Because they offered 2 powers (pocket d pass and jet pak) with the justice armor and sinister costume pieces. And if you didn't own or play the game before this you only had to buy one game and not two. Most of us had already paid for 2 games. But had no problem paying the $9.99 for the extra goodies.
This is giving just a few extra costume pieces. No powers or anything added in game. Sorry until they add something all they are doing is EXTORTING money from the clothes addicts out there. Had their been a badge attached to this then it would have been EXTORTING money from the badge addicts out there.
Positron himself said that this was the reason he didn't add a badge to the pack.

edit: needed to add something constructive.
Hey dev's if you added a free month veteran status with this pack, I bet you'd get alot more people to buy it. Shouldn't be hard to code in, perhaps even let the ones who already purchased it have the deal too. It's like a 5 dollar discount on a month of gametime you never had to play. win/win!
Escher, did you also APPLY the code to your account? You must first buy the code, which opens it up in your NC account - THEN you must apply it to your GAME account.
Once that's done, wait a bit, because it might take a couple hours to tag in. Then:
Jackets, where the tux options are on both male and female
Skirts, Tops with Skin (?)(or just tops, can't recall), Gloves and Shoes for the ladies. Oh and ... Hats? I didn't use the veil. I can't recall if that's just a hair option or a hat-head option.
But they will be there only after you've applied the codes to the account

Ah, yes, I did apply the code. But I didn't wait two hours to tag in, more like ten minutes. I'll see if it's still not done by tonight when I get home.
Thanks Zek,

lol Yeah a bit of patience, mine went in pretty quickly but it's always worth noting that their global system kinda sucks Since this is attached to the NC side, it has to go through several layers to get to your account.

I totally agree that a badge for the Wedding Pack (Which I bought and love the options added with or with out the bugs) would have been a sting for those of us badge obsessed. What I was a bit sad about was no badge for the Special wedding mish. I know coming up with in game content for every event is a tough thing to do. Heres just a suggestion for a badge to commemorate the event. Heroes Wedding Planner or Guest or may Best Man and Maid of Honor. The Villains badge would be easy Wedding Crasher. Just a thought, one of the things I've enjoyed in close to 4 years of playing the game has been the Holiday Events and with this one having such a momentous event as a in game Hero wedding a badge for the event would have been nice.

Personally, I hope very few people buy the Wedding Pack so NCSoft gets the message that this is not a viable income stream for them.

This does not appear to be a case of "we can't justify the cost of making these items, but maybe we can make them retail items to help defray the cost." This appears to be a case of "hey, since you're making those things anyway, lets see if we can sell them rather than give them away, to gauge the interest of the player population in retail option packs."

Bingo. That is my greatest fear. They are trying to test the waters here and see if they can start nickel and dime every addition to the game.

This is what is seems like to me and it is very upsetting. I've been with this game from the beginning but nothing would cause me to leave faster.

Oh, I have my own stuff, whiny elf-boy ... but I figure I can put your stuff upon the MArket for 1INF apiece, and get some more progress on my Seller badges. Probably all it's good for ...
People buy silly products, marketing personnel gets promoted for pathetic projects(which is huge success), and then more ridiculous stuff appears for the masses.
If they donate ( )% of profit from this package to some charity, then this is decent idea. (Still the package needs a lot more work though.)
(Haven't read entire thread)
$9.99 did strike me as a little much, although I don't desire to sound like an ungrateful customer. CoH is an amazing game and I'm always shocked at the quality of the events, expansions and various other things we get "just because." So, I can deal with the $9.99. If there were something in it to beef it up a little more though, like say the CoV pre-order helmets, I wouldn't hesitate.
I just hope the wedding pack doesn't become a vet reward down the line.
Something I love about the wedding pack which I have not seen anyone mention is the 3 new non-bridal costume pieces for females, Hearts Plus, Excess Plus, and Angelic Plus. I love love love the Excess Plus with its strappiness and the Angelic Plus with its little lacey circles, so pretty! I can't resist taking all my characters to the tailor for makeovers!

The Valentine's Day Event has been my least favorite of all recurring events; I disliked it during its first year, and skipped it entirely during its second. I absolutely hate that Snaptooth mission. This year I ran the missions a few times to grab the badges/rewards that I was missing on my main hero, but that hour or two is about all I intend to dedicate to this event. The wedding related missions seem rather pointless without some kind of reward. (A terrible attitude to have, I know. The content should be its own reward. But an event related mission without rewards seems, well, unrewarding.)
I'm undecided whether I'll buy the Wedding Pack. It's overpriced for what little content it contains, and I'm not sure I have any use for the content. I have no problem with occasional packs for sale, although they should either be cheaper or contain more content. I do think they should only contain superficial items like costumes and emotes, and nothing that could affect gameplay. Having to spend RW$ for an in-game advantage, no matter how slight, should be avoided.
Of course I believe that most costumes and emotes should -- and indeed will -- remain part of free expansions, having an occasional costume pack for a fee may be beneficial. Items that go into the expansions need to appeal to the widest group possible, and little 'niche' costume themes may be overlooked. Offering them in packs for purchase gives the Devs an incentive to work on more them, and only people who actually want them would have to pay for them.

You left out the more important part of the quote, and misquoting isn't very impressive. He pointed out clearly that it can be of benefit to everyone to do this. If you don't like it, don't buy it. If you think it's a joke, then don't spend on it. He was pointing out that some will be better than others and some folks will or will not want to spend on them as they wish.

I'll offer my two cents now that the Valentine's candy is going for 50% off.
The Snaptooth and cross-faction missions: Nothing new here so nothing really to add. I did all but one of the lead-up missions with a large team late at night but we were unable to finish because the one villain we had retired for the night and no others were available. Not surprising given the time but I prefer encouraging cross-faction teaming rather than mandating it.
The test server wedding: Did not attend, sounds like it was a cute event with a few wrinkles that needed to be worked out for future live events.
The wedding pack: too little value for too much money. I doubt I'd make use of *any* of its content, so it was a no-brainer for me not to buy it. I'm not opposed to these kinds of packs but I believe they should have a little more to them for the price being asked.
The "spring fling": First, why is the spring fling taking place in winter? :P I've done the missions on both sides and have to admit, apart from the funny clues (which I wouldn't have even read had they not been pointed out on the forum) they're just bog-standard warehouse missions with nothing to show you've done them afterward. It also made no sense that the presents would be in the Rogue Isles waiting to be stolen or that Arachnos would steal them and drop them into a warehouse in Atlas Park. Maybe they were going to fence the items at the Wentworths there.
There were also two obvious typos in both missions that I noticed: heroes and villains
Overall, pretty meh but the holiday content isn't exactly intrusive so it really doesn't bother me one way or the other.

QFT!
Well, I've held off enough; here's my input on the Valentine's Event (or Spring Fling, or whatever its called now..)
The Snaptooth and cross-faction missions:
Nothing new here. Move along, move along.
I did, however, continue to get some of my alts their Heart of Darkness/Light bages and Partygoer bages. Already got all the togas I care for.
It's a repeat; no changes for us, but I'm sure it's fun for all the new members who have joined in the last year!
The Wedding Pack:
OK. I admit it. I bought it ....for my wife's account for Valentine's Day!
...and then I saw they shiny baubles that were the tuxedo coats, which I really needed for a couple toons of mine....oh...my precious...must have shiny baubles...must have .... oh what the helll; another $10 gone...
oops, er...one of my sons likes the pack, ergh. Ah well. thats a total of 3 purchases; $30. So much for the simple nice gift just for the wife! The price: NOT priceless. Should've been AT THE MOST $4.99.
The "Wedding":
OK, nice idea; cool plan for in-house characters for development. Awesome end of ceremony fight. Didn't go. Didn't even want to try to attend. It was like trying to get an invitation to Tom Cruise's wedding....
The "Wedding Gifts" Mishes":
OMG. What the...???. This sucked. I expected a badge at the least (and I am not a badge-hound!!). Below average mish; extremely poor idea to not include some sort of benefit for completing this.
Summary:
Overall, OK. It's an event. Something different to do. A new twist with a wedding, however, the 'wedding gift' mish was poor, and the cost of the wedding pack was WAY too much ($4.99 should've been the price at the most). THe wedding itself? Phhffft. I was lucky enough to not be a jerk, smashing through the usher lines ahead of courteous fellow heroes patiently waiting their turn; I knew it was going to turn into a free-for-all, and this was WAY too exclusive to do for this type of community (a lot of long time die hard vets in this game got left out; that was like leaving out Stan Lee in the FF movie Wedding; bad form).
Scale of 1 to 10 (with 10 highest), it rated a 4.
Next year, devs, let's do better on this, please.
Sorry if this has already been done to death, but I came to the party a little late and would like to toss my two inf in, just in case the devs are tracking player sentiment regarding the wedding pack.
First, yeah, I'll buy it. New costumes are good. Emotes are good.
Second, I'm not understanding Posi's comment. I'm sure badge hunters would rather not pay extra for more badges. I'm sure RPers--and to be sure, this is content aimed at RPers--would rather not pay extra for more costumes and emotes.
I'm not getting why one group's unhappiness excluded content from the pack while another's didn't. I enjoy being able to pick badge titles that match character traits--and some weddingy-related badge title has its place. If badge hunters don't want a "Wedding Crasher" badge, they don't have to buy the pack--just like RPers who don't want the ability to throw rose petals as an emote don't have to buy the pack.
Finally, although I will buy the pack, I'm going to add to the chorus saying that the price is too high. The whole game only costs $30, and $10 is more than two weeks of playing time. I'm happy to chalk the price-tag on this one up to "showing the devs a little appreciation", and I would be fine with more "buy it if you want it" type-content that can be integrated into the main game... but I can't see buying more of these without a substantially lower price, or substantially more content.
If I can make a suggestion, you might want to consider a financial model in which we can pay a buck or two per month subscription for a "costumes-of-the-month club" or something like that. Paying members get a little extra shiny--nothing that fundamentally changes the game, but a bit of snazzy for those who like that stuff. Membership revenues bring in a little extra cash. Player costs and dev effort are both spread out over time. I'd do that without hesitation, while this wedding pack is something that I'll do, but not be very happy about.
