i guess this is just a personal peeve, but i wish youd stop calling game updates 'free expansions'.
every pay to play online game updates and expands there game as it progresses through patches, these are not some unique 'free expansions' we are getting, they are simply patches and updates to the game just like every other paid mmo you can subscribe to.
i guess its just semantics, but calling them 'free expansions' makes me feel like you think you are talking to idiots who dont realize every single paid mmo has the exact same thing, but they just call them patches.

I don't know of any pay-to-play MMOs that have introduced any classes for no extra charge.
I am not counting Guildwars, as it's model is pay once for the box and not to play. But Everquest doesn't give "patches" like this to their customers - not frequently, anyway. They have several boxes out. WoW is working on their second one (they plan to release a retail expansion every year most likely for the full 49.95 price) - and I have no clue what Linage and Lineage II are at.

Everything looks good, my only suggestion that I really want added is a seperate Tab for IO Procs, It would be nice to see when Build UP, -recharge and other procs go off without having to get the spam that are the combat tabs.

Please keep in mind the history of City of Heroes. Back when the first Issues came out as "free expansions" other comparable Triple A MMO's were turning out for pay boxed expansions. I guess the term has just stuck around as a hold over. I'll pass your sentiments along to the Marketing Types.

Aren't patches generally added to fix existing content? Aren't expansions additional or new content? Don't some of the other major MMOs offer their major new content as expansions that are boxed and must be paid for separately from subscription costs? If I'm mistaken, fine. If not, then calling them "free expansions" sounds quite accurate.

Thing is a paid expansion is generally 4 or 5 times the content of a free expansion simply because it will cost money.
Look at COV, which could be said is a pay expansion, -- It introduced new AT's, Powersets, zones, and tons of missions.
Yes I would pay 40 dollars for another expansion like that.

Hrm. When can we expect to see the first fully, expanded staff NC² additions to the game? Is the V-Day event going to be a Cryptic event or an NC² event? I love me some costume options, so I'd love to know if/when we might be getting some of those inbetween issue costume packs.
I mean I love the Jester and Enforcer sets, don't get me wrong, but that's all Jay, isn't it? When can we expect updates from Jay, Inc, the Jay and minions art supergroup?

Considering how happy I am with the devs right now you can be sure there's no malice when I say this.
But Everquest II has given its players the following in free updates (names won't mean anything to you unless you play the game, but listed for completeness):
Two new races: Frogloks and Arasai
Several new zones: Unrest, Darklight Wood
New starting City zone: Neriak
Just off the top of my head, there have been other zones and such added. So CoX updates aren't that out of the ordinary.
The City of Heroes Community is a special one and I will always look fondly on my times arguing, discussing and playing with you all. Thanks and thanks to the developers for a special experience.

I was under the impression that Frogloks were part of the base game, but needed to be unlocked on each server before they could be used. I'm fairly sure I remember them being in my manual at launch and thinking it was a truly retarded idea for an unlockable race, then seeing a Froglok NPC in Qeynos and knowing that it was. Arasai were added, but seeing as they're more-or-less straight copies of Fae (and that you still need to buy the Echoes of Faydwer expansion) it's a little less impressive than it sounds. I see it more as releasing what they should have finished in time for launch in the first place, much like CoH and CoV both adding 40-50 content in later patches.
Not that I care. I'm just nitpicking because it's late, I'm bored and you almost made EQ2 sound worth playing.

Whether or not we agree or disagree with how the devs handle content and balance issues, I think everyone can agree how lucky we are to have a dev team who actually does their best to keep us informed on what they plan to do.
