Why do the devs hate COV?
Why you ask? Because look at the response in this thread...
The consumer base by and large is based in CoH and because of that they DO get more attention and they laugh at the idea that its this way. People would pitch a fit if villains got something to themselves...
They'll argue that what villain side is more polished than hero side, which to a degree I agree with. That doesnt mean that everything is balanced though, but on this topic look at what has been release since CoV was released on hero side. They got STF compared to the villain LRSF, which at release people were having unending problems with. Bank defense missions as opposed to bank robbery? Bank defense is so much easier.

That says to me, starting in i13 and onward, we may see more parity of content in new issues ... maybe even a slight lean towards CoV (say, 55/45) for a while, so that both sides eventually come to a true 50/50 split between issues.
[/ QUOTE ]
I could see a slight lean, but true parity is a wet dream through and through. Here's to Issue 13!

Well, that explains it. The Devs hate CoV because CoV is playing hard to get.
Doozy of a typo, but I think it works.

CoH has a bigger population, who whine more, and whine louder than the CoV community. They hold forum population majority. CoV was made specifically to generate more econ to pump into CoH. The devs can save both time and funds simply by creating co-content that short-changes CoV but is specifically, for some reason, beneficial and useful to players of CoH. Any and all one-sided villain content is eventually transferred to CoH and given a buff. Content that was originally hero-side, will, with some reluctance, will be given to CoV. However, said content will be thouroughly re-worked, and it will be stated said content will be 'more powerful' than its hero counterpart, and it will turn out to be craptastic in comparison. Villain issues will be backburnered in favor of hero issues. There will never be any more villain-side only content, but expect more hero-side only content in the near future.
The Devs do not give a [censored] about CoV in the short run. They only care about it as long as it brings in money so they can fuel blue-side, which in turn, means they have to make a few mediocure attempts at improving the red-side content. They do so slowly, reluctantly, and poorly.
That turned into a rant. All of the above is OPINION, only SOME of it is necessarily fact.

Sorry, but I keep looking for the 166-page thread full of CoH players whining about something, and I just can't find it. Could you provide a link? Thanks.

Nice one.
I almost never play Villain-Side, but I seriously hope that the upcoming issue is almost entirely Villain focused, if only so these posts will go away.
CoV has a higher percentage of polished missions than does CoH, but it has less variety too (even if the variety portion in CoH tends to be the earlier more generic missions given by standard city contacts).
So here's hoping that there'll be another bought of wacky island hijinks available for all you red side focused folks.

I doubt that will work. It's been like this since CoV launch or shortly thereafter. I-7 gave CoV the Mayhem missions and added 40-50 level content. I-8 gave heroes the safeguard missions and revamped one zone that no one harldy ever used. So they were roughly alternating in focus.
I-9 then added the invention system as it's main feature, I-10 added a new co-op zone and high level content with the Rikti invasion as its main feature. I-11 featured Ourorobos allowing you to revisit content and new sets for the 4 melee ATs, two each side. So the last three have been more or less equal to both CoH and CoV.
And yet somehow the Devs hate CoV and don't do anything for it, only for CoH. It's not true at all, regardless of how many recurring threads we see that say so.

when they stop giving you content in every issue then you need to start worrying
Not that I want to come right out and say i think the devs hate CoV too.. but if you notice these poast keep poping up... it seems there may be some sort of reason behind this no?
And last I checked not that I looked very hard being that I knew I wouldn't find one.. there are no poast along the lines of "why do the devs hate CoH and love CoV" again i'm not saying I agree that they hate villians .. but if you've seen that poast feel free to point it out to me I could use a good laugh.
Annnnnd well for everyone who may have something to say about how you can get insp early in CoV or how the zones are better gfx wise (even thou it lags out quite a few ppl to be in these suposably amazing gfx zones) all i have to say to you is i'll gladly run through 25 zones to get to a misison and deal with my contacts never ever ever selling me insperations at all if we can get that epic AT going for villians that we were suposed to have in i 7 .. and i 8 .. and what issue are we on now? still no epic? I'm not saying the dev's hate villians.. but I can see how you would think that.
I play CoV on occassion because it's different, but if I had to choose, I prefer CoH and prefer content for CoH. I'm really curious as to what the breakdown would be if everyone were to answer a survey of that nature. Something like:
Which of the following most accurately describes your CoX playing preference:
A. I prefer CoH solely and want content developed only for that game.
B. I play CoV, but prefer CoH and want content aimed more at CoH.
C. I play both games equally and prefer content be developed equally.
D. I play CoH, but prefer CoV and want content aimed more at CoV.
E. I prefer CoV solely and want content developed only for that game.
My guess - and it is just a GUESS, folks, so hold your tomatoes - would be that A and B would get about 75% of the response. If I'm even close to being correct, that in itself explains why development leans toward CoH. The devs DON'T hate CoV, they just recognize the demographics, and - again, if I'm correct - it would not make sense to parse development resources out in some way contrary to those demographics.
Not that this point hasn't been made a gazillion times before, of course. The only way to stop these kinds of threads would be for NCSoft to actually do such a survey and release the results (or release any other research they have that supports the same result.) That'll never happen because they still don't want to alienate the 25%.
So these threads will keep popping up for the life of CoX. Such is the nature of the beast.

Yes. The same reason people keep bringing up silly, idiotic notions like "we never landed on the moon", "9/11 was an inside job", and intelligent design. Despite evidence to the contrary, they have something vested in their ill-supported point of view.
In this case, "CoV is hated by the devs". Why they need to feel this way, I don't know. Best you can do is just pat them on the head and move on.
Thought of a better answer.

Yup, pretty much. Heroes wined and complained and got their way. But you misunderstand their intent. They never specifically wanted to get content. Even with I7, we still had twice as much as villains. No, what they actually wanted was to deny villains more content. They didn't really care what they got, or if they actually got anything, just as long as no content was being added to the villain side.
See, it's a long-standing practice - hero players would sooner see no content being developed for either side than see anything developed for villain-side. You think any heroes actually liked the Rikti War Zone? Not really. They just couldn't argue against it, because it would have revealed their true agenda. There's a little-known pact between the developers and hero-side players, especially those with exceptionally high post counts, that villain-side must never ever get any new content. Since the developers actually hate villain-side and want to make all villain players suffer, it's a win-win situation.
Then again, I do foresee villains getting some insulting excuse for content somewhere down the line, preferably after they've been looking forward to it for a year or so. Then heroes will get to savour new levels of sweet, sweet rage and lashings out.
Then CoV will be shut down.

It's not that the devs hate CoV. They hate CoV players. That's why they spent all of those months of labor creating the game in the first place: because they hated some of the CoH players. The goal of CoV was to draw the players they hated out of CoH and into CoV where they would be trapped, unable to enjoy anything ever again. Now the devs can shower love upon their chosen people, the ones who stuck with CoH and were not tempted by the evil of CoV.
Also, if they catch anyone who normally plays CoV trying to play CoH, the devs nerf their accuracy until they give up and go back to CoV.

I'm glad the devs hate CoV. Keeps the population low so my playtime villain side is less interrupted by lag and requests for teaming.

Don't worry. In the coming year the devs will create zones that few people will go to, such as Not Shadow Shard.
