Are you still surprised that Villain players feel like they're being neglected? Now, I'll grant you - the quality level of the Villain zones should not be disregarded.
[/ QUOTE ]
Ironically, I'll bet serious money that the lower zone count in CoV was actually a *deliberate* decision to improve player concentrations in the zones, specifically the fix the "empty zone" problem that plagued and still plagues some zones on some servers at times.
[/ QUOTE ]
No doubt. However, there are currently TOO few zones on Redside. -

I'm wondering when Villains are gonna get access to the Shadow Shard.
[/ QUOTE ]
when are heroes going to get access to the Golden Gizza?
ok, so the point is, why should anyone, red or blue side, have access to the other side?
Villains have their own exclusive zones that Heroes can't access and Heroes have their own exclusive zones that Villains can't access. I don't understand this DEMAND from one side or the other to have access to one zone from the other side.
[/ QUOTE ]
Gotta weigh in on the sid eof my fellow Redsiders here.
Speaking only of exclusive zones, Villains have:
<ul type="square">[*] (1) Mercy Island[*] (2) Port Oakes[*] (3) Cap Au Diable[*] (4) Sharkshead[*] (5) St. Martial[*] (6) Nerva Archipelago[*] (7) Grandville
Also restricting the list solely to exclusive zones, Heroes have:
<ul type="square">[*] (1) Atlas Park[*] (2) Galaxy City[*] (3) King's Row[*] (4) the Hollows[*] (5) Perez Park[*] (6) Faultline[*] (7) Skyway[*] (8) Steel Canyon[*] (9) Boomtown[*] (10) Independance Port[*] (11) Talos[*] (12) Dark Astoria[*] (13) Striga[*] (14) Croatoa[*] (15) Brickstown[*] (16) Founder's Falls[*] (17) Crey's Folly[*] (18) Eden[*] (19) Peregrine Island[*] (20) Terra Volta[*] (21) Firebase Zulu[*] (22) The Chantry[*] (23) Cascade Archipelago[*] (24) The Storm Palace[*] (25) The Hive[*] (26) The Sewers[*] (27) The Abandoned Sewer Network
And, for completeness sake, the shared zones:
<ul type="square">[*] (1) Pocket D[*] (2) Cimerora[*] (3) Oroborous (as separate instances, but functionally identical)[*] (4) Bloody Bay (PVP)[*] (5) Siren's Call (PVP)[*] (6) Warburg (PVP)[*] (7) Recluse's Victory (PVP)
Seven exclusively Villainous zones ... twenty-seven exclusively Heroic zones ... and 7 shared zones.
Are you still surprised that Villain players feel like they're being neglected? Now, I'll grant you - the quality level of the Villain zones should not be disregarded.
Nonetheless, as Stalin once said: "Quantity is a quality all it's own." I'd love to see more choices. Four more villain zones - one to parallel each of PO, CAD, and Sharks - would provide a larger number of permutations for how a villain goes from Mercy to Grandville, from level 1 to level 50. -

Cimerora. My Mastermind hit 50 there ... during an ITF. My first 50 ever, too.

LMAO co-op zones with very heroic like missions is far from a 'villian' zone. Sry to to break it to ya.
[/ QUOTE ]
You say "heroic", I say "mercenary".
My Mastermind acted purely out of self-interest - he couldn't care less which oppressive totalitarian despot was or wasn't in charge - but Romulus' rule threatened the existance of metapowers (and thus, my character himself) in the "future", whereas Imperious' rule did not. Ergo, put the crown on the head of the guy that doesn't present a threat ...? Sure, sign me up. -

Where are the NEW ZONES for HEROES?
Gosh where is the New Content for Heroes?
[/ QUOTE ]
Heroes don't really need any new zones. Like I said before on hero side, there are still zones and contacts I have never seen or spoken to in 4 years of playing this game.
Villains side, I've exsperienced everything... 5 times. Villains are the ones lacking in the content department.
[/ QUOTE ]
And oddly enough... the number of villan players is much smaller than hero players.
So the devs could spend their time creating more content for the smaller segment of the player base... or they could spend their time creating content for the larger segment of the player base... or they could spend their time creating content for both segments simultaneously...
gosh... I wonder what they'll do...??
[/ QUOTE ]
Yes because they totally didn't add any Red side only content in Issue 12, nope none at all.

SoA
Y.U.C.K.
[/ QUOTE ]
O.O Have you actually PLAYED them past 24? A half-arsed played SoA at higher levels makes a well played Kheld look like a newbie. And that's saying a lot, well played Khelds rock.
[/ QUOTE ]
Have I, who plays this game for HOURS on end without sleep.. Played an SoA past 24?
Yep, and I still think their sucky. I would rather have a good corr on my team anyday.. Or even all stalkers and me...
[/ QUOTE ]
... a team of as few as four SoA's working together can have stupdendous defense levels ... not only for themselves, but for everyone ELSE, too.
Soldiers get [u]Tactical Training: Maneuvers[u], a base 10% area (60' radius) +defense toggle. Maximally triple-slotted, that comes to 15.8% +defense.
Widows get the same power, albeit, half as effective (which is still GRRR to me, I always thought they should be the same, even during Beta). Their maximally-slotted power comes to 7.8%.
Two of each - a theoretical "average" quartet, if you will - is thus providing everyone who stays within 60' of them +47.2% defense. Sweetheart, that's soft-capped +defense. (Eahc of them should have ~15% defense themselves, too).
Or, for the "oh my GAWD" version? Eight Soldiers - the all-boys'-team version - provides the team with a ludicrous 126.4% defense!!
In either case, just by being on the team!
Our Quartet, meanwhile, is also providing +60% damage and (maximally slotted) +63.2% ToHit.
The Boys' Team doubles those, to +120% damage and +126.4% ToHit.
Again, in either case, just by being on the team!
...

I bet the power included with the Cyborg bonus pack is the transform to Freak Boss permanent temp power. Not complaining, just it would make perfect sense.

No. Absolutely not.
Wanna know why?
BECAUSE YOU ALREADY GOT A REWARD, that's why!

[ QUOTE ]
I am seriously displeased...
[ QUOTE ]
A new game system that allows players to earn tokens by completing Trials, Task Forces, Strike Forces, Raids, etc. The most challenging and time consuming tasks grant the most reward tokens, which can be redeemed throughout Hero and Villain zones for recipes, enhancements, salvage, costume pieces, badges, inspirations and other game items.
[/ QUOTE ]
Thank you for putting in reason number 1 why I quit World of Warcraft two years ago and sold my account.
[/ QUOTE ]
You have got to be kidding. What, you want the best rewards to come from the EASIEST tasks?
This will NOT be like WoW-grinding. Instead, it'll be "for X hours of running Taskforces, you should get X merits with which to purchase rewards". Wether that X hours is ONE shadow-shard TF run, or fifty Katies ... what does it matter? Equal time input, equal reward.
Yeesh. -

Probably the most fearless occupation in Paragon City, Lawn Maintinence. These guys ghost around, never seen, to keep the lawns golf green flat. Water the lawns on the sly, never seen.

[ QUOTE ]
Okay, this day job thing? Isn't that basically rewarding us for NOT playing the game?
[/ QUOTE ]
Well nobody can play 24/7 so what's the big deal? You aren't getting anything for when you can't play now so there's no way on earth this can be seen as anything but a positive. *shrugs*
[/ QUOTE ]
Also, "Day Job" rewards people for having multiple alts. I could play a different alt every day of the week ... and it'd be a month or mroe before I got back to the top of the list.
And my altoholism is a minor case, compared to many people! -

I've never been to a game related convention, but I live near seattle. Is the PAX worthwhile?
[/ QUOTE ]
If you're a serious gamer (meaning you'd happily spend 12 hours playing games with/against 1000 other gamers in the same room) and you're not claustrophobic (meaning that you don't mind sharing space with 10,000 other gamers for 16 hours) then, yeah, it's worth it, from what I hear.
[/ QUOTE ]
I want to clarify that PAX is really for anyone interested in gaming (hand helds, consoles, board games, card games, RP games), not just hardcore computer gamers. One of the coolest things at PAX is the combination of beanbag chairs and WiFi. I always see huge groups of people sitting around plinkin away on their DS games. I'll also see groups of people on beanbag chairs in certain corners with pen and paper. Then I think, woohoo, now that's old skool!I mean the PAX poster almost always has gaming dice on it!
[/ QUOTE ]
It sounds like a convention I'd have to start regularly attending, should I ever win the lottery ... LOADS of fun. -

[ QUOTE ]
The replies here speak for themselves.
It's great that there are a few generous souls who wish well on those who are lucky/wealthy/have-enough-vacation-time to pick up this gift. I don't begrudge those people, either. If I was at PAX, I'd pick up one, too.
However, yes, every time I see one of those costumes in-game, I will think ill of the company who gave it to some paying customers and kept it from this paying customer -- me. That's just the truth. CoH does a lot of things right, but this is not one of them.
You could make a bigger marketing blunder, I guess, but I sincerely hope you never do. The good news is that it's not to late to fix this one. Offer it for sale for those who can't get it for free. Make money AND good will.
And fire your Marketing department -- immediately.
[/ QUOTE ]
Except they are not keeping them from paying customers. Everyone is being given the exact same opportunity here: Go to PAX, get the chance to get the costume. The fact that, for whatever reason people like me and you cannot go does not mean that we are being screwed. It means that we simply cannot fullfill the conditions to get it, which is not the same thing as NCSoft screwing us out of it.
[/ QUOTE ]
Question #1: how much would it cost a resident of California to attend PAX on short notice?
Question #2: how much would it cost a resident of Philadelphia to attend PAX on short notice?
Question #3: how much would it cost a resident of Sydney, Australia to attend PAX on short notice?
...
I'm willing to bet that #2 is significantly more than #1, and that #3 in turn is significantly more than #2. Thus, the opportunity is not exactly the same. -
[ QUOTE ]
We're talking about a temp power that transforms you into a clone of an NPC. I suppose you could create a character concept around it, but people who say the char creator is so great, this eliminates its power just like Cloak of Darkness, Granite, or Kheldian forms do. So why do people gawk over it, again?
[/ QUOTE ]
Or ... some of us might have already created PPD characters - for example, I have "Detective Keyes", a Psi/Mental Blaster, on Virtue ... and I've had him since i12 went live; I'd be treating a PPD HArdshell "not-so-temporary" power as a sixth costume slot.
Oh, as for your two solutions? You missed one: Send someone to a convention that is somewhere OTHER than the West Coast.
I mean, come on ... webcomic artists (who survive on income from their webcomic alone) can afford to attend every convention under the sun all year long, but a global corporation can't afford to send a schlub or two cross-country once or twice a year ...? -
You know what would solve this?
DEMO PACKS ... for sale to the organisers of Meet-and-Greet events. Some CoX-appropriate decorations, etc; some "in-game special" code cards; and so on. Better, a wide range of differing packs, allowing each M&G to tailor their giveaways (and resales) to the size and budget of their group.
NC^2 could sell these at break-even point (including shipping, packing, etc, etc), or even at a slight profit ... but still keep them very affordable to the fanbase.
The M&G organiser(s) could then either just hand the stuff out ... or take a collection ... or sell various components at a rate that'd cover their total costs (Demo Pack(s), gathering place, food/drink, etc). Or a combination of two or three of those things.
AND EVERYONE, EVERYWHERE, WOULD HAVE ACCESS TO THE SAME SORT OF IN-GAME STUFF ... maybe not identical things, but the same SORT of stuff. East coast, west coast, Australia, Timbuktu ... everywhere ... everyone ... getting a fair chance. -

Nah. This sucks. Some of us on the east coast that can't squeeze in a trip to the west coast for Pax are getting shafted. I would have preferred a temp power reward that expires after N uses that something more permanent like a costume set.
While I still think PA, PAX and CoX rock, this move is the fail.
[/ QUOTE ]
I'm not beating this dead horse again. People will either agree that having an incentive for visiting NCNC is cool, or they're going to lament not being able to get ever item in the game.
[/ QUOTE ]
... and why can't the in-game item be something as innocuous as a badge?
Or, here's a thought: why does it have to be something in-game, at all?
[/ QUOTE ]
"Innocuous" as a badge huh?
If the SDCC item was a badge, the scalping prices would be much...much...MUCH higher.
[/ QUOTE ]
*shrug* "Conventioneer", handed out at any such event - and maybe M&G's too - would be less an issue to me, than [u]costumes[u] (be they costume-powers, or costume-PIECES).
Costumes are visible from a distance, just by being in others' field of view.
Badges, they have to at LEAST mouse-over you to see the badge title, or adjust their options, or even right-click and select "info", then tab over to your badge list. -
Just to clarify, too: I'm not acting out of any sense of entitlement to the actual item itself - there's plenty of stuff I will probably never have, already in the game.
However, I do feel that I should be equally entitled to a reasonable CHANCE to acquire this item. And the relative difference in costs to fly from the U.S. Northeast, compared to the cost to drive for a couple hours across one or two states, is significant enough that those chances are not equal.
<ul type="square">[*] Start showing up at non-West-Coast conventions. NYC, Washington D.C, Orlando/Tampa, Boston ... I'm sure there are suitable conventions in those cities, at least intermittently. (In this thread, we've heard of a Comic Con in Tampa, FL; I've already posted a link to Arisia, a Massachusetts-based Science-Fiction convention who will be holding their 21st this January); I'm also sure there are suitable Conventions towards the middle of the country as well.[*] Offer these in-game perks for sale, say, three months after the event they were given out at.
-

I'm not paying $15/month for non in-game items so I don't feel that it's my right or priviledge to expect to be able to attain those items for free.
I am however paying $15/month and have been for over 4 years now and if something is made available in-game, I feel like it should be made available to all someway or another.
Going to a convention on the west coast is not one of those ways. Either make this a future vet reward or be able to purchase it like the Wedding Pack.
[/ QUOTE ]
I pay my 15 bucks a month too and feel the Dev's should code me a pony while in game Signature characters follow me around and do all my fighting for me, but that doesen't mean its going to happen, nor that it's any less rediculous for me to expect it to happen either.
[/ QUOTE ]
Now you are just arguing for arguments sake and sounding like a buffoon or worse a shill for NC.
[/ QUOTE ]
No, I'm arguing because this "Ohmygod! NCSoft is giving something out that I can't get! THEY ARE EVIL NAZI'S WHO KICK PUPPIES AND HATE RAINBOWS AND HAPPINESS!" crap is getting old.
[/ QUOTE ]
Liquid, it's not just "can't get", it's a matter of "will never have a chance to get".
That's the kick-in-the-face part; it's not like NC^2 goes to a variety of conventions around the country - if there were only 3 a year? One on the West coast, one on the East coast, one in the Midwest - and I simply happen to be unable to show up to the East Coast convention that year?
Oh well. At least there WAS an East Coast appearance, and I might have been able to go.
With them all on the West Coast? They might as well be on MARS, as far as my ability to get there is concerned. -
[ QUOTE ]
In the end we wanted to create a special gift for those folks that come out to our booth and show us love.
[/ QUOTE ]
The problem is, you only ever have booths on the West Coast of hte U.S. - and apparently, all the way in Germany, too. NEver in the middle of the country, nor on the East Coast.
If you came to Boston or New York? Most folks on the East Coast would at least have a chance of attending. Not to mention, plenty of folks in eastern Canada might be able to try and get in on it.
It would cost me a couple MONTHS' income to get to the west coast for a weekend ... more, if I wanted to actually eat, or sleep indoors.
[ QUOTE ]
Hopefully it is something we can continue to do as we grow and reach out to shows and live gatherings in the future.

No, hopefully it is something you will recognise as a collossal mistake, and stop doing. Exclusive, nonpurchasable, permanent in-game items SUCK ...! -
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ]
I think it's pretty crappy that they're giving out a permanent in-game item that everyone isn't reasonably able to get.
[/ QUOTE ]
Read my lips: its a marketing hook.
[/ QUOTE ]
Read mine: it still sucks that these aren't available to more of the playerbase.
Make them available EARLY to con-goers ... then put them on sale to everyone else, a month or so later? Sure, go for it.
Making it so ONLY the hundred or so people who attend, will EVER have it? Not cool.
[ QUOTE ]
Its a great way to bridge awareness of the game in non-gaming communities [...]
[/ QUOTE ]
Bull. It's anin-game item. The people trying to get these will be those who already play the game.
