CoH needs more blades...
i agree with the ops..
we could put alittle friggin effort in this game and do something but better
not to mention the animation will be ripped from the exsisting powersets making it not even close to being new.
i look at it as a iron blade temp power gone wild..it wont be flashy, neat or cool..it'll be simple im sure

I can't think of any mace-users offhand, but there might be one.

...Have you even BOTHERED to read anything the Dev's have said about Dual Blades? They already said it was having new animations.
On one hand, I think Dual Blades is a neat and obviously pretty popular concept.
On the other hand, it would be nice to see some more esoteric powersets (in the Scrapper primary especially) that weren't so Sword n' Sorcerer-y.

The powerset will have completely new animations. Don't knock it 'til you try it.
Also, to the OP, calling people morons for not agreeing with your limited viewpoint isn't what one would call the best foundation for an argument. Yeah, I know, you're pissed 'cause the devs did something you didn't like. Guess what? You're not the first to complain and you certainly didn't do the world a favor by starting an entirely new thread to voice your displeasure.

Well I understand the playerbase want angle on the debate, but I do have to counter with the notion that it should also stay true to the theme of the game. Yes there are weapon weilding characters in comics, but they are in the minority. The game represents this with Braodsword/Katana/Ninja/Mace/Axe/Claws and such. If anything they might be missing a hammer, shield and maybe a staff. But another sword? I'll use the set anyways, like I try most sets anyways, but I got to admit at least for my play experience I really stay away from the weapon Sets and go for the Powered ones.

And yet whenever anyone mentions Dual Pistols as a full powerset (And not just as as three powers for the Thugs Mastermind), you never hear "What's so great about having a second gun?".
People really just don't want to look at the Frankengun anymore.

to the OP:
I'm totally with you when you say blades are not very heroic.
Yes, given the choice I'd pick something else.
I'm also not sure that given a vote for a "superhero" powerset... blades would have won.
However this was a long time coming for Stalkers. As for Brutes they've been asking for a weapon set for ages. So I can see why it got picked up.
As for heroes... honestly I can't really picture blade wielding Tankers... but Tankers have not seen a new powerset since the original release of the game. It's the same for Scrappers... and the Blades are not un-scrapper like.... Scrappers kinda of have that anti-hero flavor to them...
I'd much rather see Electric Armor and Melee make it to any hero AT (even if just one) than see Blades for heroes.
But at this point I don't care what it is... just for the chance of getting a new and interesting mechanic or combo power... they need to give us something... so Blades it is.

Actually they did put it to a vote and dual blades one, other melee choices were, Street Fighting ( a variant of martial arts), Electric Hammer, Shield Fighting(shield defense won defense polls) and something else... i forgot.
Dual blades won the poll
The devs sorta run on if the playerbase likes it, and it;s not gonna totally ruin the game or take years to develop, they impliment it. Hell most of the stuff that's been put in the game recently would have been though up sometime or another on these forums.
Ok maybe the Rikti Invasion would have been planned but prolly the Inventions system and the Vet Rewards would have been based on players making suggestions and it really catching on. Most of the costumes have come from lady Jay's thread.
yeah as for dual blades, well i think i remember a post about dual blades on the suggestion forum round the time I8 was in testing or so. the devs obviusly compiled a list together and got players to vote.
So even if it seems to be going a bit away from the comic book feel, still, it's something new and will keep us occupied for the time being until I12

Which is one of the reasons that BAB had those sticks in the pic of his cubicle. He needed them to try out different attack motions. Animators do that quite often, so they can tweak the way it looks in the game. If I recall from the behind the scenes documentaries for some films, BAB would probably have attached to the sticks and to himself (or others that were trying out the new moves) sensors/reflectors which is used to help record movements and placement of the blades and the character.

Other than Thor, we NEED more comic book hammer users.
[ QUOTE ]
Ever since dual blades was "announced" I've been racking my brain trying to think of heroes that would use a pair of knives to arrest criminals. I Haven't thought of one. Looking back on all those comic books that I collected as a kid, the only one I can remember using a blade of any kind was the Black Knight (Sorry Electra uses two Sais... they don't have blades).
The way I see it, there are more comic book heroes that use boomerangs, then those that use broad swords, katanas, battle axes, maces, and dual blades combined.
[/ QUOTE ]
Katana, from DC's Outsiders, used a Katana.
Hawkman and Hawkgirl/woman had used swords and knives of different sorts. At one time, Katar Hol (one of the versions of Hawkman) used his namesake, the katar. The Katar is a 'punching' dagger from India.
King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table used swords, maces, axes, etc. (the super heroes of their time, sure they didn't fly, but not all super heroes need to).
I believe that in the Matrix movies, several characters used swords....
The Highlander used a katana.
Acroyear of the Micronaughts had a cool energized sword.
That's just to name a few.
Btw, except for Captain Boomerang's (DC) son who became a good guy, there's no one I can think of at the top of my head who's a hero with boomerangs. Marvel also had a boomerang based villain.

"But Tarmac, the people voted for dual blades!"
So what. The people voted for Nixon (twice). The people voted to kill Socrates. The people said O.J. was innocent. In other words, the people are morons.
[/ QUOTE ]
Oooh, I see, because because Nixon got in twice, then the people of the time were morons? There were reasons that he had two terms, such as the quality of the opponent(s). Mr. Kennedy beat him out because Nixon was new to on the air interviews, and Kennedy looked more comfortable and at ease. If Nixon did a better job, and Kennedy screwed up, then Nixon would have got in then instead of later.
If the Socrates of which you speak of is the philosopher, then you can't say much about it, because it may just well be that he fell out of favour. Philosophers in ancient Greece were like the celeberties of today. They had groupies, hanger-ons, fans, and enemies. It was a bit harsher for those guys at the time, though....
As for OJ, there were those who believed his guilt too. Me, perfer to assume one's innocent until proven otherwise. The investigators and the DAs screwed up with the evidence and the trial itself.
This is just posturing on your part. Dual Blades is hardly the end all, be all of new powersets. If you don't like them, then just move on and wait for the next set to come along.

I usually love the idea of any new pwr set and cant wait to play them...with this one I am worried about the look of the blades more than wanting to play the set...if they come out looking like Red Caps and or use the Katana/BS animations I will be alittle let down!
