOTE ]Now where did you get THAT idea? While, yes, heroes do register, there is nothing I've seen that indicates that they are required to register with their real identity, or any identity other than their superhero name. There is evidence in a mission, villain side, that Justin Sinclair is not known to be Manticore's alter ego. The only relevant info on the website... Well, here it is:
"The city council and mayoral elections of 1936 swept a platform of pro-hero candidates that resulted in the passage of the Citizen Crime Fighting Act of 1937. This law made it legal for vigilantes to bring criminals to justice as long as they followed the same restrictions police officers use."
"In 1952 the city decided to expand upon the groundbreaking Citizen Crime Fighting Act, expanding it to include officially licensed hero organizations that could in turn deputize their members."
Furthermore, how could non-human heroes register? Humans from alternate dimensions? Alternate timelines? And while thinking about it, what exactly IS the legal status of intelligent robots, or other artificial life? Do they have the same rights as a human citizen?
There is a LOT left unsaid about the legal details of Paragon City, far too much to say authoritatively that things work one way or another.

my thoughts exactly, some heroes might be reformed criminals and therefore known to officials and the public. Others may or may not register with their real i.d. or any at all, since maybe they don't trust who they are registering with, or have a family to protect from exposure or danger. In fact, I can't imagine any hero would compromise the image of their super-identity by exposing their mundane life.
Besides, can you imagine a paparazzi shot of Castle's alter-ego scratchin his butt at Starbucks.
Criminal and villains would be posting that up in their lair, just in case he raided the place.

Then what's the point of registering? Do you honestly believe a government would ever require people register without knowing who they are? That makes no sense.
When you register for anything anywhere, you give your name and location and essentially let the entity you are registering with know how to contact you in case they ever need to contact you. Sometimes that even includes next of kin, which in the case of hazardous activities would be appropriate to this situation.
If someone commits acts of vigilanteism but is NOT registered, what is the punishment in Paragon City? Nothing? So then, why would anyone bother to register at all? Even if the gov't promises to keep this information secret, it's out there, and someone like Recluse would want that information so they could use it to find your character's innermost secrets and use them against you. All that info is out there somewhere in one place and a bad guy can get it and mess with everyone (yes I can feel at least one Mission Architect arc brewing on this).
I'm telling you there's been until now a serious blindside to all this identity stuff in-game, that something like "Day Jobs" worked into this game will illuminate once in practice. Like I said: I find this development mildly disturbing.

What about registering for an online forum? Do you give them your address?
As for registration without full identification, it's to have a chance at regulating people, getting them to restrain themselves somewhat. As for punishment...
FrostFire tried being an unregistered hero.
what do you get if you log out near the mexican resterant, that's what im going to do every time
Anything nature-based would be great. I have TONS of plant/nature-based characters.
I'm coming into this late and I know they already have the day jobs hashed out... but I'd like to see someday:
- Firefighter: Log out at Police parking lot in Steel Canyon. You gain influence for time "served" and an added bonus for responding to Steel Canyon fires. You could give the firefighters a new badge, as well as a full suit costume with masked helmet.
I have a character set aside with a suit that looks pretty close to a firefighters uniform, and even started the "Paragon Fire Dept.". I think there's others on this forum that would like to run around as a firefighter.
I logged near the burrito place the other day and when I logged back in she was coming out of the door for some reason... I never did a mission with her or anything (just trick or treating) so now I believe it is her destiny! to work at the mexican restaurant... even though she is Indian (from India not native american). We should be able to work there even if it is for s---- and giggles.
I just thought of a great one.
Miner - The Tunnels (The Hollows, where the Cavern Trial is)
Virtue - @Kabuto & @Kabutops
Main heroes:
Dark/Psy/Psy Defender
Grav/Storm/Power Controller
Ice/Storm/Ice Controller
Plant/Rad/Psi Controller
Earth/Rad/Earth Controller
Main Villains:
Ice/Cold/Sharks Corruptor
Elec/Shield Brute
Fortunata/Soul Widow
How about - a job for people who log out on the billboards?

She was prolly using their bathroom. After all how long did you leave her there?
A lot of existing badges are reasonably impossible to get without unusual play and AFK farming. I know a large group of people who leave their accounts logged into overnight to farm heal badges in the arena, and I myself have had to set up solo damage farms to get Born in Battle on my villains. Some are impossible even if you don't have certain powers.
Not only is it annoying to me, the player, but its wasteful to server resources, not to mention electricity.
My suggestion, let certain jobs earn credit for badges during, or after, you earn their relevant badge.
City Official/Demagogue - Mentor badges
Law Enforcer/Arachnos agent - Damage taken badges
Shop keeper/Smuggler - Auction transaction badges
Intern/Crey employee - Mez badges
Caregiver/Pain specialist - Heal badges
Banker/Thief - Inf badges

[/ QUOTE ]While in general, I agree, Auction transaction badges are not helped much by going afk, no more then they are helped by logging off completely.
Graphic Design - Not sure....xD

Log off by the train station bathroom for Janitor experience.
Log of mid air (jump off a tall building) for "skydiver" experience. (jumping with another person jumping) for "skydiving instructor" experience.
Log in the ocean for Marine Biologist experience.
I think it's good that the devs are the devs and I'm not a dev ;D
wish we could get "student" as a job rather than just "professor".

Seconded.
I'd like to see "Student" for the quad at the universities (outside in the central area), "Librarian" inside the library at the universities, and "Professor" anywhere else within the main building.
And please add "Pilot" for the heroes also. (Perhaps on the building helipads, or next to the Longbow helicopters) Heroes fly too, you know.
Student might have made a good name for a Day Job badge if it wasn't already a blueside History badge.
I suppose if they could come up with a good replacement name for that History badge they could always then free up Student for a new Day Job badge...
Loth 50 Fire/Rad Controller [1392 Badges] [300 non-AE Souvenirs]
Ryver 50 Ele Blaster [1392 Badges]
Silandra 50 Peacebringer [1138 Badges] [No Redside Badges]

What about college student instead?
I'd kind of like to see a carnival related job for logging out at any known "Carnies" hotspot.. the only down side is, you'd risk rapawning in a zone enemies are known to spawn in..

Still hate the visit Winscott mission- make it dropable, have it give actual exp or remove it altogether. PS- Down knows who you are.

No worse than going to Potter's Field for Mortician.
Since one of my characters does have the evil clown gimmick, I'd love to see Clown or Joined the Circus as a badge for the Carnie tent area.
34 heroes,
20 villains, Victory, Justice, Infinity, Virtue, Triumph, Exalted -- some more active than others
How about a job that gives you access to Mission Architect Developer Approved Missions. Perhaps a Waiter or a Reporter...
How about day jobs based on not where you log off, but what you're doing when you log off? For example:
Reading a newspaper-Reporter
On a cellphone-Communications Specialist
Looking through binoculars-Watchman
Panhandling-Beggar
And so on. Yeah?
